If you were watching a movie not originally in the vernacular, would you rather have a subtitle, or should it be dubbed?

I prefer subtitles. It doesn't look so fake.:smug:

@Azadre

Watch any 70s Kung-Fu movie, and you'll see why dubbing is a horrible idea. :p

In theatre I prefer dubbed because my eyesite is poor and it can be hard to read but at home I prefer subtitles cause I can pause rewind and where my glasses and not contacts.

Subtitles.

Dubbing many times weakens the original sound effect.

The City of Lost Children is a great movie to watch with subtitles. The French is short, and the movie visually gripping.

Subtitles. If the show/movie is english, neither.

I tried to watch "Life is beautiful" dubbed to english, but that was a horrible experience.

Subtitles for most movies, some movies dubbed. What would Godzilla be without being dubbed?

It depends I suppose. When I watched the Cowboy Bebop movie in subtitles it wasn't much fun and the voices didn't really sound right(not to mention whoever does the work for adult swim does a very good job at dubbing because you don't get those really annoying pauses after someone speaks) then I started to watched Inuyasha with subtitles and it is so much better. The Japanese voices sound much more natural and the annoying high pitch voices of 2 of the characters wasn't there anymore. and since I can read at a decent pace I didn't really have any problems. Of course it took a few episodes to get used to the whole thing, but I think I have it down pat.

Both. I saw Hero when it came out and that was subtitled, spent too much time reading and not enough time watching. But dubbed is always crap, half the voices don't even fit the people I'm sure half of the women's dubbed voices is done by men

Subtitled. How else does one learn English properly?:)
