Dunkirk 2 --a new beginning

We even changed people last time, so why not? Live and learn... and then start winning ;p

Not only CAN you change moves, I would EXPECT you to do so...why would you not use the experience you have to improve? Please change accordingly.

Cool, the BEF survives and Paris *might* live for an extra turn now.

Rcoutme, do we need to download new files for the changes to work?

No need to download any files, the change is in the map file, so since we all play the same map file, you simply need to realize that Inf and Inf_II's can now be drafted. I will change the civilopedia some other time...

What's the time frame on the first turn? I have a save, but not sure if it's the right one. May have access to check the thread before geting to play the turn...

Battle report May 1940 England.

Fighter bombs wine-tile on sicily, but fails.

Fighters bomb Infantry holding a coal tile north of Bonn. 2 miss, 1 hit.

Save send to Gish (FRA).

I sent it to Dazz last night. I also caught him on MSN and he was saying that he needed to get some files from Rcoutme again.

I Stumble from one computer problem to another ...

My internet connection and email has been erratic to say the least since my computer crashed but this is due to a problem with my ISP. It has been kind of fixed but I now find that the turn I received from Gnarf was heavily corrupted as it arrived during the problem.

@ Gnarf ... if you could send me the save file again please.

@ Rcoutme ... its ok ... I have managed to download the game files I need.

Once I get the file and play, I HOPE to be able to send it ... my email hasn't been sending attachments consistantly - it has taken something like 36 hours to manage to send a turn for TGW !!!

No need to resend the file Gnarf ... the original appeared in my inbox again with a stack of stuff which should have been here days ago. It played fine and I was even able to send it on first time ... hopefully my ISP has got things sorted once and for all.

*** I cannot help feeling cheated by the restart of this game. In my humble opinion the English and French players had made a bit of a mess of the opening turn by not communicating and doing what should have been done with the result that I managed to wipe out the BEF and with the fall of Strasbourg and Paris the French were reeling.

Thanks to the restart and the fact that they were able to totally change their moves to combat my strategy, the English and French did what they should have done to start with ... move the BEF a safe distance away and bomb roads and railroads with the end result that the BEF survives and the only French city I could hit was Strasbourg ... it was physically impossible to hit any other French city thanks to the lack of roads and rail. Therefore it is impossible for me to recreate the advantage I won on turn 1 last time, all thanks to the restart

I would also like to know what else has been changed prior to the restart ... for example, German starting treasury and running deficit are not the same as first time round, also , on turn 1 I traded with Sweden to obtain Radar - this time the Swedes don't even have Radar ....... ***

Spain has played and sent along. I agree that Germany did not do as well...but as I mentioned, you guys will be experts by the end of the scenario (especially if we keep restarting). I would suggest that I would rather see a semi-decent French/British fight than a one-sided one. It will better show me if the scenario is balanced. So, I ask Dazz-G to keep on playing and blasting those #@$% Frenchies. ;)

You ran out of troops attacking the Maginot. It was your decision as to which was more important!

Needless to say, I relayed a few of my experiences as a German invader to the hapless Frenchies... not that they were needed at all.

I was frankly unable to decide when I played whether the cities or the troops were more important to kill off (having been faced with the same situation you were).

Clearly I went down the city grabbing route (I basically cut&pasted what the Nazis did) but I am totally curious to see if what you did was smarter!

What, there's a war going on? We were just obliviously building roads...

My whole point is that I didn't have any decision to make ... the BEF has ran with its tail between its legs and was nowhere to be found and thanks to the roads and rail that were taken out, the only city I could hit at all was Strasbourg and the only way I could do this was by going through the Maginot ... basically the English and French were given the opportunity to correct their mistakes and counter my strategy.

I kinda agree with Dazz G, though. I was not attacked last time. This time my alliance with Germany is anticipated. WRT Germany, fine, you want the "best" moves for this, but attacking Italy right off the bat isn't necessarily optimal play if you don't know that Italy is going to join the axis.

I'm sure you will Rik ;)

As far as i'm concerned I had said what I wanted to say but when Aeon starts about it being my decision and I ran out of troops, I just wanted to set the record straight ... I punched one hole through the Maginot and captured Strasbourg. I had a lot of panzers left but because of the missing rail network, I couldn't reach any other cities. The only real decision I had was whether to move then adjacent to, for example, Paris in readiness for next turn but as this would expose them to possible Air and Artillery bombardment and counterattack (the BEF is still out there somewhere) I decided to use them to flush out a lot of the Maginot.

It is worth remembering that my combat reports are always listed in the exact order I do things.

Oh and one other thing ... when I catch up with the BEF, they are going to feel my wrath ... assuming they haven't ran away home to Blighty, that is .........
