Don Deity: Warlords 2.08, huge random continents map, epic speed

Has Don Deity teleported himself away to a less violent universe or will we hear about the final annihilation of the remaining civilizations? (And of course of the ever increasing pile of stone statues, that now threatens to tilt Earth out of its orbit because of its excessive mass)

PS: Keep up the good work

Snaaty said he was going to be away on business for awhile. So we shall wait; like for Godot...

@ ALL:

First:

Thanks for your support everybody:goodjob:

...

Second:

Don´t worry folks, this isn´t over.

I haven´t played on, so you are still up to date. Next will be a new barblah, so we can vote for a new goal (I don´t think Alex will last very long into the next turnset) because we have to build a fleet now and spread pacifism a little oversea (and maybe take revenge on Bismarck for DOWing us). An oversea invasion on huge/warlords/deity MIGHT prove pretty interesting:lol: (I haven´t tried this before...)

Still, you have to wait a little longer (maybe 1-2 weeks), because I´ve joined the "deity open game" in succession games (IF I die earlier, I´m back here earlier, so there is still quite some hope left that I might be back any day...:D)

YEAH! Now let's get to it...

Greece will last:

...

Once Don Deity´s redcoats arrived at the Greek front, there wasn’t much left for Alex to do but to run and hide inside his cities… …the Greek countryside was controlled by the allied forces, and Argos, the besieged Geek city, also fell quickly. The Greek spirit of fighting back seemed to be broken by the sheer numbers the allies were fielding now (mainly the English…).

…

After the glorious victory near Argos, Don Deity split his army again, half of it was controlled by himself, the other half by General Supersaat. General Supersaat was ordered to march towards Gepid while Don Deity would turn towards Ephesus. Both of them didn’t expect much resistance… …and surprise, surprise… …they were right. No Geek units were seen on their way, and once arrived near the two Greek cities, their elite Cannons made short work of the defenders, then the cavalry and the redcoats rushed in and took the cities… …it really looked as if the plan would succeed this time, to eliminate the enemy completely…

…but then… ...then…

…then there were suddenly infantry units inside the Greek cities… …and faced with a completely unknown situation, General Supersnaat (who was already in the outskirts of Knossos, his next target city) did what he was best in… …he switched off his brain, closed his eyes and ordered his men to rush in… …and surprise, surprise (again), the result was a complete disaster:

12 English battalions died at the attempt to defeat a lousy 4 Greek infantry battalions inside Knossos… …only then managed the English forces to wrestle down the Greek resistance…

93.JPG

Don Deity´s palace in London:

“Hi Alex, great that you could come… …with all the roads blocked by my NUMEROUS soldiers…”

“Hello Don Deity… …you might have the superiority in numbers, but I think the fact that I´m here only means that you have found out about our little infantry project… …am I right?”

“Grumbleyesgruble”

“What?”

“I said: Yes, we have… …and we don’t like infantry…”

“Well, then I think it is time to end this war, don’t you agree with me Don Deity?”

“Grumbleyesgruble”

“What?”

“I said: Yes, I agree with you… …now it’s time to lay down arms and let the politicians take over…”

“Umh… …we are also the politicians, Don Deity…”

“Oh… …well… …then… …want to capitulate and become a vassal of England?”

“Yes…”

“Great…”

…

And again did the English fail in their mission to completely conquer one of their neighbours and gained a precious vassal instead… …although they still hadn’t really figured out the exact use of those vassals, because those they already had even refused to trade technologies with them and only proved to be a pain in the… …you know where I mean…

But at least, the English now opened up their borders, allowing a Free Market to bring wealth and technology into the country after the English population now had suffered about 1.000 years of war, a change that was making most of their citizen pretty happy…

…

Still, there was more going on, underneath the surface, because an old enemy was arrogant enough to try to bully around England… …which, by the way, was already suffering from the political consequences to be not only multicultural now, but also a multicountry society (or something like that)… …and was in the process to be renamed into the United States of France, in short USoF, by request of the vassals, off course, to show that they also were still there… …but back to the topic… …the old enemy trying to bully around the USoF (have to get used to this first, so lets practice it a little USoF USoF USoF USoF USoF) was Germany under the rule of the evil tyrant Bismarck (the ONE AND ONLY evil tyrant in this game is Don Deity… …so this alone makes Bismarck deserve to die)… oh, I lost track again… …where was I again… …ah, Bismarck tried to bully around USoF and demanded Chemistry from Don Deity.

Don Deity off course immediately executed the German messenger and had his statue sent back to Germany via one of the new ships, USoF was building lately. The cities of Knossos and Gepid would be turned into the main USoF seaports (once they would come out of revolt… …which would still take a while).

94.JPG

The first ship with the statue of the executed messenger already arrived in Germany, and only to make sure that the statue would not be stolen or damaged, a part of the USoF army was also already shipped towards Germany… …the rest would follow soon… …only to protect the precious statue off course…

Everything the USoF did was eyed closely by the HUGE German fleet off course (about 15-20 frigates and numerous gallons), but Don Deity already had a plan… …and for this plan, 1 frigate and 4 gallons would be enough

Well, we knew Alex was on the Infantry clock, so good thing you were able to grab as much of him as you did before he finished. How's the vassal situation look anyway? Brennus and Asoka should be locked in tight after The Don's gains from the war, but how tightly bound is Alex to the USoF?

The answer to enemy infantry, when you want to protect your cannons, is airships. You have got physics, right?

I'd say the much better answer to infantry is building your own infantry, preferably with "pinch" promotions and artillery as cover (well, canons will do) :D

Btw -a post of the tech situation would be nice.

Not when you haven't got infantry and artillery, it isn't.

Let's also remember that Snaaty doesn't have access to Infantry, and that this is Warlords (no airships). And the real answer to Infantry is Pinch promoted Tanks, but we're not there yet.

That would put a crimp in plans to construct airships: not being able to build them in Warlords. Infantry aren't immune to first strikes. A set of units with Drill promotions or just lots of cannon and a willingness to lose them. Having infantry and artillery is always preferred, but on Diety being behind the pack leader techwise is the usual scenario.

@ ALL:

Like already stated no airships for me (stupid warlords:cry:)...

I didn´t dare to do a uphill fight cannon/gren/cav/redcoat agains infantry, because the kill ratio has prooved to be REALLY bad (12 units for 4 infantry) and the production boni of the deity AI (especially pre BtS) is huge... ...I deemed the chances of loosing most of my army higher then having a significant success in the war against Alex from now on... ...but maybe I´ve only been a little coward:lol:

I will include a tech overview in the next update (maybe already tonight)

The German War, Part 1:

...

And so it came, that the USoF was sending ship after ship towards Germany, and the Germans were watching them closely, controlling the channel with even more ships now, and packing their cities with units. The USoF army abroad now was approaching 50 battalions, stationed in the hills separating the German and the Persian Empire or were at least on the way there.

The USoF scientists were meanwhile busy researching Physics, which should be discovered soon (3 turns), and before that they had already mastered Scientific Methods, Steam Power and Biology. Overall, the USoF were doing quite OK in research, they had about the same tech level as their rivals:

95.JPG
(The other, not shown nations had about the same tech-level, except the Zulus which were sort of… …not so advanced…)

…

Around that point, Bismarck summoned Don Deity to his palace for an audience:

“Hi Bismarck… …what do you want from me? You have your messenger already back…”

“Yes… …and with him a hell of a lot of USoF battalions running around in MY country, using MY harbours, shipping through MY channel… …Don Deity… …do you think I’m a fool? “

“Well… …if you ask me THAT direct… …do I REALLY have to answer that?”

“No you don’t… …I already know your plan… …you want to sneak troops behind my back and you plan to attack us…”

“You really think that?”

“Yes…”

“Well… …OK… …(hit’s Bismark with a woollen glove in the face)”

“What was that for???... …why did you hit me with that ridiculous red and blue child-glove into my face?”

“Isn’t that German custom? I mean… …to declare war and such?”

“What?”

“Well… …you know, I’m declaring war on you…”

“WHAT?”

“You heard me… …or do I have to hit you with the glove aga…”

“GUARDS!!!!”

ZUUMMMPPPP (Don Deity beaming out of Bismarck’s palace)

…

And so it came that the war between Germany and the USoF countries didn’t really start as a surprise and both nations were very fast to bring their troops to the front… …the first battles already started the same day Don Deity left (or better, fled from) Bismarck’s palace in Berlin... ...and the USoF army around General Supersnaat was in a super-crappy position:

96.JPG

Red circle:
The glorious USoF army containing about 50 battalions, a mix of cavalry, redcoats, cannons and grenadiers, preparing to invade into hostile German land, direction Frankfurt (indicated by the red arrow)

Green circle:
About 15 German battalions, occupying some strategically important and forested hills on the German side of the mountain range, preparing to start bombarding the USoF forces

…

In the USoF commando tent, General Supersaat and some Generals:

“Sir, the Germans have started to build up fortifications on the hills we have to path by on the way towards Frankfurt, very likely they will ambush and bombard us from there…”

“What can we do about it?”

“Not much really, they have a decent mix of grenadiers, riflemen and cavalry defending their siege weapons… …and they are additionally protected by the hills and the forests… …our losses would be giganourmous, if we would try to take those hills… …and cut off from ALL reinforcements, in the middle of hostile terrain, we better try to stay away from these hills… ...our spies report that Bismarck has about 50-60 battalions of cavalry alone and about 40 battalions more of cannons, riflemen and grenadiers for his main army available, if he decides to build ONE gigastack...”

“Still we can’t risk making a detour… …we have to reach and capture Frankfurt within 3 day (=turns), like planned… …without a city we can use as base of operations, we are bound to fail…”

“General Supersaat, I still would advise not to…”

“I know, I know… …I heard you… …still we can’t make the detour… …other any ideas?”

…silence…

…

And while the brave USoF army under General Supersnaat´s command advanced on Frankfurt, suffering from ambushes and bombardment all along the way, taking quite some losses, retreated the huge USoF navy (4 gallons and 1 frigate) into Knossos, unaware of Bismarck’s evil plans concerning the strategically very important city of Knossos (ships can reach the German/Persian continent within 1 turn from the harbour of Knossos).

...

But Don Deity, having other matters to take care of (like 3 or 4 former Greek cities that keep revolting over and over again, together with 2 Indian cities:mad:) had no time to occupy his mind with the war against the Germans right now, he was more concerned to restore order all over France:

Several big garrison forces should take care of the revolting cities, by giving the complaining citizen important advice and every support and help they needed (=shooting them…). But since Don Deity simply hadn’t enough forces to take care off all cities (and never would be able to pay for such a huge (and useless) army) he had to relay on another plan… …only the most important cities would be guarded by his soldiers, the other cities only would get connected to these cities via a railroad network (YAY… …we will have railroad soon:goodjob:) and when a revolt would break out in a certain city, then the army would move in via train and “support” the complaining citizen…

97.JPG

And this was the army designed to patrol the new Greek borderland cities, 15 battalions altogether, mainly redcoats, but also some cavalry and cannon. The soldiers for these battalions were all handpicked (and exclusively from wealthy families with political influence) and nobody ever expected them to see “real” fighting… …but like so often, history will prove this to be… …well… …sort of… …wrong…

:eek::eek::eek:

...I would have ..."pacified" France before an intercontinental war... but perhaps is a little too late for that advice :p.

Long live the USoF!:salute:

I've never done a cross-continent invasion without tanks and bombers before; this should be interesting. But, why the rush to smack Bismarck, Snaaty?

@ Premier Valle & bestbrian:

After the sudden end of the war against Alex, I was suddenly faced with the fact, that I had altogether about 60-70 units hanging around... ...so I spontaniously decided to give it a shot and try and jump on Bismark a little earlier as planned (usually I also wait ´till much later for going oversea...)

...

My idea was that worst that could happen would be loosing most of the outdated army while still being able to get a foothold on the other conti for later use (Bismark had about 80-90 mobile units, most of which beeing cavalry, at that point, my two "spy-cavalry" fround out (I had open borders with Bismark))... ...So I deemed the chances of capturing at least 2-3 cities (and maybe holding 1-2) pretty big

...

But things turned out to be quite different in the end, but you will find out soon:D

I think I'd leave Knossos. It sounds as though you jumped on Bismark right before he was planning a German backstab. I hope Bismark doesn't know how undefended France is and sends a gigantic stack at Knossos and then Alex first to break your vassalage over him and then vassalize him for Germany.
If you have any leeway or leverage with Persia, bring them in.

Supersnaat may get very lucky. It could come down to which stack takes most the quickest. Alex's infantry will slow the Germans down, but they can take the losses. And keep improving.

The English navy is too small.

The German War, Part 2: Betrayal

...

Bismarck’s palace, Germany, Berlin, Bismarck and Cyrus sitting together:

“And you really think that this will work out, Cyrus?”

“Yes, Bismarck… …trust me… …I will declare on Mali and make believe I would ship troops, but then I will send my army over to meet yours near Frankfurt… …and together we should be strong enough to throw the evil USoF invaders back into the ocean…”

“OK… …so far, I agree with you, but why do I have to send half of my army over to France to make a counterattack?”

“We need to cut the reinforcement lines of the evil USoF. They would be able sneak in reinforcements from Knossos, even when you control the seas with your superior navy. The channel between France and our continent is small enough that they can reach our shores within 1 turn of sailing…”

“Well… …yeah, but then I would simply sink them directly after landing…”

“AFTER landing their troops you mean?”

“Well… …I think I get your point…”

…

An so it came, that the biggest fleet the world had ever seen set sails towards France, 4 frigates and 7 gallons carried altogether 21 German battalions towards Knossos, mainly cavalry…

…

France, emergency meeting between Don Deity and some unknown General:

“Sir, the Germans now control the channel... …as we have already expected… …but they also have landed a quite big army near Knossos… …if the Germans manage to take and raze Knossos, our army will be stuck in Germany, cut off from any reinforcements…”

“WOW… …a truly evil plan… …I’m surprised by the quality of it… …it could even work… …how many troops do we have stationed in the Greek borderland cities, doing military patrol?”

“About 15 battalions in all the cities together...”

“And how far have we managed to build our railroad-network?”

“Not far enough… …but if we dispatch ALL workers to build an emergency line towards Knossos, we might reach the German intruders, but not the city… …and we would loose some workers off course…”

“Have it done, we can’t risk loosing Knossos to protect some workers…”
…

The German palace, Bismarck and his advisors:

“Terrible news Lord Bismarck… …our army near Knossos has been spotted and engaged by the USoF forces…”

“How could this be? Our secret service has spotted the host of their home army far away, stretched along the former Greek border?

“They were utilizing some new transporting device they called “train”… …it somehow rides on tracks and can carry heaps of soldiers…”

“How is the situation in France?”

“The USoF has taken heavy losses, but in the end our army has been defeated, 5 wounded battalions is all that is left… …only thing we can do now is to capture and torture to death 4 USoF workers (that just have finished building two sections of railroad there)… …there are 4 more workers, but they are protected by the USoF forces…”

98.JPG

“Have the workers killed and call Cyrus, we have to inform him, that our plan f…”

The door burst open, and a German messenger ran in:

“Sir, sir, we have been betrayed, Cyrus just has declared war on us… …the whole northern part of the German, mainly the countryside is already under Persian control… …and the first German city there already has fallen to the Persian army…”

“Leave me alone… ..all of you…”

There was only one thing Bismarck knew for sure… …he had been a fool, believing Cyrus lies… …Cyrus had plotted all this long ago, maybe even collaborated in the attack of the USoF forces… …he should have seen it though… …when the first USoF battalions attacked Germany from within the Persian borders, he should have known… …and now there was nothing he could do but watch Germany fall… …maybe he would even have had a chance to withstand the USoF attack with his united army (he had had almost 60 battalions of cavalry altogether… …he liked horses VERY MUCH) but now, with a third of his army slain in France, a third facing the USoF army without the Persian assistance and the rest apparently just getting massacred by the Persian traitors, there wasn’t much he could do, his glorious country was bound to go down… …and even worse, he couldn’t even spare one single battalion to protect his cities now from the Persians traitors… ..at least it would be a quick end.

…

The USoF commando tent, somewhere in Germany:

“General Supersnaat, what appears to be the host of the German army is ahead…”

“Well, we are prepared… …our spies say that they will outnumber us 2:1, but we will have the advantage of our superior battle experience and our superior…”

“Umh… …General Supersnaat, the German army facing us has only about half our size…”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Cool… …let’s just kill them then…”

99.JPG

And without facing any real resistance, General Supersnaat not only destroyed the rest of the German army (at that point, he didn’t know about that, but he would learn about the fact, that the German army either already died in France or by the hands of the Persians pretty soon) but also took the city of Frankfurt, in the middle of Germany. And after learning about the quick defeat of the German army in other parts of the world from Don Deity, General Supersnaat not wasted a second to fortify with all his men in Frankfurt. Instead he ordered about half of them to advance immediately towards the city of Stuttgart, the most important German harbour city, to seize the control over the channel from both sides (then the USoF navy would be able to sail from the harbour of Knossos to the harbour ofStuttgart within one day (=turn) without any risk of being attacked on the high sea) and to try to catch and destroy a big part of the German navy by surprise in the harbour there.
