Early release of BTS?!?

My local gaming shop in the Netherlands still says it will be for sale on friday and even more amazing the price is supposed to be 16.99 euros. Even cheaper than bol.com
16,99!
That's cheaper than the usual 19,99 (which I paid at bol.com)

Oh, well, Bol.com can have my 3 euros of profit

Here in Switzerland all shops I checked have July 20th as a release date.

I think it will really come out the 20th. It's a friday which makes sense and IIRC the original Civ4 was out sooner in Europe than in the US and I was one of the first to get it:

Ahh, the memories!

Rince

yes, i remember that :D

in austria, germany and switzerland we had the game a few days before the rest of the world...

maybe maybe??... now i have to go to my beloved gamestore round the corner!

When I ordered several weeks ago with our biggest game retailer (I assume anyway), it was July 20th and to my knowledge it still is. Price was quoted as AU$50 (~US$43). I'm in Australia btw. I thought I was lucky but now I learn there's a guy down here getting it on the 18th! Unbelievable!:D

Isn't that a bit... expensive?
As mentioned before the game is available at around 27 Aussie-dollars. I paid 31 Australian dollars (20 euro).

What is making me nervous is that Amazon.de and Okaysoft.de have suddenly pushed back the release date to the 27th  . Bol.de still says it will be the 20th though...
I think I should consider suicide :nuke: ( don´t tell me that I have no life, I know that too well ;) ) . One week before release, my laptop melts down so I won´t be able to play it via LAN with my gf and then... BTS was my only hope of coping with reality and getting a rest from trying to attain my degree  .

I don't know whether to be happy or jealous for everybody in Europe/Australia. Everything here in North America is still pointing for a release next week.

only 15 Euro in Italy??
can this be true?

on amazone.de you have to pay 30 Euro
That's far too much.
I paid 20 euro's and it's not the cheapest Dutch online store (bol.com), so 15 to 20 euro is more of the normal price.

There must be some cheaper German webshop? :)

You can make use of the "Tiefstpreisgarantie" at Amazon.de in order to get the lowest prices. When you see a retailer (on- or offline) where "Beyond the Sword" costs less than at Amazon you can report that to amazon and you will get the difference creditet.

The cheapest price in germany i have seen so far is at bol. de at around 24 €.

See here for Amazon's price garantee rules.

That's odd. Bol.com (The Dutch Bol) is 4 euro's cheaper.

Trust me, a game/expansion like this would never be released at AU$27 in Australia - that just sounds far too cheap, and frankly customers can easily afford it and happily pay that much. It doesn't bother me though really, as this and Civ 4 are the only games I've bought for the past 3 or 4 years. If anything it's underpriced considering the value I squeeze from it! :)

The higher price here could be due to any number of factors - some of which I wouldn't really understand. For one, the gaming retail market here is not so competitive (I suspect) as in Europe or the States so generally game prices will be a little higher and presumably even moreso on game releases.

Moreover, it is in a shopfront which would have higher overheads (costs) than most internet-based traders so I would expect a higher sale price than from, say, Amazon or bol.com etc.

How can this be happening when there has been no gold announcement? Can anyone confirm BTS Gold status?

Man, I hope it's going to be here soon. I'm quakeing in my boots in anticipation...

Yeah, the price will be AU$50. All expansion packs sold in Australia are generally AU$50 initially. I don't know where the AU$27 price came from. That would be a waste of time selling it in Australia for that price. Warlords cost AU$50 when it came out too IIRC.

The AU$27 comes from post #59 :)

I bought Civ Chronicles (Civ1/2/3/4 + cardgame) for a bit less than AU$50 (€29,95), so I'd doubt an expansion would cost that price.
But mind you, I ordered it online, I didn't go to the shop (where it was €50,- ~AU$75,-).

I was looking at prices for civ4 vanilla before the weekend..

It seems the prices for new copies of civ4 vanilla and warlords is generally at least twice as high in US as they are in Europe currently... I wonder why?

I just had a look at the prices of Amazon.com for those games and they are outrageous ($38 for Civ4 and $28 for Warlords (against $24 and $18,-, CivChron is $41)).

Maybe because the rate of the dollar against the euro?

Or maybe it's something else? Higher game-tax in the US maybe? Or different post & packaging ratings?)

Or maybe there's a more competitive market in Europe? (which implies there might be a slight monopoly or price agreements in the US?)

Actually if i remember Conquests for civ3 in Australia came out for $29.99 AUD and it was the second expansion too! Maybe this will be a cheapie?? heheh that would be awesome!
