A week ago I couldn't sleep, so I made the sketch for this. I've then mucked it up in Photoshop.

FredLC linked to this from the Art thread so here's a sketch i did a while back, but it remains as my best sketch of an eye to date!

Thanks for pointing me here Fred. Love your drawings man !

Here is one from me. I've got plenty more from ever since GCSE days (about 13 years ago now). As part of my art education I had to sit and draw, with a pencil, a boot, bottle and some rope (for example) for about 12 hours. So somewhere in my house I have loads of almost photo real still life pencil drawings. Not sure where they are but I'll post them if I find them. There are also plenty of paintings to post.

Anyway, I give you William Shakespeare.

I mentioned a mural I did a sketch for based on the paintings of Henri Rousseau and some record covers. You can see those here.

Well this is the sketch I did from a Jamiroquai record insert. The square pencil lines are where my desk and bookshelf would have gone. Unfortunately it was a pretty bloody big wall and I never got round to doing the mural. :(

And this is a sketch to practise some of the detail required for the massive frog that would go on the leaf.

But doing big paintings was not a problem, I did many of those and will share them later, but I don't want to completely hijack the thread.

*squeals girlishly*

I have a terrible phobia of frogs - a giant treefrog would scare the wits out of me! >_<

Edit: And the bug! But the bird is beautiful - i love coloured pencils :) I never had any decent ones though

Aww, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. I too have a phobia of frogs (I stepped on one in bare feet in the dark and it made a noise like Satan belching  ) I hate them!!! Strangely I was fully prepared to paint on in large on my wall. :crazyeye: Actually, yup, that can be my excuse for not having gone ahead with the mural - thanks for that! :D

Now you can't possibly call this one scary! Can you?

I was heavily influenced by the work of Jasper Johns. I took his style and then stretched it out my own way. This is one example (he painted a lot of maps, particulary of America). This painting is after a trip to the north of India, where I saw snowy peaks, then desert, then jungle. I went out and bought some satellite photos of India and used these as my base, to show the physical diversity of the country. However, the title naturally refers to the British name for India, which then got stuck somehow. As with Jasper Johns' flags, the brushstrokes indicate the vibrancy and diversity held within such simple, petty things such as 'names'. He was very much into the relationship between the abstract (names, maps, flags etc) and the reality they represented. That's what I am doing in this painting.

This is 4ft x 5ft and is done in acrylic paint.

Some Detail (I actually messed this painting up, cos I totally forgot about Sri Lanka. It was such a long drawn out process scaling the map up to size that I completely forgot!)

Thanks. Nice to see new blood in the DaL again, as well.

Anyway, it's been a while since I posted anything. Kinda busy now. I'll see if I can come up with something. ;)

Regards :).

i absolutely love the artworks guys. Please post more!!

thnx to everyone (and i do mean everyone) here, my interest in art has rekindled. I haven't drawn anything for fun in well over 3-4 years. it seems like the moment i entered high school, my artistic side died. thanks for reviving it! :goodjob:

Love the way you did the text, its awesome! I miss painting :( Stupid engineering and its time-consuming reports and exams...

Well you can still be doing some doodlings Feline. ;)

Here is another painting of mine. This is purely text. Or is it? I hope you caught the reasoning behind these paintings because this is another one dealing with abstractions and their relationship with reality. Text is of course a prime example of this process, which is why I use it and am deliberately not seeking to represent anything in a figurative sense.

The abstraction I am dealing with here is of course TIME. Pointing out that it is quite amazing / ridiculous how we order and restrict our lives and the world around us simply by following a pattern of 12 numbers. Clocks are of course nothing but mechanisms, which push two hands around a face decorated with "ONE TO TWELVE IN A CIRCLE". It goes round and round and we pay complete homage to it.

Again, it is a representation of the reality of day passing into night and so on. However this abstraction is a little different to a map. Yet I am still trying to show (with the way I have applied the paint) that within this constraining abstraction, there is still diversity, excitement, undefined elements and order within chaos.

This is also painted in acrylics, on hardboard, bought at a DIY store. It is 4ft x 6ft I think.

Couldn't find the shots I took of the detail so I've blown some up, bit crappy but better than nothing.

This is one of Jasper Johns' pieces, which first got me into his "abstraction and reality" themes.

So me and my friend Ben have been pretty bored at work... we work at a call centre taking calls from silly customers who don't ever read the terms and conditions... naturally its pretty boring when its quiet so we've been using Paint to amuse ourselves, but it lead to the PANDA WARS!

It all began quite innocently, then we got random, leading to an arguement as to whether the panda at the bottom was going to be an Ninja Attack Panda or a Invading Barbarian panda... Naturally we agreed on it being a Ninja Attack Panda.

Then it got hostile!! Ben declared war on my Ninjatown and its panda citizens... and now he's deploying the tanks!
Naturally I had to defend my beloved Ninjatown and its peaceloving residents, so i deployed the helicopters, which you can also see at the top of the page!

What? Yes, that's right... we get paid to draw silly pictures at work all day :P Its a hard life...

Hard life indeed. Now if you can animate them and give them voices you've got a Panda South Park!!!

My painter program is working  so I can continue to spam your precious thread with scraps like this. It's 2:45 in the morning and I haven't got anything better to do. So here's a quickie.

After watching the recent "War of the Worlds" movie, and having very little to do this summer, I descided to draw out my own version of the calssic Martian War machine.

After tweeking it a bit with Macromedia Fireworks, I've created this little number:
