Dual Deity Challenge

It's two deity games on standard size 60% water Tectonics v 7 AIs, epic speed.

Ughhh.......................!

Will be watching this challenge with interest. I can't manage deity (I'm only an immortal...) but this'll be interesting for sure.

Go ahead and see it you make it to the first checkpoint :)

Yay I did.

Spoiler for 1000BC Gilgamesh.

Spoiler :

I've taken no casualties so far which is surely thanks to the fact this is a PRO leader.:king: (EDIT actually I did sacrifice an archer to take out an axe, so 1 archer lost :) )

The chokepoint to the west attracted a huge swarm of barb axe/spears/archers. The lone archer there has already racked up 10xp, with CG3/D1 and another promo ready to go.

I just got Writing exactly on 1000BC, so getting 3 libraries up asap.

Spoiler Locations of strategic resources: copper/horse :

Dang no horses and copper is way up in the ice - useless. I'm not sure whether to take the copper anyway or hold it out til iron. I've got a feeling the hill I settled the capital on would have a resource - probably iron. :)

Charlie will hopefully be a good trade partner, if not at least a person to steal techs from. :mischief:

My tech path now is straight for courthouses at Priesthood.

Ah, a Deity challange finally. I'll give it a go sometime soon. Will be interesting to compare my game to titans like USun and Rusten :]

Between epic and SP i am not sure if i will participate in this yet, but i'll refrain from reading spoilers for now...

Thanks for pm. Too bad you start this "after" my vacation is over. :p But I will try to play both till 1000BC in the weekend. One downside is epic speed but I'll see how it goes.

One question though: What can I expect from tectonics? Never played it before.

Gilg start: never played Gilg before. I don't like protective much but his UU/UB look interesting. Priesthood-col seems obvious and with forests maybe Oracle chop. Tech to pick will depend on the rest of the map. I would prefer cottaging (I see at least 4 riverside grasslands and there's probably more) unless the rest of the map says otherwise.

Pacal start: Probably settle on sugar, looks like a nice start. If I remember well Pacal starts with myst and mining so hunting-ah-archery-bw-wheel?

But we'll see how the maps look, determining strategy before that is rather pointless. :p

Obviously abusing reload is not OK, but reloading to an earlier point to explore branching stategies is OK.

replaying lets you to know map more exactly... so strategy and menagerment can differs from a first pass. :D

But from another hand - early defeat is not informative a for deity game. I mean - it is too easy :D

Ughhh.......................!

My thoughts exactly.. excitement then.. despair.
Not only epic speed but two epic speed games simultaneously? With my general play speed I'll be glad to have it in before summer. Of course speed can be changed in WB but you can't give the barbs the proper techs without spoiling the other civs.

Beyond that you've picked two good starts with two great leaders imo, maybe I'll change the speed but let the barbs be nerfed after all, it's not like I win most deity games anyhow and at least the AI can capture barb cities for once with their (usually) ineffectual first stacks. It does render the holkan a little less useful than normally though. I consider it a terrific UU but with barb warriors it will only be average.

Gilgamesh has been forest-spammed, so expect a hidden resource on the hill. And I can't tell from the screenshot, but it looks like 2S lacks forest as well? Starting with Ag+Wheel, teching Mining-BW seems obvious. Then Hunting-Archery? I hate wasting time on those, but the times I've tried Deity, the barbs have been a real pain.

Pacal starts with Mining and Myst, and the problem here is that so many different starting techs are needed. Fish-Hunt-AH? Definitely settle on the Sugar.

Hm, actually I guess I'm not sure on the forest-spamming: does Tectonics use the same bit of code to sweeten start spots as most of the "standard" maps?

Pretty sure it does...

I'll give Pacal a try. Another vote for settling on the sugar, still get plenty of hills/cow for prod and hopefully something to feed the plains hills you miss by moving. Another big plus, 2 early happies as I still haven't won a deity game I need all the help I can get. :)

So save downloaded and ready to start.

Epic speed, my favorable play style. ;)

Gilese, why would the barbarians be nerfed if the speed is changed? Does it have to do with the difficulty level "resetting" back to noble if the game is opened in WB?

I don't know what exactly causes it but apparently the barbarians forget a couple of techs, such as archery when you fiddle with the WB. I don't know how barbs generate beakers either but it takes a long time for them to acquire archery. On deity, any cities that pop will be instantly captured by the first stack to arrive pretty much and as for defense, you don't have to worry as much though pillaging barb warriors still require numerical superiority of course if you defend with warriors yourself and don't want to take chances.
Other than that there are no changes beyond what you adjust yourself in the WB that I'm aware of. You can give the barbarians the techs but to do so you access a droplist of all the civs in game and so it's naturally an unacceptable spoiler.
I think I'll go ahead and change the speed though as that is easilly done without spoiling if you cover part of the screen/look away, I'd like to try these games but not on epic so the barb issue can't be helped.

Regarding barbs any idea when they enter your boundaries. Spoiler involves Pacal up to 2950.

If the barb archer hadn't pillaged my gem mine and gone for Mutal it would have been game over. :) For some reason he pillaged it then moved out of my boundaries so haven't died yet.
