Dragons!

No, Dragons are death machines made by the gods to wage war. The gods are the conduits to their respective dominions. So if you wanted to end a sphere of magic you would have to kill the god (which is why Winter is a dead spell sphere right now) which could be done through the Avatars.

I like the idea of the death of the dragons effecting the cult. In fact I want to quest in ways to end all of the religions. Something like if you get the religion below a certain percent and raze the holy city the gods avatar will appear. If you kill that avatar the religion is destroyed.

Those sorts of things will probably come in "Fire" and "Shadow".

Killing spheres and Gods will be possible at some point? "Hello Marrowind/oblivion, oh im sorry, youve been replaced by Kael's Kick*** FFH mod."

On the end of religions - is there a benifit in game to it? (Other than pure satisfaction?)
Ooo...a thought. If a holy city is razed (not merely conqured), then the avatar appears on the side of he/she who's city was razed. The avatar, after thomping the enemy, could then "be sacrificed" to make a new holy city of that religion? The avatar ascending again. However, if the avatar is killed, - insert badness for the loser/goodness for the winner here.

EDIT: Maybe if the avatar is killed, every single city that has the religion of the dying avatar A) loses the religion AND B) goes through immediate revolt/inquisition AND C) gains +4 unhappiness for 20 turns.
Too Drastic?

The game benifit of killing religions is that it would make a religious victory all the more possible. It would also strengthen the founders of the existing religions and weaken those invested in the old religions (all those temples now worthless, priests powerless, etc).

And thats all assuming we dont add a special benifit of our own for doing it. Maybe all the worlds demons get more powerful if the order holy city is razed, etc.

I think Ill kill off the OO first.......i want my warrior units to obsolete. J/k.

EDIT: How will this affect sphere access? Will that possibly ever be affected by religious conflict? Considering somewhere i think you said that each sphere itself has its own god. Is it going to be possible to kill ALL the sphere gods? thereby destroying the appropriate abilities to build those nodes and mahap even USE spells from that sphere?

EDIT2: I imagine it would be pretty devestating to the Malakim in particular if the Sun god was destroyed.

No real plans to turn off spell spheres.

Being able to end the religions would probably be as far as we would take it.

Hm. What if one spell-sphere could only be turned "off" by enhancing another. Or that the only way to destroy one spell sphere was with its opposite? Like if the Life sphere went on a crusade to destroy the "death" sphere. It'd be an interesting game to watch a death sphere user trouncing a life civ, but then the life civ accomplished some critical task, that destroyed the death sphere (and the subsequent ability to use plague), thereby turning the tables.

P.s. this wouldnt utterly destroy the evil civ, but it'd force them to fall back and readjust their tactics, biding the life-users time.

EDIT: Maybe this could/should only be questable? If its a quest it'd not have to be part of the normal managment of a civilization.

Will the Illurians have winter magic?

There are special plans for the Illians in "Ice". The codeword for the phase should give some indication. ;)

A second ice age? That'd be the most interesting/probable if my estimates of what you enjoy are correct.

EDIT: HA! Winter is coming....

I actually think he meant Ice magic, but ok... I mean the god of Winter is dead.

Re: dragons

I think the Dragon cult religions might benefit from some dragon "inspired" units, flying WyvernRiders does kinda sping to mind.

This god destruction mechanic is fantastic. The Godslayer is previewed in the Wonder Thread as a Armaggedon Spell. Which role, if any, in the god destruction mechanic?
