Eliminate Post Count!

One thing I like about the post count is that you can see wether a post is by someone making his/her first post. There's always somebody welcoming such a poster. It's a nice tradition that will disappear when you can't see whether it's their first or 10,000th post.

You can see their start date is the same month - that tells you if a poster is new.

Just hide it in the profile. That way, high-posters can just ignore the profile button and post-count lovers can look at their profile with each post. :)

I wouldn't mind hiding it either. Then, if you wanted, you could go to the memberlist and see who's the worst spammer around...

come on, If nobody cares, why all the postcount threads and why is everybody celebrating when reaching 1000 or 2000? of course it is not important, but we are mostly male here and men love statistics!

btw, wizard, I like your sig ;)

Thanks, Pellegrino. :)

BTW, I would rather have a hidden postcount for all, because it's weird but everytime I see someone with a higher postcount my one seems so small...:( I've tried to get rid of the feeling, but I can't...! :aargh:

How about 300? I want my custom avatar. :)

EDIT: Or can you just disable my personal post count? So it can be at, say, 300 and never grow past that no matter how many posts I make?

Well, with your posting amount you would get to 00 in a few days... So what would it matter? :p

oh but your postcount is small:D ;)

Could we just have it that those who like to see postcount can see it, and those who dont like it cant?

Well, thanks very much...

That wouldn't be so nice IMHO...

I really like the idea that the poscount could only be seen in the user profile window.

Yeah, hide it in the profile or so.

Besides, could we have "The Crazy Reversed Postcount Day" once in a while, like, say, get one post off the pc everytime you post?:D
Or even a 20-PCR for each post, to cut down the spam on such a day...
;):D

Or keep the 300 requirement, but hide the post counts so no one can see how many anyone else has.

Not that I care. I never even paid much attention to post count back when we couldn't even have custom avatars, and which avatar we had depended entirely on our post count. I didn't think it was important then, so it's even less so now.

Which would partially explain why I've been here nearly three years and have only just reached 900 posts. I can't seem to bother posting something when I just don't have anything to say. If I cared about post count, I'd probably spam now and then just to raise it up. That's why I think it's good that I don't pay any attention to it.

Exactly my feelings. I've been here since Sept. 2001 but have only around 950+ posts. I just can not see the point in posting if I have nothing worth adding to a thread.

On another note I've noticed my post count isn't going up? It's been stuck on 964 for a couple of posts now. I've been posting mostly in the Model Parliament sub-forum and my post count has not increased?

Have the Post Counts been deactivated, or do posts made in the Model Parliament not count as I've even noticed other people posting there do not increase their count either?

Parliament posts don't count.

Why not? It's one of the few sub-forums that I actually post on :(

Is there any reason for this?

Usually forum games (word assossiation thread, for example) don't add to postcount because otherwise it would be the equivilent of spam. Just look in the parliament and see how most are one-liners, particularily the voting thread (either the posts there are one line or long, no middle ground ;))

Okay, Word assossiation thread does increase postcount, but since everythread is deleted it's as if nothing changed.

I dont care much for post counts, however it would be great (for me at least :) ) if custom avatars were available to members based on a minimum length of membership rather than post count.

Imagine all those thousands 0 PC guys who have been here for a year then somehow found their way back into this site, upload their custom avs and then disappear...
