Empire Total War Random Question Thread

I was given a copy of Empire (retail store package with DVDs), but I cannot get it installed. It opens the install splash screen and after I choose "install", I get a "Failed to run install script" message every time I try.

You need to do it via steam, I had this problem.

Install steam, open it, Games>Activate Product on Steam IIRC.

Thanks. I activated the game through steam, but it still failed to install even using their special "install from discs" route.

Correct. Same error message; "failure to run install script".

So, I haven't played it in ages but noticed there was at least one patch or two since last time I played.

I was wondering if you still get 10 random war declarations before the first 5 years have passed?

Asking 'cause I was thinking of buying a new game, didn't see anything interesting on the market right now, and thought of giving ETW another chance...

I don't but I think the diplomacy bug is still there... I can create peace with other nations after a war fairly easily, but the United Provinces won't... not sure if this is the same bug or a different one.

But overall the game play has improved and the AI is less aggressive, but still aggressive.

I lol'd at the page of Amazon reviews on E:TW.

I honestly thought that it was just a small group of hardcore gamers and Encyclopedia Dramatica that really thought the game is terrible right now. Guess not.

1: Why is every country declaring war on me, despite good relations and or no border
2: Why the hell am I being forced to fight (Despite aformentioned good relations maintained) Russia, Austria, Netherlands, Bavaria, Poland and internal strife all at once? is there a way for me to get them all to piss off?

This is why I stopped playing the game (see post from last week). I guess it's not fixed. Unless that's another awesome feature of a "competitive AI".

I do not see how you guys are still having this problem of the AI declaring war on you within 10 turns or every time you touch borders...

In my game the AI rarely declares war on me... in most cases I have to force them to declare war, and is usually in my advantage.... (this is on hard difficulty.) Steam has me updated on the latest patches and versions so I don't know if this is the problem or not... also, I bought this game when it came out. (Special Forces edition if it makes a difference.)

The only exception is a very annoying United Provinces, who despite being enemies with just about every nation on earth and at war with them is still alive and thriving, despite a destroyed navy, tattered economy and war ravaged population struggling to field enough men for the army.

I started a new game as Great Britain, we were allied with Portugal who fell the same turn Spain declared war on them, before I could get a reinforcing army there. But regardless, my army arrived 2 turns later and reconquered Portugal, but now I cannot free them from my rule. Is there some way I can give Sovereignty to Portugal and continue my conquests without leaving an occupying force behind?

Also, Empire has changed greatly since the last time I played, I was mildly surprised, fought back invasions from France in Ireland and Scotland. It is getting enjoyable especially now that I do not have to fight every small garrison, most just surrender when they see the might of my army bearing down on them. Though there are still some issues with diplomacy, such as Sweden demanding Scotland in exchange for peace despite the fact that they have yet to defeat my navy or army in battle.

You might try encouraging a revolution and letting the rebels win.

I play with the "A proper empire: Terra incognita" mod and it improves the game substantially.

I am playing the Road to Independence on hard difficulty for a challenge and found that it was far more challenging on 1 condition.

I cannot recruit new regiments, no matter how many regions I take from the British, I have all 8 original colonies, from Maine to Georgia, all taken with my starting army and now I cannot complete my required 15 lands to achieve victory because I cannot build a new army for some reason. My original army is now whittled down to 2 minutemen regiments, 1 dragoon, 1 Provincial Cavalry and 2 artillery batteries. Each of these regiments are extremely experienced and can whip any army in North America with ease as long as they are not numerically overwhelming.

I honestly have no idea how I even survived this long with only 1 army. A poor one at that, and 2 powerful British armies. In 10 years those two British armies were crushed at great cost to me and left the road south open.

Is there any reason why I cannot recruit any units? (I have the most advanced barracks available. My military tech tree is on even footing with most European nations. My only guess is that I do not have the people to fill up the armies.

(I will check my population and get back to you.) Also the year is 1808, I have until 1825 to get 7 more provinces before the deadline. So any advice is greatly appreciated.

Also, my treasury is at 18,000 I have a military alliance with France and Spain, managed to avoid war with the Cherokee by paying them 60,000 plus alot of agriculture techs. Thankfully, the British in Canada have left my northern regions alone, and France has done me an enormous favor by destroying the British fleet in North America and keeping my trade lanes open.

Here is a pic. My population is approaching 1 million.
