Duplicate Icons

I like the fish icon the most, but the seashell one works fine too

I'll wait to see if anyone else wants to chime in on which fishmongers symbol to use. In the meantime, here's what I thought up for Clerks' Guild.

I took a quill and ink pen symbol from Wikimedia Commons, then rotated and shrank the feather a little. I found that trying to make a paler color of feather would just cause it to blur when it was cut down. The shield symbols are only 32 pixels high on the shield, and the shield itself gets cut down to 32x30 for pasting on the guildhall.

I too would prefer the fish for the Fishmongers Guild, but the seashell is still intuitive enough.
Quill and ink are a nice idea for the Clerks!

Blue fish for Fishmongers is best, intuitive.

Quill for Clerks.

Any colour with a high contrast V's the Orange background is better.

I made a few more guild icons. I'll stay with the fish for Fishmongers.

Bakers Guild can use the loaf of bread icon for 5+ food on a tile.

Equestrians Guild will use a horseshoe. I think it will be easier to recognize than the Horse.

Grocers Guild will use the apple from Worldbuilder.

Finally, for Masons Guild, I went back and looked at WoL's Guild icons and saw that it has an Architects Guild. I don't think this is very easy to recognize (it's a Freemasons symbol) and isn't very easy to see. I made one with a column that I think will work better.

I think that would look even worse. White stands out pretty well against the orange.

The sea-shell makes me think it must be Shell Oil corporation!

There are no perfect answers - I would be happy with the above. I sometimes make icons too - and sometimes they just jump from mind to computer and look great and get the idea across instantly... and other times I struggle to find color / image / design that doesn't just muddle the idea. Just my experience.

This isn't really a duplicate, but could we use this (Colonization's Elder Statesman) in place of the current Great Diplomat? There are two possibilities; one is the icon straight, and the other is with the background removed and the statesman pasted on the standard green background.

Here's some more guild icons as well.

Apothecaries Guild. Icon is the Build Research flask. I thought that because this flask had a liquid in it and there wasn't an easy way to remove it, it would work better for Apothecaries than Glassblowers.

Artists Guild. Icon is the Build Culture note. (We still need another button for the regular Artists Guild building, but that's a separate issue.)

Glassblowers Guild. Icon is the Glass resource from Pie's Ancient Europe. I was looking for something clear glass and I think this works.

Mercers Guild. Icon is the Sugar resource. (Historical mercers started out as cloth and wool dealers, but in-game, that's the role of the Drapers Guild, so I used one of the resources that Mercers Guild actually consumes.)

I think I have a fix in place that allows ethnic unit buttons to appear on the main screen. It also works for units you don't control (see the second screenshot). I will upload this as part of my next mega-update. It might need a little bit of testing because I had to fiddle around to get it to work.

I also noticed when playing around with the unit buttons that the African Warrior doesn't have its own button. I found this one in the button files we already have. I think we should use this instead.

Here's the rest of the guilds.

Blacksmiths Guild, Carpenters Guild, and Goldsmiths Guild are taken directly from the World of Legends guilds. I did clean up the white line around the top of the icon. It looked out of place.

I used a bull's head for the Butchers Guild. I think it will be easy to recognize.

I agree, I've seen images before reading and I didn't understand at first it was a coin.

Maybe just give more contrast to the coin? Or use the icon for gold (piled coins)?

Or a gold ingot, maybe with a black outline around it to better separate the yellow gold from the yellow background.
