Dungeon Adventure MOD MOD

Heh, yeah.. mixing up ppl b/c of identical avatars is a pain. ;)
I would change mine, as LM's obviously been here longer and avatars aren't exactly lacking, if it hadn't been for all those wounderfull memories conected to the Civ I Militia icon. Good times, good times.. :)

I still get a little confused when I see posts by (mostly new) members using the great prophet icon, even after switching to look like Govannon.

Just wanted everyone to know that I'm going to be off for a bit. Rest assured, if I don't post for a few days to a week, it is not because I have abandoned the modmod! I actually came down with a resistant strain of strep throat. :nuke: I haven't had strep since I was a little kid. Wow... if you think strep sucks when you are a little kid, just try getting it when you are older. I know that I will recover in a few days, but right now I just want to curl up on the couch and pray for the sweet release of death. I can't even eat Cheetos because they are crunchy and it hurts too much -- and that is just a slap in the face. I momentarily considered making a Cheetos smoothie... the thought of which, upon further reflection, didn't help the nausea any.

Erg. Just typing this has made me tired. I'm going to go lie down on the couch again and try not to think of liquid Cheetos. See you in a few days.

good luck, get some rest!
and think of some cool ideas while lying around :D

Put together a new avatar. That's about all I could handle this week. The good news is that I'm on the mend. Should be back in business next week.

is the plan to try and emulate something like NetHack?
If so that would be the nuts, especially if it were NetHack but in this 3D world...
That pretty much already exists - check out The Falcon's Eye :)

I am getting an error trying to run the mod... i have installed all the componants as defined in post #400...

what operating system do you run? Vista? XP? i have the same issue with Vista...

See screen shot...

Thanks

Might be the same issue that pops up with regular FfH2:

1. "GFC error: failed to initialaize the primary control theme" error loading the mod. You will receive this error if FfH isn't installed in the correct location (under Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods). If you don't have Civ4 installed to that location just make sure the FfH is installed in the same directory as Final Frontier, Age of Ice and the other mods that came with BtS. Also make sure you have installed the full mod and not just the patch.

So.... double check that the path is correct.

Also, PL is right. The mod is glitchy under Vista, especially Vista 64. I am still looking into why this is -- it works fine under XP.

Yer I know about Falcons Eye and it is really good but would love a 3d world like in civ.

Not running Vista, XP...

I have never had any problem with ffh in the past. I have the adventure mod installed in;
Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Adventure

I unpacked the extra ffh pak into the assets folder as stated in post #400. I did notice that the zip wanted it to be Adventure2 but I thought this was related to the zip name and not where it should go. Followed the instructions.
What I do not have is the old folder for ffh 31 as I have moved to 32 now. But I thought Adventure was a self contained mod since the pak is now located in its tree.
Do I need to have ffh 31 installed in the mods folder?

Espcially a FfH themed one ;)

Well, I did try to make this a stand alone mod. I have it installed on an XP computer without any FfH2 mods and it works fine.

It is possible that the unzip pathing got messed up on you but, without actually seeing your computer, I couldn't tell. Keep in mind that this is a pre-Alpha release -- and is not very public friendly. :(

I have begun the process of stripping down FfH2 032 to its very core. I plan to use that as a base to rebuild this mod. I am hoping to avoid the Vista problems this time around.

Also, I may release some of the features of DA as stand alone modlets. I need to figure out how to do that though. I thought perhaps agglutinave modules would work, but I haven't seen that those will let you add custom python. Unfortunately, my stuff is heavily reliant on python.

Just a few semi-random ideas I had:

1. Since the first release had so many buildable buildings that forced you to scroll through all of them to find the one you want, it would take a while to go through each one individually and change the tech needed for each to none, why not just perform a mass-deletion of all of them and only add new ones back into the file (taken from a backup file which still had all of them) when needed, since the majority of units and buildings likely won't be in the actual modmod. This would also decrease the download time, since we wouldn't have to download all the unneeded data that we currently do.

2. Would it be somehow possible to have a program that translated NetHack maps into Civ IV scenarios? This would allow for the use of an already functioning map generator to at least give the basic layout of the maps, so that the game would only need to add units and treasures and other features. I doubt it's possible, but it would be cool.

3. For a scenario: you were sent into the vast caverns to explore them and send resources back up to your parent civilization (which would be whomever you choose at the start of the game). The more you send them, the more support you get, and you also can aid them in their wars raging above the surface. If your civ is faltering, you may experience raids into the caverns by their attackers, but if they are winning then they may send some of their more experienced soldiers down to aid in your exploring. Most of the interactions could be through events, but it would be cool if you could somehow ask for extra supplies now and then without having to wait for an event that might give you some.
