Double Your Pleasure

It's good that the game enforces the rate cap. but, even if you set the science and luxury to 0% when the cap is 60%, you still get 100% of the gold. They should enforce that before they give you the gold instead of afterwards. Maybe we should point this out to firaxis because it seems as a minor way to circumvent the rateCap. (for taxes at least)

Really - I never checked that. If that's true, it would indeed be something we should point out to Firaxis. I suspect it is because the original game doesn't use these settings - all governments have a rate cap of 100% in the original Civ3. But I guess we might still make them fix it.

And Dark_Magician: Don't worry I was the last person on the team to get it, originally - and it only happened after RobO was kind enough to bend it in neon for me ;)

well, because of this reason, and tax is usually the only thing where you want it at 100% since there is a minimum turns for tech, I didn't consider the rate difference too important among governments. but in essence, that's cheating because we're violating the rules for DYP. Unless you're like most of us and didn't realize what were doing was cheating :) But now you know! :)

I found another slight mistake the secret agent's operational range is set to 0 so it cannot be airdropped anywhere

An idea for linking unhappiness to production buildings:

People have always been distrustful of new technology, but over time, learn to tolerate it. Every time a production-building is BUILT, 1-3 people would become unhappy..BUT after 10 turns or so, their unhapiness would expire, because they "learned to live with" the technology ;)
You could base this off of the "Expiring Unhappiness" you get from Drafting/People-Hurrying..

On another subject..I think the way all Defence-Bonus buildings Expire @ Citysize 7 is a goldmine. I mean, if you just attatch a 5% defence bonus to all Shrines..voila, you've found a way to make shrines expire :flamedevil:  :flamedevil:

Otherwise, great mod..that is, until I find new ways to improve it :D

That's a neat idea Dingo. I hope they look into it. :)

Hey Isak, um, would it be possible for you to post the excel file for the v.795? And could RobO create the text version of that and could you post that on the DYP website as well? It seems not everyone has Excel :)

well, it's not hard to post, so I didn't want to ask others to do something and not do it myself :) the more people that ask, the more pressure he'll feel :)

*cranks up pressure cooker to high*

I did find out something I had forgotten (embarrassed chuckle). I have MS Works... and the spreadsheet can read .xls files . I never use the dumb spreadsheet, so how was I supposed to know? *muttering*.

Upshot of it is... .xls file read.

( at own stupidity)

No use trying to force me guys - because of that I will not release a spreadsheet for v.0.79.5........... :mwaha:

J/K :D

Actually a new patch should land on the DyP site within 24 hours (after that I'm on vacation for 5 days, so it's now or never.... well never as in never in the next five days anyway)

If that fails, I will upload the 0.79.5 reference, don't worry.

Dingocat85: Decreasing happiness over time is unfortunately not possible for Improvements :( The idea is not bad though, but we need Firaxis (the guys working on the engine, remember ;) ) to allow it first.

The other idea is definitely good thinking - Don't know if we will implement it yet, as we really would prefer an improvement to go obsolete at the same time all over the empire (specifically the Slave Market going obsolete with Emancipation) - but still very good thinking :goodjob: (I may just implement it in my own mod - which will be out in the year 2525)

Dingocat85: Great idea! I'll test that to see if it works... :)

Edit: I just did a very quick test on it (with the help of the Civ3MultiTool :) ). I attached a 1% defense bonus to the Shrine. I started with a Religious civ (India), quick rushed a shrine in, then placed in multiple workers and an aqueduct with the Civ3MultiTool. After one turn, I made the workers join the city until it was size 9. I waited 1 more turn (the city starved back down to 8), I checked and I couldn't build the Shrine any more. But, before I sold the Shrine, the effects of it were still working, so I don't know what you could do to make the Shrine useless to cities who have already built it and have grown past 7.

I'm not sure if doing this for a large number of buildings would be good, but definitely for a few of the earlier buildings, such as the Shrine.

It's intentional - we have to overwrite many of the original text and art files, so if you tried to use the original civ3mod.bic it would produce errors en masse. That is fortunately going to change once the PtW expansion comes out.

There is a workaround THAT little problem: Just copy all of the Civ3 Original files from the default program files|infogrames blah, blah, blah to a new directory: in this case, c:\Civ3, then use KingJoshi's ModManager to install DyP, then create a shortcut to the DyP Civ3.exe on your desktop/quicklaunch bar. Started a game, haven't had a problem yet.

If only everything was that easily solved. :D :goodjob:

Yes indeed - KingJoshi's modmanager rules :goodjob: I use it myself.

But just to clarify - you still shouldn't attempt to run games with the original civ3mod.bic while the DyP files are in your Civ3 install directory. (no it's not gonna blow up - actually I have no idea exactly what will happen - it's just sort of a "don't try this at home kids" kind of message type of thing that I feel I have to do as the "responsible" member of this team.....;) )

Randy24242424: Great testing - I'm sure that knowledge will come in handy once OFL returns. :goodjob:

Edit Actually - this is a bug isn't it? I think this should be reported to Firaxis, and will do so once I get the time, unless someone beats me to it (kìngjoshi :D )

On the spreadsheet: The number of changes from 0.77 to 0.795 are so small that they almost don't warrant a spreadsheet update ;) Check out the changelog ;)

I'm pretty much done with a spreadsheet for the next one, and I'll send that to Isak, hopefully later today.

 I know, Isak, but thank you for the advisory! :D . I have two copies of CivIII installed- one in the default directory that has only graphic mods I like, and the DyP modded one in C:\Civ3 - completely different directories completely. Works nicely, now I can have both. :D :scan:

Version 0.80 is on the DyP site now.

I'm too tired to do the changelog stuff - hopefully someone else will

I'm going on a five day vacation - If I find a computer, I will check in, if not I'll miss you all and see you next week :)

I tried at home what you've told me, but it doesn't work, there's no free luxury. So, jumping science bar is noncence. If I forgot to switch manually, whichhappens every 5-6 turns, I keep loosing units and improvements.

Dark_Magician, you're right. There is no free lunch, even in Civ3 / DyP ;)

There is a limitation, however. In despotism for example, you cannot have a higer tax setting than 60%. Nor can the science setting be higher than 60% (or the luxury, but that's unlikely to cause problems). So, you could conceivably be losing money if 60% tax isn't enough.

The solutions? Switch government to one with a higher rate cap. Sell improvements. Disband units. Found or conquer a city or two (this will allow you to support more units).

Who said it was supposed to be easy :D
