Hmm, I guess there are 2 missing turns in my report. Probably "Not Much" worker builiding turns which I forgot to record. I'll calculate the ending year in advance in the future.

I am asking to be dropped from this SG. I've yet to play, so there is no damage done. And seeing as I was skipped, it was as if I was never there.
I apologies for this change, but I am currently in 5 SGs and RL is going to increase and I'll need to lighten my load.

My appologies

SaaM

I'll have to drop for a while. I estimate 2 weeks from day of post, and will make *sure* to post a message upon return. Until then... Skip me too.

Notes
I think we've had it - just overmatched in production
We could try and hang on to our core cities, but what's the point? We've nowhere to go.

The save is
> here <

Ted

I took a look at the save to see our situation, and just decided to play out the turns to stabilize the borders. I hope you don't mind the temporary swap in turn order, and I went only 7 turns to make up for going 13 turns last time.
---------------------------

280 AD (0) Move troops to exposed cities and swap a granery to a spearman in Seattle.

IBT- An Egyptian Swordsman kills one of our spearman which was headed for Boston.

(1) We produce 2 spearman and kill the redlined Egyptian swordsman. 2 spearmen enter Seattle, but Egypt has 4 swordsmen ready to attack next turn. We pay 8gpt to Egypt for peace, without giving up any more cities. Boston swaps to the Forbidden Palace and Chicago swaps to walls.

300 AD (2) Egypt withdraws troops from out territory. New York and Seattle switch to walls (strengthening border defenses.)

(3) Egyptian troops continue to withdraw from out territory. San Francisco produces spearman -> Harbor. Houston produces temple -> courthouse.

(4) Sell around the WM, but lose 1g in the process.

(5) Atlanta is set up as a spearman factory to shore up the defenses and replace the swordsmen which are defending certain cities. Egypt has entered the Middle Ages.

(6) Boston grows to size 7 and riots, luxuries are raised to compensate. Our remaining swordsmen are gathered into 2 "zone defense" stacks to cover the border.

350 AD (7) Not much. We have 15 turns left on minimum science to Republic and 16 turns left until Boston builds the Forbidden Palace. Both of these events will greatly help our income which might allow us to catch up with the rest of the world. Zululand is falling behind Egypt, and still lacks the Republic, so we might be able to sell them Republic for a good profit if we can hold out.

The Save (you are up now Gengis Khan, but ignore my mislabeling of the save within the zip file which says "bc" rather than "ad")

em6_350ADtact.jpg

We are alone on an island with a Furious Egypt who will attack us again in the future, so maintaining a solid defensive network is important. All of our border cities either have walls or have reached size 7 for the +50% defensive bonus which makes the defending spearman as strong as pikemen. I have gathered all spare swordsmen into two stacks labeled A and B which can reach any of our border cities within 2 turns for a quick response to any aggression (continue to add troops/catapults to these stacks). This zone defense should allow us to survive an attack by superior forces long enough to make peace in the event of another war. As powerful as Egypt is right now, any idea of an offensive war is probably out the window until Cavalry, so focus on building more workers and infrastructure in the remaining cities.

Although we are a bit boxed in by Egypt, 10-12 cities worth of land will be plenty to keep up on technology once the rest of the world is known. By the time we are done expanding, we will have more land than the Zulu, and in the long run higher quality land (removal of jungle). Also, we have a virtual monopoly on insence (except the one Egypt captured at Philadelphia), so we have plenty of trade potential once Navigation is discovered.

Sorry guys,

Yesterday was a real bad day. This game felt like the final straw.

I'm glad you stepped in Zwingli. The only tactic I could see was to try and hang on to the core area until we could afford peace. Unfortunately it didn't come on my turn so I was really down.

Thanks

Ted

Ted,
The situation did look rather grim on the first turn with ~10 Egyptian swordsmen bearing down on the core cities, but fortunately a small improvement in the defensive situation convinced Egypt to take gold rather than one of our cities for peace.

Swapping the turn order may have caused some confusion, so here is the updated roster.

Erik Mesoy (Temp drop)
Genghis Khan <- Up Now
Zwingli (Swapped)
CivGeneral <- On Deck
