Emperor Domination

Interesting choice Galileo. It is unlikely that alex will attack one of our stacks with a big stack making the combat promotions better than barrage. We can hold off on building more archers than we need (i.e. one per city).

We should also have chariots in our stacks. Just because alex can build phalanxes doesn't mean he won't build axes. I do realize that a chariot at +100% vs. an axe is 8 which is the same as an elf, however, chariots are cheaper. Thus, one per stack.

Did I do that? Aargh. Sorry, I'll have it up in a few hours....

We've got 3 archers and 2 chariots now, I believe, plus one or two more warriors than the strict minimum. I'm a fan of trying to get a chariot or two to Sentry, by killing wounded defenders. They stay useful all game. Most of the cats should be CR, but giving one Combat promotions to ward off phalanxes is reasonable. I often wind up with one or two cats at Combat1/Medic, as well.

~8 Catapults + 3 Elephants? They'd be built in about 12 turns, in position by about 15 -- should be before he gets longbows, I hope.

great. That means I could be one the one rolling the dice on attacking. Better double the number of units.;)

re: cottaging the capital...since we put the GL there, wouldn't we want to farm the capital and try and run as many scientists as possible when we are able to run caste system? we have solid production in the capital meaning that we would still get the production boost from bureaucracy...

If we're not going to cottage up Berlin, we should probably find a new capital. It's unfortunate the GL is where it is, but at least we built it. Athens should be suitable to run lots of scientists plus build the national epic. It's not ideal that our GPP for a GS will be spread out, but it's not a killer either.

I simply think the commerce bonus exceeds the hammer bonus in terms of value when it comes to bureaucracy. Oxford should probably also go in the capital and Athens can simply serve as a GPF

I am not sure that combat to cats is a good idea. Alex is agressive so he will have C2 Phalanxes. It gives 33% odds to survive the battle. We can win this war only by our production advantage.

I was talking about for defense. If a C2 Phalanx attacks a C1 Cat, it has worse odd than attacking an elephant. So making one cat with combat promotions to defend against any attacks meant to kill the elephants might work. Attacking cities, we bombard then suicide 1 or 2 cats with collateral promos then attack with CR Cats.

^^^

I think we should farm GSs until we control Athens and then switch to cottaging the capital and Athens as GPfarm. We need GSs for phil, paper, ed, possibly lib, pp, chem...

I see this game in black colors while we do not have Iron ...

edit: We could involve Han to this war, even give him horses and make use of his powerful UU. We can send some horse archer units to help Han from the South, while Cats and Elephants will attack from the north. Barbarian city is well defended now. We should prioritize Alex Iron city, to make use of Crossbows. Or just research another tech.

So am I up or is lasombra up?

I've finished my turnset but I need to post the report. I didn't have the time yesterday to do a write up. Overall, it went ok but we're definitely looking uphill. This isn't how my games on monarch go at all.
