all this talk of heroin makes me think of all the heroin addicts i used to hang out with. why did i do that?

i think it has more to do with my parents telling me i shouldnt hang out with them when i was a kid. theres also that hollywood thing, that makes some people think its glamorous or exciting, and only exciting people do it.

when in reality i think its mostly because of sheer boredom they start doing heavy drugs.

EDIT: one thing my mom told me as a kid about them that was actually true is, that they all offered their drug of choice to me, all of them. god knows why.

both the heroin addicts and the meth addicts (theres like a subculture of junkies were meth-heads look down on H-addicts and vice versa, then you have those who i like to call "pharmacists", these are people that take anything they can get their hands on, in large quantities).

make sure to just say no.

So you didn't have a directive to destroy the Opium? I think it'd be an awkward position. If you destroy it, you're ruining the livelihood of Afghan farmers; when you let it be, you're indirectly helping finance the Taliban.

The only thing I can think to do is pay the farmers the monetary value of their fields, and then destroy them.

One of the important parts of "drug education" is making sure schoolchildren know the eighty slang names for each drug of choice!

There was an initiative that I read about once, which sought to do this. Guess it didn't take off. Or has anyone else heard about this?
