Elaboration of the point system?

A yellow card is for a non-point warning. The red card is for an "infraction", which carries points. Collect enough un-expired points, and there is an automatic ban.

We are still working out how many points each type of infraction should cost, and how many should result in an auto-ban. The only one we have definitely settled so far is 50 points and a perm-ban for ad-bots.

So as long as you make sure to let your points expire before committing too many infractions, you can never be banned regardless of the severity of each infraction? That seems flawed. Also, does the fifty point rule count both expired and unexpired infractions?

ATM, this is still a works-in-progress. We'll see how it goes.

I hope that TF will post a near-final version so members can offer comments and suggestions.

It will take as long as it will take.

Though things are slow, because TF is probably very busy ATM and us mods have said all there's to say...

:whip:

I've noticed that often when a user is given a point for an infraction, there's no warning posted on the offending post at all so the people who reported said post have no way of knowing that their report has been acted upon.

Any post that is reported will be reviewed. With our new system, a post is created where we can all see the reported post, who reported it, and what the post was.

So report it and move on. We'll see it and take care of it. Keep in mind that because you think a post should warrant a warning/ban, doesn't necessarily mean that the moderators do as well.

On the other hand, if you see a post you think should be reported, go ahead and report it. Don't let yourself be guided by the thought that "someone else must have reported it, even if I don't see a warning". If nothing else, the report will go into a special discussion thread for that post, and may serve as a reminder to recheck the reported post/thread.

How about make it so atleast that little red/yellow card shows in the post to everyone?

NO! total loss of privacy! leave it at a mod's discretion, they know best. It's not like they're never going to alert you when someone's warned, they're going to use their best judgement; don't constrain them with unnecessary guidelines.

<snip>

Doesn't that risk having some impact on the reporters? Let's face it, on occasion people get steamed enough to flame, and if they see that some little goody-two-shoes has called in the heavies, they probably aren't going to be too pleased, and may be less than polite to said reporter. I like the anonymity!

I think the mods get to see who reported it, not us peasents

It's visible to whomever has access to the subforum the reported post discussion threads are created in. Since currently only mods/admins have access to the subforum, only mods/admins could see it. If, however, the thread was moved to a public forum then anyone could see it.

Have you EVER perma banned someone for various offences of months and months times? I mean will this 50 thing ever be reached?

Either your permabanned within 12 hours of joining our you learn how to swing with the big cats it seems.

We're very careful with permbans, and we don't like discussing ones that have happened in the past.

If people are unable to show that they 'learn' from their warnings and bans then a Perm-ban may be used after several failed chances for them to correct their posting style.

Is thier any limit to how many bans you get before a perma ban...

Because i can see myself never stop getting temp bans. Even if very infrequent.

I get warnings frequently.
