WESTERN WORLD

Western Mediterranean

In more peaceful events, Tanresan colonial efforts are met with success due to several Councilships giving tax breaks to larger families who would send their sons and daughters on the rafts to the distant reaches of Tanresios. The act is met by the Tanresan population experiencing a boom, and a holy day celebrating passed (not past) generations is anounced in several Councilships; a day upon which the soldiers from these Councilships refuse to fight, for religious reasons. The Councilship of Tangina is calling this the Day of Tannis white peace. The war in Barber has seen the Mareas worshippers respecting this holy day, which has eased tensions greatly.

A forge in eastern Tanresios has seen the greatest of accidents: wood destined to heat iron in the next batch of achullo heads fell into a pot of molten iron. The forge apprentice, not wanting his master to find out and unable to pick it out himself, stirred it in, hoping it would burn up. This resulted in a stronger metal, which the master named for his wife, Estelle.

In the Bascland Union, as Tanresan coin arrived in the city of Bilbao to free the Councilship of Andorr, word of more rebellions in the south also arrived. The news was met with much disbelief on the part of the Council leaders in the city. As scouts arrived from the east anouncing more rebellions, the leaders turned a metaphorical eye to the new country of Andorr, and send spies and diplomats to these new sites of rebellion.

Several projects have been begun, deemed innapropriate due to the situation in the east, aimed at increasing the income of the Bascland Union as a whole- the re-routing of inland trade through the city of Bilbao itself, in an attempt to spread it's influence on the countryside and to it's neighbors, and to increase the income therein. The second of the projects takes advantage of the new Currencies adopted from their kin, the Tanresans, and is a series of Markets which will spread the wealth to the lower echelons of society (those not employed by the Councilships directly) and increasing the income of the country through taxing these markets.

In barber, as the war continues on all fronts, several peaceful projects are also initiated. In Barbers Tanros, investment into a trade route into the arid inland tribes is started, but is not expected to be finished any time soon, barring the end of the war. In the Mareas portions of the country, a road spanning the north african coast is begun, with the intention of making unifying the factions easier, and increasing their income.

The Brito-Gullic Kingdom recruits a massive army of 10 warbands, and use these to pursecute the Snake Mother worshippers that infiltrated their territory in the northlands, where the Avranti attempted to invade over the last few decades. Diplomats from the east arrive, bringing with them the traditions of a similar incarnation of Rios Gulli, known now as Rios Domi, whose followers are tolerant of the Avranti snake women. These people call themselves the Domi, though this could not have come at a worse time; Rios Gulli descended in the form of a great rock from the sky, landing outside the Gullic King's great hall. After much inspection by the priests of Rios Gulli, it is determined that the King has been chosen by Rios Gulli to ascend with her into the afterlife, and he is subsequently proclaimed the God-Monarch of the Gullic (and to a lesser, somewhat-forced extent, the Brito) people.

The (supposed) end of hostilities between the Brito-Gullic Kingdom and the Avranti results in the Avranti land occupied by the Brito-Gullic Kingdom being ceded to the latter, with Avranti troops being withdrawn.

Reist missionaries from the Domic Tribes spreading the word of Rios further stumble upon a different cult or sect of Reism called Gullic Reism. Peaceful exchanges are made between the two religions and countries, and the free flow of religious ideals (missionaries free to spread their religion in each country) results from this. It's a different story in the southeast, however, as the impressive Cyse Mountains (as they are supposedly called) act as a natural barrier to the Reist religion getting a foothold in the south, however several missionaries have made it through and contact has beem made with the country of the Cyseean Imperium.

The Domic Tribes develop a strong unit called the Domi Spearband, that utilizes tight formations of men armed with spears and walls of shields. Deemed the meatgrinder by the Domic Warbands that developped the technique, it is a mainstay of their new military.

At last, in the Avranti lands, the crisis in Brittany has passed, however not quite the way the Avranti hoped. The war did not go so well there- a relatively small number of Gullic forces led successful ambushes against the large Avranti army, destroying morale and the momentum the Avranti had built up. However, the construction of the city of Lünde in southeast Bretta heralds a new era of Avranti power. Cemented firmly in the Brettic isles with no sign of dissention, the Avranti lands there thrive.

Druidia's increasing influence in the southern parts of the Brettic isles has lead to the country transforming into Avalon, the land of the spirit. This sacred name has caused many immigrants and worshippers of Drudaism, and indeed, whole tribes, to join Avalon. The swift construction of a grand structure known as Stonehenge, a series of large stones hewn from the very farthest northern mountains of former Druidia, arranged in a pattern which would, over the course of centuries of fine-tuning, give the time of the year and day by the sun's rays falling into specific shadowed or dug out niches or pits along the ground surrounding the circle. Many in Avalon also believe it to have mystical connections to the spirits the Great Druid speaks to.

The Cyseean Imperium, after a lengthy survey, have decided upon the construction of a paved road system throughout central Italy, aimed at increasing the amount of internal trade that goes on throughout the Empire, and increasing their domestic income by almost 50%.

A slight side effect of the previous few decades' expansion is the obvious eventual rebellion of these subjugated farmers in northern Italy; a 300 strong army rampages the countryside, destroying or taking back crops and fields owned by the Cyseean Imperium, which has been unable to put up a defense of any sort; the Imperium was too afraid to let their small army leave the City of Cyse proper, lest it fall into the wrong hands.

A trade route opened with the Spartan Empire in the east also lead to an increase of Cyseean foreign income by 100%. Spartan amphorae and proxy-trading Cypriot wines and ores from Anatolia reach the Empire's boundless shores and much rejoicing is had in the streets through the Empire's and the Imperium's trading ability, or so says the Imperium to outsiders.

In the Phoolan Devi, as well as the recent involvement in the war in the west, see the construction of the city of Carthago halfway completed, with the immigrants pouring in from the fracturing state of the Barbers in the west and beyond, arriving with rumors of a great warmongering people from beyond the deserts of the west. As a trade route is established with the Spartan Empire, Sicilian and Grecian pottery are merged to create a large Urn, which aids greatly in expansion along the coasts in the northeast, in the areas the Phoolan call the Dalmlands.

Northern Europe

The Wovvolk way of life has surely changed (for the better) forever now. Their timely domestication of the common countryside Bear has lead to a great increase of income from the fields tilled by these mighty beasts, saving horse and woman alike many woman-hours of labor, and allowing the women who once worked the fields to focus on other things, such as combat training and the raising of their children.

Wovvolk recruitment of young Stoney men in the army from occupied lands in the south has halted, however many of those not long enough lived to remember non-Wovvolk times have joined the army, so long as they keep their worship private. Discrimination from the majority of True Wovvolk men (and women) in the army against these and other Norse minorities have caused much unrest in the east and far north of the country, however, and tension is in the air.

Norse stone crafters or "masons" in Norselk have put their skills to good, or better, use: the construction of many major fishing holes that dot the ice of the deep winter months in the cold northern lakes of the country, with the intention of increasing the food income of those selling their wares (fish) in the market towns that have sprung up on the Nordic coast.

With a third or more of their country occupied by the Wovvolken horde from the barren north, many young Stoners have joined the army, hoping to stop this threat before it becomes too great; many fear that threshhold has already been reached and passed; Stoners in the eastern holdings of Stoney have also opted to join the Wovvolken way of life just for this reason

Eastern Mediterranean

The civil war in the Three Scythias, that is, the tribes of Kalsoot, Izme and Jujya, saw the creation of the very first early warning system, not dependant upon horsemen or scouts riding with word of war: large towers built in treetops or atop high hills with fire pits on them, which would be set fire at the point which an opposing army became visible on the horizon, to alert other watchtowers along the way. A faction unsponsored by the major families of Scythia has become more and more powerful in the east and southeast, warranting Izmean investigation into the arisen tribes.

Things have cooled down in the Spartan Empire- more autonomy has been granted to the rebellious worshippers of Ilium in Anatolia, though the state claims worship of the Spartan Pantheon is still required. A minor rebellion in the province of Hellei near the Hellespont was put down through force, however, as the rebels had been armed by outside funds. The Spartan government is looking into this matter, but has no suspicions as of yet. These rebellions have led the Spartan Empire to send explorers far north along the unexplored coasts, however, and they have met the fractured and broken Scythian states there. Contact has been made but no major diplomacy has yet taken place.

Cypriot sanitation can only go so far when expanding- several botched attempts at using this technology to influence locals into joining the Cypriot Empire, oddly enough, have backfired and resulted in the immediate dismissal of talks between the villages in question and the Empire. Diplomats mentioned "... insulting them a little too much."

Aneb-Hetch emerges as one of the major economic powers of the Eastern Mediterranean (and possibly the entire world) with their opening of two more very major trade routes and the expansion of already lucrative colonies in Africa and Arabia. Merchants working out of the Nile Delta have started engraving trade Amphorae with simple pictographs that represent what is being sent where; a simple "writing" technology has been developped in Aneb-Hetch, which will greatly benefit their trade, and every aspect of the lives of the people in the lower kingdom.

The Raliacki army marched along the Nile river towards the Nile Dynasties in the far south, expecting little to no resistance in the fishing villages and farming towns in their path. This sloppy management of annexation and advancement lead to the far over-stretching of their small military; the Nilese warbands that had arrived there to stop Raliacki expansion and raids into the independant territories there easily intimidated the Raliackan forces into a hasty retreat. An official reprimand from the Nile Dynasties against violent expansion in the Nile Valley region has been issued to the fledgling kingdom of Raliacki, and expansion has halted.

The Nile Dynasties are met with a new acceptance of their northern neighbors- the recent trade route established with the distant Cypriot Empire has seen the opening of the wider world to the people in the isolated Empire. Increased demand for distant, foreign, unknown luxuries and resources have given the government reason for more trade routes in the immediate future.

Resulting from the failed attempt at a coup over the last ten years, the Lyscovian Sultanate met the slow transition into an imperial sovereign over semi-autonomous city states and Sultanates, with the heir to the city-state of Lyrsella residing at it's head. This was capped off with the Charter of Lyrsella, a code of conduct issued by and agreed upon the former Sultanate of the Lyscovians and the various rebel warlords opposing him. The warlords capitulated and agreed upon this semi-stifling charter, only for the mutual protection of their estates and towns throughout the land of the Lyscovia.

In addition to this the Lyscovian Empire has funded the construction of many hill forts along the Imperial Highway, designed with the intent of preventing further coups against His Imperial Majesty Abdhul IV, the then-current emperor of the Lyscovian Empire.

The shattered state of the Pontian Empire has led to the dismissal of most of the military, shortly before a bloody coup resulting in the further destruction of the ruinous city of Pontus. A general by the name of Garr the Ruthless has taken control, and leads his tiny army from the ruins of Pontus against the Tabrizd people in a bloody genocidal vendetta.

Likewise in Tabriz, with the failure of the initial government to stop the destruction of the city of Tabriz or indeed stop the insurrection against the Tabrizd people still in the former Pontian Empire by the ethnic cleansing going on there; a military dictatorship has taken control peacefully, as the autocrats still in power stepped down, after many of them were found dead in the streets. The war between Tabriz and the Pontians in the west continues, but it seems the countryside hs been too burnt and sewn with salt to provide sustenance for a hundred years.

EASTERN WORLD

As civil war tears at seams of the Kettick Empire, the religious strife that seemed like an Achilles' heelto the Empire seems to subside slowly. The then God-Emperor Dorsani Nard's (then known as the greatest Bedfellow of the Paladin caste) sudden death without a clear heir leaves the Mayors and Paladins alike wondering what is to happen. Pretenders and distant cousins demand their ascendance, with Mayors pushing for more localized control under God, but not under the Church's thumb. However the Paladins are pushing in the opposite way- another Puppet for the Church into power. Within this strife seems an odd calm of the court remaining intact, with the Imperial Palace rising above the capital city of the Empire.

The Taming of the Elephant continues at a painfully slow pace in the Kutak Tribes, however the government is focusing more on other troubles- a sect of violent worshippers of Ushna (calling themselves the Ushna-Ki) are proclaiming the coming end of the world attempts to take control of the city of Kuti from within, however the city garrison is able to put the rebellion down. The sect has been discovered to have strong following outside of the city as well, in the mountains in the far northwest.

The tribes that had aligned themselves with the seemingly-powerful Kutak Empire of the last half-century begin having second thoughts, as rebellions going uncontrolled and heathens going unchecked throughout the countryside are never a good sign. Several of these tribes have begun proclaiming their sovereignty from the Empire as a whole, however much of the population remains loyal, for now.

Fed up with Tairon aggression and the boycotting of trade in the last century and a half, the Qing Empire sends armies to their southern provinces, recently overtaken "accidentally" by a Taironese army on routine patrol. An expedition, not really expecting any success but with the intention of sending a message to the Tairon Emperor, is launched against the city of Tai on the island of Hainan. In the north, the agriculture takes shape and increased the domestic output of the Empire, and the taxes therein.

A surprise attack on the capital city of Tai on the sacred island of Hainan is met with a full declaration of war against the Qing empire on the Qing mainland. Invasion is likely to be a repercussion of this within half a century, although the growing economy and potential manpower of the Qing have given real worries to the Taironese royalty.

The Monarchy in Arkital seems to be settling in quietly, with the Grand Structures raising ever higher, along with the dreams of their builders, masters and laborers. A series of short campaigns against unarmed farmers and fierce warlords alike on the Yangste river give the new monarchy plenty to deal with, however, as these lords refuse to quit.

Military Events

Barber Civil War

The Barber conflict was the first of many with multiple theatres of conflict. On the Tanros coast, where most of the fighting took place, saw 3,000 Mareas aligned soldiers and 1,700 aligned with the Tanros.
Underestimation of the Tanresan military was the single mistake the Mareaic force made. As the warbands of the Mareas and Tanros fought in ragged lines, 3 Eschada of cavalry, that is, 30 horse-mounted infantrymen supposedly trained in horseback warfare, fell upon the unexpecting Mareaic and Phoolan warbands, and caused utter panic in them.

Scouts, in force, armed with large jagged spears and sharp metal staves? Barbaric, but somehow the Tanresans had made it work. The Echada were dispatched as they were engulfed by warriors as a second warband merged with the first.

2 Tanrean warbands seemingly armed to the teeth approached the battle line following these Cavalrymen, and made steady work of the Mareaic and Phoolan warbands. A hasty retreat was called by the Mareaic general, though not before hand to hand combat between himself and the head Caul of the enemy was initiated, and won. On the whole, the battle had gone the way of the Tanresios-aligned Tanros army, though not by far.

Far in the south, in the central mountain spine of Barber, a smaller force met, and clashed. Positional combat is the name of the game in mountainous terrain. The Mareaic force simply had the advantage. 900 Mareic warriors and 1,200 Tanrosan and Tanresan warriors clashed in the jagged foothills of the Barber mountains. The Tanrosan general was also killed early on, which lead to the Tanresan one taking over, which lead to chaos. Shouting orders in two languages to his underlings, inneficiency was also the downfall of the Tanros army there.

Stoney War

The Stoney war is another of several conflicts with many different theatres of combat: A hitch in the long-standing tradition of Wovvolk soldiers planning for every eventuality, was when the Wovvolken Warlord failed to account for a larger assault at the Wovvolk capital of Granae was one such theatre. 900 Nordic warriors from the coast descended upon the city in a great fury and captured it for the glory of Thor and his ilk, killing the 300 Wovvolk warriors left there to defend it and countless "

The other theatres met rather more success for the Wovvolken army: The occupation of the rest of the undefended Stoney countryside, and the siege of the Stoner capital of Stoney, or Johvi, in the Wovvolken language.

The Siege of Johvi

The Wovvolken Horde, as the people of the city had deemed it, was nearly 6,000 strong. Before the western lands had fallen to the Horde, as many as 1,500 young Stoner men had been recruited, and they and their families had fled to the city of Stoney to await Ragnarok and the coming of the end. Supplies and nearly 1,000 more Norse reinforcements from the Stoney-controlled coasts had also bolstered their defenses and morale. Wovvolken drums beat in the cold spring evening, echoing around the valleys surrounding the town.

The entire remaining might of the Nordic country of Stoney waited silently in the large hill-fort that was the Stoney capital. A massive thunderstorm from the east brought hope to their hearts; and with the knowledge that Thor was watching them, they ate and drank into a stupor for several nights.

The distant torches of the Wovvolken camps dotted the valleys as the rain battered down for weeks. 4,000 Norse warriors took to the field. The drums had beat for days now from the valleys, and the Norse commander decided that letting the Wovvolk pick the day to fight was foolish. He had chosen a rainy day of thunderstorm, when his men would be at their best; when the Thunder gods of both peoples would be watching, competing.

The Wovvolk assembled opposite them; the battle had begun. Clarion trumpets and drums fought for superiority as the soldiers below did the same. Eventually, superior Wovvolken training and numbers would win the tide of the battle, with the Norse and Stoner forces being driven back into the city. Tar covered torches and severed lambs' heads were thrown into the city, burning and rotting the residents and buildings. Any who tried to escape were captured by the Wovvolken Horde, and kept as slaves or killed as public displays of superiority.

Mercy is for the weak.

War of the Three Scythias

In early 210, an army of 800 Jujyan soldiers under the general Henu Kalu marched on over the Scythiac river and onto Kalsoot. This army was repulsed quickly, and the Kalsoot army, numbering well over a thousand survivors, met chase. As the last Kalsut warband disappeared over the horizon chasing the routing army, another Jujyan army under the general Haikut Jujyat landed on the coast near the city of Kalsoot. They captured it, pillaged it for supplies and wealth and, like its former occupants, started the long march northwest.

Shortly thereafter, an Izmean force crossed the Scythiac river far in the north, and then marched south, pillaging towns in Jujya. They met the Jujyan army under Kalu then, which was busy blockading Kalsut attempts at crossing the river. The Izmean and Jujyan forces clashed, with the Izme winning, but at a high cost.

The Kalsut army had crossed the river by then, and annihilated the tiny Izmean force. Believing themselves the Victors, they marched into the undefended city of Jujya, and celebrated the victory by looting most anything worth looting.

The Jujyan army under Haikut Jujyat then arrived at the Scythiac river, and realized their blunder. The Kalsoot and Jujyans had switched the territories they controlled; however the Jujyans could now easily control most of the empty Izmean lands as well.

Ushna-Ki in Kuti]/B]

The First Kuti Rebellion was one of the smaller in the long history of the Kutak Empire, however the impact was one of the greatest. A large mob of radical Ushna worshippers had assembled in the main square of the grand city of Kuti, their leaders preaching the death of the Empire and the swallowing of the world by Ushna in the coming decade. Hours into the (peaceful) ceremony as the city garrison had gathered, fearing such an assembly, the mob turned violent at their leaders word. The initial garrison of 600 warriors had been overrun fairly quickly by the mob of thousands, and the rioting and looting spread to other portions of the city.

Days of fighting, and the Kutak armies from the distance tribe-provinces of the Empire finally arrived at the city to quell the growing unrest in the unaffected portions of the city, and the bloodbath that was the rest. 1,200 warriors in solid groups of 30 took to the city streets and slowly beat the revolters to the northern gate, where they were surrounded by a shield wall and stoned to death. The leaders were the last to fall, in the centre of the massive gathering, and took their own lives, screaming for Ushna.
