Nope, I was asleep while you had the problem - The Internet Worm, must have fixed it

Anyway, I'll release patch 0.4.1 in a few hours - it will include the resources.pcx

Will it include the updated/corrected building-small and building-large files?? :D

I installed your mod and now civ 3 wont even let me start a new game! what gives?

I think this one deserves to go into the up-and-coming FAQ :D

Bad news: I can't explain why (yet, anyway) but it happens from time to time.

Good news: I haven't yet heard of anyone for whom the following procedure didn't solve the problem:

1. Uninstall Civ3
2. Reinstall Civ3
3. Apply Patch 1.21f
4. Install the DyP mod

If this doesn't help, let me know.

I hope you didn't follow Isak's advice yet, it's far simpler than that.(Sorry Sir Isak)

In the Civ3 folder there has to be a bic named "Civ3Mod".

If you're having this problem copy the DyP bic into the Civ3 folder, and rename it Civ3Mod. It is not case sensitive, but you must have it named correctly.

Hope this gets you goin.

Quite allright, Sir Civalaholic, but I feel I must point out that it's not (necessarily) that simple. Since version 0.31 there has been a file named civ3mod.bic in the main Civilization III directory by default (if you install the patch correctly, that is.) That file is the DyP-mod Bic.

I've experienced this bug myself once, with one but also with two bic files in the right directory (one named "civ3mod.bic", the other "DyP v.0.2.bic") and nothing happened when I pressed the New Game button. It was as if the button just stopped responding.

Replacing the bic had no effect, only thing that would do the trick was the procedure mentioned above.

I remember giving the same advice that Civalaholic passes on, and yes, if there is no bic file, the same thing happens - but the problem now is: If there's no bic in the Civilization III directory, you've installed the DyP mod incorrectly, and all files will be in the wrong places.........

[Edit: Just realized - If you have no bic in the Civ3 directory, you've installed Civ3 incorrectly - not just DyP ;) ]

Thats why U.R.P.I. is the only way to go:

- Uninstall Civ3
- Reinstall Civ3
- Patch to version 1.21f
- Install Double Your Pleasure :D

//Release manager congratulates himself on coming up with another useless acronym - just what the world needs//

i cant download any of the the patches on dyp mod website,in the raw list file. but if you go where it says to the download section you can download the new files
go figure.

You're right - there was an error in the script (it used to work, but.....I don't know what happened) - It's been fixed now however.

Oh, and by the way - Patch 0.45 is out now - it's around 750 kb, there's no Bic file (so you don't have to restart your games) and it's absolutely fat free - I would have posted the changes on the DyP site, but another error in another script was too much for my limited knowledge of ASP , so it will have to wait until Bernskov wakes up. Instead, I'll post it here for now:

------------------------------------
v.0.4.5 - will Fix/Change the Following
------------------------------------
Fixed: Graphic issues with Grunt Unit
Fixed: Graphic issue with Mid-Eastern academy in Civilopedia (using roman icons for now)
Fixed: Graphic issue with PPS-15 and Freight units, in Civilopedia
Fixed: Missing Government icons in Tech Chooser
Updated: Script.txt
Updated: In-game resource icons (Resources.pcx)
Updated: Build list icons for buildings (Buildings-large.pcx and Buildings-small.pcx)
------------------------------------

..... so please, Nightstorm, quiet down again, will ya?

But if I quite down, you guys will think something is wrong with me. Gotta keep ya on your toes.

Oh yeah, has anyone encountered the problem where one minute the game works fine, you exit out, come back and try to restart several hours later and the game won't even start? I'm trying the uninstall-reinstall thing as we speak and will see if that helps.

EDIT: I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and I still can't get my game to work. Any ideas?

Please see my earlier post on what one has to do to install the mod correctly. Basically, you must uninstall your initial Civ3 files before extracting the mod, as Isak says. But you not only have to run Windows uninstaller - you must also manually delete the entire Infogrames directory. (This is because Windows uninstaller leaves the Infogrames root directory present, which conflicts with the mod and causes the "New" and "Saved Game" buttons to malfunction on the Civ3 Intro screen.) Then reinstall Civ3, 1.21f, and extract the mod. I recommend using Isak's very simple (and very good) "EXE" version of the mod to do this; it simplifies things immensely. I also recommend defragging your hard drive at two separate points during this process: once after the automatic/manual uninstall step, and again after reloading Civ3, 1.21f, and the mod. As if that's not all, Windows Defrag works best if you run it twice in a row. So defrag four times total!

If I have an opportunity this weekend, I will post my install recommendations again, including the defrag steps advised above. Hope this helps anyone new to this impressive mod.

I've experienced this bug myself once, with one but also with two bic files in the right directory (one named "civ3mod.bic", the other "DyP v.0.2.bic") and nothing happened when I pressed the New Game button. It was as if the button just stopped responding.

I've had the same problem in regard to the new game button not working, and I was able to fix it by just replacing the bic file. Actually before I made the suggestion on the board I duplicated the error to ensure I my advice worked.

If there's no bic in the Civilization III directory, you've installed the DyP mod incorrectly, and all files will be in the wrong places.........
I see your point.

Thats why U.R.P.I. is the only way to go:

My P.C. is old and this can be quite the process, especially if you follow the defrag advice Def Lep suggest. One Defrag alone can take half an hour.

I'll just keep my mouth shut, and enjoy the gaming.

Actually I've been having a lot of errors myself and I'm gunna have to reinstall. I guess that's the price to pay for all the added pleasure. :)

Well, I figured out I'm not the only one having this problem...it appears that others are as well...see this thread to see what I mean...any help, I'd appreciate it... :)

I am having the same problem. My game crashed at 2050BC and despite and un-install re-install I can not get Civ 3 to start again.
Maybe it is the 4.5 patch that is doing it?

Not trying to be defensive here, but apparently even people who don't play DyP (yes they do exist) are having this problem - so it does look like a General Civ3 error, not a DyP error.

And since Firaxis are all quiet about it, I may just have to crush this one myself. :jesus:

Does installing this MOD replace the civ3.exe file???

I normally replace my original with the nocd.exe file because I don´t wanna insert the cd whenever I want to play it. When I reinstall Civ3 and install ur mod, then get the nocd.exe i can´t even get into civ3?

Nope, it doesn't - distributing edited versions of the main .exe would be considered illegal, and we're definitely not very high on that.

Can't give you any explanations, but If you can make it work with the original .exe, then missing the no-cd patch should only be a minor nuisance, I think ;)

Exactly when does this error occur? - When starting Civ3, when starting a new game, etc.
- please be as specific as possible - I'm afraid only Firaxis and a few hardcore coders know what the stack dump means
Also, did you install v.0.40 and then 0.45 or did you jump from 0.33 to 0.45 without installing 0.40 - in other words, which version of DyP did you previously run without experiencing this problem?

are you saying that you can't even load up Civ3?

after you got through URPI are you able to play any of the earlier versions of the mod?

v.0.45 just adds some missing images so that should not affect the game in any way but visually.

Please uninstall again, reinstall civ3, apply patch 1.21f and verify that you can start the game with that.

Only then, install the DyP mod up to v.0.40 and again verify that it works.

Then apply patch 0.45 - If that crashes...well, Houston, we've got a problem.
