Hmmm. For some reason the site isn't responding when I try to upload the save. I'll try again in the morning before work.

With two new contacts, it looks like we are back in the game, but we have another difficulty to overcome.
Medieval Curse: We must stay in Monarchy throughout the Middle Ages. The King is a holy person and can cleanse places, cast out demons, break curses etc etc. (no in-game King though.)
We have to revolt to Monarchy during the next turn according to the varient rules.

We are currently on course to complete 40 turn research on the Republic soon, so hopefully we will at least get some trading value out of it, but as soon as we obtain the Monarchy tech we should revolt (we have 1 turn anarchy as a Religious civ). I guess we will have to focus on the lower branch of the tech tree towards Millitary tradition and try our luck at warfare again.

CivGeneral is up (Since he has been out awhile, I will send a PM once the save is posted)

Yea I remembered that too, unfortunatly we don't have monarchy. And to make matters worse we've been reserching Republic for the last 25 turns or so. We need to trade for Manarchy ASAP!!

Here is the correct link to the save. I have sent a PM to CivGeneral to inform him that he is up.

Edit: PM not sent, CG's message box is full. Probably we should wait 24 hrs for him to see this and pick up as usual.

Hi guys,

Just to let you know that I'm away this weekend from the 1st Aug to the 4th Aug inclusive.

Please autoskip me until the 5th Aug.

regards

Ted

Doh!!

I knew i was having problems with the save.......... Although that wasn't the problem I was having last night.

Good Luck CivGeneral!!!!

410 AD (0) My goals for this turn are to get Monarchy before the first Middle Ages tech according to the varient rules, and to shore up the economy for tech purchases. We can't currently afford Monarchy, but we have Republic due in 9 turns and the Zulu lack Republic for a potential trade.

More contacts will reduce tech prices, so:

Buy Contact with Azteca from India for WM + 83g
Buy Contact with Japan from India for 90g
Buy Contact with Babylon from India for WM + 83g

420 AD (1) Start moving workers out of the corrupt south towards the northen cities.

430 AD (2) Seattle worker->market. New York worker->worker. San Fran switches to Marketplace.

(3) Washington galley->market. Chicago Catapult->settler.

(4) Atlanta swordsman->spearman. Buffalo whips a temple.

460 AD (5) New York worker->worker. Buffalo temple->corthouse.
Buy a slave from Zululand for 28g + WM.

IBT- Zulu offers wines for insence + 1gpt. I change the deal to wines for insence + 3g.

(6) Lux tax lowered to 10%

(7) Atlanta spear->market.

490 AD (8) San Fran market->aquaduct. Chicago settler->market. Saint Louis warrior->temple

IBT- Renew Peace with Egypt on even terms and we get 8gpt back. We learn Republic and I trade Republic to Zululand for Monarchy + 3g (using "Big Picture"). We revolt and become a Monarchy ready for the Middle Ages [dance].

500 AD (9) Our income actually goes down a bit in Monarchy due to support costs, and I turn off science in order to buy technology.

Trading:
Buy Engineering from India for WM + 20gpt + 122g.
Buy Monotheism from Azteca for Engineering + 4gpt + 3g.
Buy Feudalism from Zululand for Engineering + 18g + WM.

It took almost every penny we had but we got 3 techs for the price of 1 (almost).

510 AD (10) Washington and Boston grow to size 8, and our income goes up to 7gpt (from 0gpt) as the extra monarchy police keeps more people working.

We are ahead of the Zulu by Monotheism (you can trade it to them for 19g + WM if needed), even with Azteca, and behind the rest of the civs by Theology.

I forgot to fire a tax collector in a southern city and switch the city from wealth to a temple (the extra income was necessary for the brokerage). Also, there is a settler in a galley headed for the uninhabited southern island to grab some land. If we can get the iron resource on that island, there are 2 civs on the other continent which lack iron who will pay a lot for it.

The Save
Gengis Khan, you are up again :crazyeye: but feel free to take your time with it since we are on a short roster until Ted and Erik get back.

Great job with trades & getting us into Monarchy that quickly!

Got it, will play later.

I'm back, what's the roster?
Confused.

Welcome back Erik,

Here is the roster as it currently stands:

Erik Mesoy
Genghis Khan
Zwingli <- Just Played
CivGeneral (Still here but has been missing)
TedJackson (Out until August 5)

OK, got it unless CG claims it.

As King Erik comes into his reign, his supernatural powers and his stereoscopic apparatus (eyes) reveal that a demon must surely be plaguing the town of St. Louis, for all its people are hiding in the town. He wanders the plains, and the people feel they may work again.
While he is there, some advisors stumble over his partly ilelgible notes made during his coronation ceremony:
Too few ... (The illegible word here may be cities).
Philadelphia ... Egyptian hands.
D... ..it.
What happened ............. sion of Egypt? They ... all the swords.
Southern land. ...ched by Egypt and Zulu.
New York can be set up for ...-farm every 2 turns.

The advisors in question then decided it would be best to let the King be a figurehead, and govern themselves. When the King returned with plans for a war on Egypt, they allowed him to order military, while planning a war on the Zulu.

Out of the story...
I disbanded our catapults, seeing as were paying 26 gpt in unit support. I disbanded some other regulars too. Washington was too high size, so i put it on break-even food and higher shields, stopping the choppers and setting them to mining.

Boston builds cathedral after FP. Washington gets cathedral too. I dread to think what our happiness would have been in Rep w/ higher lux tax and higher unit support. But on turn 3, we are down to 18 gpt unit support.
The Babs built Sistine fairly early in my turn. I was about to declare on the zulu in 580, when I realized we have 8 turns left on a deal witht hem. I got embassies in Egypt and Iroqouis, and built a city in the southern isle. I played to 650 to even the numbers. Next to 750. TRY to have culutre buildings built by then, years go sloooooww after 1750, and we want the 1000-year double. We are raoding to horses near St. Louis. Look at New York for an idea of the worker farm. The workers are to be merged into other cities to get them above size 6.
And remember that we are Religious.

A new King has been chosen.

With recent skips, swaps, and returns perhaps the order has become confusing. Here is the current roster:

Erik Mesoy
Genghis Khan <- Up Now
Zwingli <- On Deck
CivGeneral
TedJackson (Out until August 5)

The economy looks to be in better shape now, but I would have kept a few more regular troops around to act as military police to help the happiness situation (3 troops per city make people content in Monarchy). The defensive situation on the Egyptian border should improve when knights or cavalry are available for mobile defense.

I knew procrastinating would get people back;)

Got it.

Sorry guys I know I've been bull****in. I played, & will post results after work.
