Aww, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. I too have a phobia of frogs (I stepped on one in bare feet in the dark and it made a noise like Satan belching

) I hate them!!! Strangely I was fully prepared to paint on in large on my wall.

Actually, yup, that can be my excuse for
not having gone ahead with the mural - thanks for that!
Now you can't possibly call this one scary! Can you?
I was heavily influenced by the work of Jasper Johns. I took his style and then stretched it out my own way. This is one example (he painted a lot of maps, particulary of America). This painting is after a trip to the north of India, where I saw snowy peaks, then desert, then jungle. I went out and bought some satellite photos of India and used these as my base, to show the physical diversity of the country. However, the title naturally refers to the British name for India, which then got stuck somehow. As with Jasper Johns' flags, the brushstrokes indicate the vibrancy and diversity held within such simple, petty things such as 'names'. He was very much into the relationship between the abstract (names, maps, flags etc) and the reality they represented. That's what I am doing in this painting.
This is 4ft x 5ft and is done in acrylic paint.
Some Detail (I actually messed this painting up, cos I totally forgot about Sri Lanka. It was such a long drawn out process scaling the map up to size that I completely forgot!)
