About scenario age : pb is not to start in the industrial age but to already have cities, explored map, modern units and worked-on terrain I believe.

About the balloons yes I agree. I took one of their cities and destroyed kind of twenty of them, wondered what was happening and checked : lol result.
Balloons are not that great though : air units and bombardment but quite ineffective against my cruisers IMHO.
Now they succeeded in breaking one of my attacks by putting my cavalry done to one or two HPs (a stack of five) then counterattacking with rifleman. Now they had to use TONS of them :D
Sioux have a strong force too (less though) but other powers (most lacking in tech I admit) don't seem so interested. Maybe it has to do with flag preferences of some sort. Because obviously they prefered to build balloons rather than cavalry (which is MUCH more effective).
 
We're a bit baffled that the AI likes Balloons as much as it does. It was discovered during our betatests, where the Balloon was much more powerful, so we decided to reduce it's stats to the current ones, but apparently to no avail :confused:

We originally wanted to remove the Bombard ability completely to make it a recon unit, but without that Bombard ability, there is no AI Strategy flag available, which means that the AI won't know what to use the unit for, so currently the only solution left may be to remove the unit. :(

Yes, I have quickly updated the mod. Removing a Island city from Greece and adding some resources to England and Europe area.

Thats it for now..

Seems to work good.

You should post these in a separate thread. I encourage you to continue your work on this project, but I think you would be better served by having your own thread so that people could give more directed feedback, and your mod doesn't get swallowed up by the DyP thread. :D

I have a suggestion for the representation of Arctic and Antarctic Exploration:

Arctica and Antarctica to the world map.

Antarcitc and Arctic Tundra to be impassible to Wheeled Units

Addition of things such as "Antarctic Specimens" or something like
that to Antarctica as a resource, mixed in amongst sparce amounts of seals, game and whatever other resources are thought necassary, whilst correct natural resources are added to
Arctica aswell.

A new structure to boost Scientific Research, requiring Antarctic Specimens or whatever is used to represent them.

A new unit with low attack/defense ratings yet relatively good movement and able to cross the terrain with no penalty but with no ability to cross all terrain as if it were road.

With correct graphics, a team of Sled Dogs could be added who'd have decent movement, the ability to carry a person, the ability to cross the Antarctic easily, possibly the ability to build a Camp in the Antarctic (With limits on Food, these would never become major cities, and would probablly maintain a size of about 2 or 3). They could be limited to some sort of resource though, soi that they could be limited to use in Antarcita (Possibly an Antarctic only Bonus Resource?).

A new Ship coming in around the time of the Steam Frigate and using the same graphics as them that would be devoted to exploration rather then war (Possibly with a defense good enough to keep away Medieval Ships and the like) with some space for transporting a small group of people. The idea of this would be akin to the ship The Discovery, sent out in 1903 to explore Antartica with a team of 47 (later 46 when one fell from the Crows Nest waving off New Zealand) men.


What to people think of my idea?
 
Kal-el, I've told you before that i think your mod has raised the standard of civ3. I can't play the normal game now and other mods just aren't up to scratch.

Whens your next full update release?
I'm looking foward to it.

PS: I won't be pre ordering the new civ expansion, so i mean for the rest of us.
 
well, I assume you have 1.50x, and in that case all I can say is 2.0x can't be released until C3C is out. After that you can expect to see a new version for Conquests at some time in the future. ;)

I totally agree!! But i really love playing on europe maps instead of the world or random ones. is there a way to do this with DYP?

I had decided that balloons (in my games) are a recon only unit that has movement points but cant rebase and can just float around as it were. The ai doesnt build it but they see all anyway and its still very usefull. I thought about using it as a transport (1 foot unit) but havnt as of yet.

I dont think balloons were used much as a bombard unit in wars but mainly used for recon purposes. I know civil war soldiers used to fire at them to little avail....

This is strikingly similar to where we are going with this unit. :) To hell with whether the AI uses it for recon, as you say, they already see all anyway. :D

Im having a problem playing this mod. Whenever I get halfway through the middle ages, a message pops up saying "Load Error: Missing file "Knight Death.wav"". How can I fix this error? Btw, this mod is amazing. Great job. Keep up the good work Kal El.

Cool, Yes its rather fun to float a few balloons around to see what other civs are up to. Its very much like a mini-satilite that can let you keep in eye on other civs wars and troop movements. I see it as a way to even -up the playing field as to what the ai can do anyway and since it does cost in your budget its a decision that has to factor into your thinking as to how many you can afford to deploy.

Im still wondering on letting it be a small transport (1 foot unit) though it would be a slow one. Might try one of these days.

By the way , this is the only mod I play, and I tinker with units all the time and love it.
