Enders Game 1: The Training Game Competition - Team 2

This is Rubber Jello's wife. He is in the hospital and is unavailable for a few days. Please skip.

Stuck as a Mac: No we do not have Heroic Epic. We should NOT build it by hand, as it'd be far more productive to just build cossacks. We could rush it with a leader, but with our current leader it'll be more productive to rush Newton's.

the Roster:

Stuck as a Mac <--- Up now!

Oh and do not make any further ongoing deals with Egypt. We will likely want to attack them in not so long. Also, the Ottomans have Sun Tzu's in Bursa. We may want to declare on China and after wiping them out declare on the Ottomans and get Bursa. Sun Tzu's is very important in a war monger's victory. One of our key aims is to stop Greece or the Ottomans reaching the industrial age, as they would each have a chance to obtain nationalism and thus bring rifles into play. We probably do not want to sell any technologies from now on, as we want to slow our enemies down as much as possible, and keep them away from rifles. As long as there are no riflemen in play, our cossacks will overrun all.

-Sirp.

Yes definitely rush Newton's in Moscow. It's our highest science city. Try to get all techs in 4 turns if possible, don't sell them to anyone once you get them. Proceed to get steam power, and then stop researching after that. (No we do NOT want industrialization and factories; factories are useful only if you're planning for the game to go on at least triple the time it takes to build a factory, and we're not planning on that).

Finish England off asap. If you play your cards right they shouldn't last more than a few turns.

Egypt would be our next preferred target, but we have ongoing deals with them, so yes, use the time to go for China and then the Ottomans instead.

By the end of SaaM's turn, England and China should be history.

-Sirp.

It's your choice :)

The best option is probably the Epic, for more leaders.

Basically GLs aren't that useful to us anymore, I often use them to build an army or simply to rush a cossack at this stage!

-Sirp.

Back from the Hospital here...but probably no good to anyone for the next 24 hours or so. But I should be up to a turn in the next 24 - 48 hours.

I apologize if my absence caused a long delay. I talked my wife through the posting process here over the phone. The hospital refused to let me keep my laptop!  (like they wanted me to concentrate on getting well or something like that! :p )

What a good sport she was to do that for me! :D

(And yes...the "Do it with Jello" in her post was quite....errrr..."ironic"!!!)

Not a problem Rubberjello; it hasn't delayed anything at all. Stuck as a Mac hasn't finished his turn yet, so we didn't have to skip you at all.

Hope you get better soon!

-Sirp.

Dr. Stalinlove or How I Learned to Stop Being an Angry Little Penguin and Love the Cossack
IT: We have a couple empty cities and our defense is lacking. Still, I push enter.
T1: We discover Theory of Gravity. Start on Magnetisim (due in 4). Peter the Great, a man of science, becomes so excited over the prospect of learning that he rushes to Moscow and sacrifies himself for a Univeristy ran by Sir Issac Newton. I blitz York with a 4/4 Cossack. It wins, takes 2 damage. I send an elite to dislodge a 3/3 musket. Takes 3 damage and reveals a 4/4 pike. I send a 4/4 cossack to do thatone in. Cav is redlined, but..
We take York and sieze the Colossus. 10 resistors. I send the army to heal in London and begin moving towards Canterbury
IBT: We see an Enlish Calvary. It defeats a redlined Cossack we had waiting outside of York. Celts and Egypt sign alliance against China. Same English calv that killed us is killed by Egypt. Newtons is done and Moscow starts a Musket.
T2: I start starving London. I send a cossack down to Brighton Beach. Here it finds bunch of old people in sandals and socks holding spears. I begin to attack Canterbury. 5/5 cav v 3/3 musket. Wins, 2 damage. 4/4 cav v 3/3 musket- looses, reveals Pike. 3/5 cav v 4/4 pike- looses.
IBT- Eng calv defeats cossack in York. Egyptian calv defeats it, produces GL :( :( :(
T3: 4/4 Cossack v 4/4 pike- wins, is redlined. 4/4 vs 3/3 musket. Wins, no damage. 3/5 vs 4/4 pike. Wins, no damage, takes city w/ 2 slaves and Magellans! :woot: 9 resistors. I have one cossack blitz spearguarded Brighton. Wins, no damage, another spear.
IBT: Some other nations fight. Egypt may have softened our next target.
T4: London riots. Coventry, no where near any other city, flips to England. I'll send down a cossack to take it back. 3/3 musket v 4/4 cossack. Cossack looses. 4/4 cossack v 3/3 spear. Takes one damage, takes the city. Brighton. Home of old people in socks and sandals. 5/5 cossack (peter) v 3/3 longbow. wins. 5/5 cossack v 2/3 musket. Wins. On that cossack rode Stalin. Cossack renamed "Angry Little Penguin" (dont ask) 3/3 cossack v 3/3 musket. wins, no damage, promoted.
IBT: Egypt takes Leeds.
T5: Were industrious! And we roll... Medicine... Perfect when you intent to go further, but on a game with war.... I start research on Nationalism. The people plant some shrubbery in the palace. 4/4 cossack v 3/3 musket. Redlined, retreats. 4/4 v 2/3 wins. Takes city, does stuff to Liz which I wont go into. "We have destroyed the Strong English, Madame." Good. Oh Mao... (not yet, first massing troops). Just a check: Otto's lack Chem. After China, SaaM, after China. I rush a Xinjang musket due to Riders in the area. On the way past Hastings, I notice an Egyptian Calvary Army. (See IBT T3)
T6: Stalin is getting closer to Moscow. He is soon to exit Egypt. With the Cossack army at 8/13 health and several Cossacks parked outside of Canton, I piss of Mao and declare war. 4/4 cav v 3/3 pike. wins, 2 damage. 4/4 v 3/3- redlined, retreats. 4/4 v 3/3- see other cav. 4/4 v 2/3- ditto. 4/4 v 2/3. FINALLY we defeat it, take Canton.
IBT: Rider v 5/5 sword. Rider wins. Rider v musket. Rider wins. Rider killed by Egyptian cav.
T7: The Chinese protesters start and riot in Beijing. I run through the cities and stop and riots before they start. Stalin and Angry Little Penguin make it to Norwich. Army heads to do some damage, captures 3 slaves. All Cossacks are out of Egypt.
IBT: We loose three workers to China. Egypt handels some wandering Chinese units.
T8: Canton ends resistance, riots. 4/4 cossack v 3/3 pike- wins, 1 damage, takes Nanking and 2 slaves. ALP and Stalin are in Dover (is it just me or do those two sound like the title of a bad comedy?) 4/4 cossack v 3/3 spear. wins, 2 damage, takes city. China has one city left. I'm going to keep sending down Cossacks to prepare for an Otto Invasion (most likely wont happen on my turns, but to the next player, they're there.
T9: We see some Otto Knights, meaning they still lack the evil Siphai. WE MUST KILL THEM BEFORE THEY GET SIPHAI (I dont want to go against a 8.3.3) 4/4 cosack v 3/3 spear. 4/4 v 3/3. Wins. Takes city. "We have destroyed the Fragile Chinese, Prime Minister." NEXT!
IBT: All resistance ends. Greeks start Shakespeare's.
T10: 2 deals run out. Egypt is Industrial :( :ehoh: So is Greece. The good news is that Alex also drew Medicine. Angry Little Penguin and Stalin are in Spice Addicts. They can make it to Moscow next turn and build whatever it is they need to.
A note to the next player. There are 14 cossacks parked outside of the border of the Ottos. We have a near full health army and a 2/2 cossack outside of Bursa, home of Sun Tuz. If we wage this successfully, we can get Leo and Tuz from the same country. THIS would be a deffinate help to our war efforts.
In summary:
China and England are Dead. Angry Little Penguin and Stalin are in Spice. We are industrial, as are Egypt and Greece (who also drew medicine)

Looks like great work, Stuck as a Mac. I'll comment in more detail when I get the chance.

Rubberjello is up when he gets the chance.

Well, I hope you all can forgive some weedy moments because I've been on a clear liquid diet for 5 days! (Does Vodka count as a clear liquid? ;) )

This stage must be the hard part of Succession Games, because it takes me half an hour to try to take it all in and figure out what is going on. We are actually not at war with anyone now, and evidently "War Happiness" just ended because our entire core would revolt next turn if I just clicked "end-turn". We have a total of 40 Cossacks mostly scattered over the corpse of the former English empire. There are a suspicious amount of Egyptian units scattered throughout our republic. We have agreements up the ying-yang with them, but they could really hurt us if they sucker-punched us right now. Speaking of security concerns - the Celts don't look like they are enamored of us right now either!

We are still in a Golden Age, with our core pumping out Cossacks and the fringes Musketmen. We have a large cash reserve ready for...what? Massive Rifleman upgrades? Rushing some protective units in the fringes?

I'm also assuming we are gunning high on tech until Steam Power, then cutting it off.

I'm assuming we still have a good rep? I don't want to declare war on the Ottos if we are already inside their territory. Is that an issue right now? I would assume we need to keep our Rep good at least until Egypt leaves us alone while we take out the Ottos.

Stalin is available for a wonder build. We can get Economics cheap from the Greeks for Dyes and Silks. I would vote for this and build Smith's Trading and improve our economy and cash flow. Alternatives are the Heroic Epic, Mil Academy (bleah!), another Army (bleah!), Capitol relocation (too long-term?)

edit - just noticed that London had already built Smith's and we own that! :)

eg1t2pic010.jpg

PS SaaM - great set of turns - and ignore what I said earlier. The vast majority of all Cossack units were on the Otto border, healed and ready to go. Thanks!

IT Renew Spices to Greeks for 200 gold and WM. Ottomans demand we leave, I agree. (troops moved automatically) The opportunistic Egyptians build a city in destroyed former English territory, further dividing our Republic. Most enemy units seemed to be "heading home".

860 AD (1) We get Nationalism. Go for Steam Power in 6. One city (Bergen) went into disorder. (I had moved Lux slider to 20% and ran at a deficit.) Request Ottos to leave our territory...they declare war on us! Bwuhahahahahahahaha!!!! I thought I would have to irritate them more! War happiness kicks in big time and I slide Lux back to zero. Stalin hurries Heroic Epic in Moscow. Kill 3 Knights and 1 Musketmen in our territory, gaining 7 slaves from 3 settlers and a worker (Otto was definitely thinking of doing some land-grabbing!). I lost 1 Cossack though, and had no promotions. Move towards Bursa with large force. Capture Adana with no losses (only 2 spearmen defending). Capture Izmit with no losses (musketman and spear defending) Kill an additional musketmen/settler combo and get 2 more slaves.

Change some build orders to settlers and hurry them (to prevent further land grabs from the Egytians.)

IT Kill 2 counterattacking Otto Knight units, no losses. Egypt makes another land grab! :(
Gahhh!!!!! Celts make another land grab! They must have had settlers waiting for a long time! Our Settlers are put in a holding pattern.

eg1t2pic011.jpg

870 AD (2) The holy grail of military wins is ours! (Sun Tsu's)
eg1t2pic012.jpg
We use our mighty Cossack army to single-handidly conquer Bursa, and send the rest (7 Cossacks) sweeping onwards to the capitol of Istanbal for next turn attack. Barracks "mysteriously" appear throughout the Republic and our cash flow increases. Kill Otto Sword and Knight in open with no losses. Otto counter-attack seems to be about 5-6 Knights. I pick off as many as I can. Konya is captured with no losses (one spearman defending) and we pick up a slave worker. Antalya is captured from a 4/4 Musketman and speaman with a loss of one Cossack and no promotions.
I hurry a couple of Rifleman in English cities now that we have barracks for Vet units.

IT Otto Knight attacks our Cossack and losses, we get promotion. One agreement (Saltpeter & Ivory) with Egypt ends. I do not renew for obvious reasons. We just got our own Ivory when we conquered Konya. Egypt not having Saltpeter is a small blessing!

880 AD (3) Build Krasnoyarsk on a razed English city site, just beating out another Egyptian settler. Istanbul falls with the loss of one of our Cossacks. It was defended by 4 3/3 Muskets and 2 4/4 Knights. (3 of our Cossacks red-lined) We now own Leonardo's Workshop and The Oracle. 2 workers were also captured. Advance Cossacks on two more Otto towns, Killing an advancing MI and Spear.
I rush some more Riflemen in some of the captured English towns.

IT Spice deal with Egypt ends. We do not renew. Our Golden Age ends. We immediately are hit by a defict in the budget. I run with it until we get Steam Power (due in 4). Celts are building Shakespeare's.

890 AD (4) Capture Edrine (capitol) with no losses (3 Cossacks red-lined against a 4/4 Musket and 2 3/3 Muskets) We Capture Uskudur next (new capitol) with no losses with a reg musket, Knight, and Spear defending. We also capture Iznik with no losses (4/4 Musket and 3/3 Spear defending) 2 cities left of the (former) Ottoman empire!

900 AD (5) Aydin and Sinop fall easily with no losses for us. We don't get the notification that the Ottomans are eliminated!!????? ARRRGGGHHHH!!!! Trade for WM from everyone...no luck there. There's a settler on a ship somewhere. I decide to keep the war happiness going as that is what is giving us a lot of benefit right now. Flip risk is greatly increased though, so I don't station units inside any cities and keep some Cossacks stationed close by. I start starving every Otto city down. Start heading the Cossacks back towards Egypt. The last agreement with Egypt expires next turn (the ROP). I switch over the former English towns that have produced 1 Rifleman over to Libraries (we want some culture expansion eventually, right?)

910 AD (6) We get a new wing edition on to our Palace. Trade Dyes, Gems, and 168 gold to Greece for Incense (to keep us happy). The Celts are too dirt-poor to pay for any of our Luxes. All resistance in Otto cities have ended. Starving them now. Sending off more healed Cossacks towards Egypt.

920 AD (7) Decline renewal of ROP with Egypt. We are ready to obliterate them with a clear conscience! :D Movement of Cossacks. Moving some Workers back to core area for railroads.

930 AD (8) Renegotiate Fur trade to Greece for about the same GPT. Steam Power is discovered, and we have gobs of coal! Set to Electricty on 40 turns. Slider set to 10-0-0 at +368 gpt. Start railroading.

940 AD (9) Positioning. Railroading. Core still building Cossacks. Leaving 6 mobile "MP" Cossacks in former Otto land in case of flips or casual invasions. Bad move? We have no other units.

950 AD (10) Positioning. We have 59 Cossacks, 48 of them are in position to attack along the Southern border of Egypt. Good luck to Shaesha! It would be cool if we can trick them into declaring war on us! Remember, we are officially still at war with the Ottomans. We have war happiness with them, but this is due to wear off very soon. We only have active agreements with Greece.

Ermm...we're Scientific, but we did just reach the Industrial Age, yes ;)

Medicine is a bit of a let down, but...

but on a game with war.... I start research on Nationalism.

Huh? I said before, "When we get to the industrial age, railways are all we want." And they are all we want! We do NOT want Nationalism!

Why not? It makes it cheaper for everyone else, like Egypt, to research! We're going to charge at them with cossacks, whether or not we have rifles defending our cities is going to be of academic value, since they won't get to counter-punch.

Whether THEY have nationalism is a different story, we don't want them to have it, and we don't want to make it cheaper for them by researching it ourselves! All we wanted is Steam Power, and maybe Industrialization so we could build the Suffrage.
IBT: All resistance ends. Greeks start Shakespeare's.

T10: 2 deals run out. Egypt is Industrial :( :ehoh: So is Greece. The good news is that Alex also drew Medicine.

Well that's good at least.

Other than that mistake though, the rest of your turn was great. I don't really have any comments at all. Great war mongering and progress into enemy territory :goodjob:

Really? So would I have. Great move here!

Change some build orders to settlers and hurry them (to prevent further land grabs from the Egytians.)

I really wouldn't worry about Egypt planting cities around. It means they're investing resources in building colonies which are not going to benefit them for many turns. We have a timeframe to wipe them out long before this. It means we can capture their small cities instead of having to invest resources in founding our own.

870 AD (2) The holy grail of military wins is ours! (Sun Tsu's)

Great! :)

IT Spice deal with Egypt ends. We do not renew. Our Golden Age ends. We immediately are hit by a defict in the budget. I run with it until we get Steam Power (due in 4). Celts are building Shakespeare's.

Yup, we want to go hard after Steam Power (we would already have it if we didn't stop to get Nationalism!)

You did a great job wiping out the Ottomans like this! :goodjob:

900 AD (5) Aydin and Sinop fall easily with no losses for us. We don't get the notification that the Ottomans are eliminated!!????? ARRRGGGHHHH!!!! Trade for WM from everyone...no luck there. There's a settler on a ship somewhere.

Yeah, sounds like they live on boats. Maybe they have a city on some island though.

I switch over the former English towns that have produced 1 Rifleman over to Libraries (we want some culture expansion eventually, right?)

Depends if we're going to dominate this thing, or wipe the map clean. Considering the Greeks are holed up on their own continent, and the Ottomans live on ships, we might want to go for Domination.

920 AD (7) Decline renewal of ROP with Egypt. We are ready to obliterate them with a clear conscience! :D Movement of Cossacks.

Great. You probably should have already declared on Egypt by the end of your turn. Do remember that the clock is ticking on them getting Nationalism, and we want to strike them before then. They do not have a source of saltpeter since we cut it off, so if we attack before they get rifles, then the best defenders they'll have are musket men, and the best they'll be able to build are pikemen.

Moving some Workers back to core area for railroads.

This is good, but you didn't do it nearly enough. I see workers still chopping jungle and mining. That is far far lower priority than railroads. When you discover railroads, EVERY worker should start building them. We want two things: a military railnet, and our core cities all with railroads on them.

Additionally, you are building railroads on hills. This is lower priority, since a railroad on hills takes longer to build, and only has the same benefit as a railroad on mined grassland.

Yeah we probably want to make peace with the Ottomans soon.

Declare on Egypt immediately. Charge and wipe them out ASAP.

Then we probably want to go for domination.

-Sirp.

Egypt gets the -> :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
Conquer them, drive them before you, and hear the lamentation of their...errr.....camels??!!

Remember, don't drink the water while you are passing through, and also remember; soldier graffiti on the Pyramids is a time- honored tradition!

Welllllllll I'm not feeling too good about this turn :(

We're now at war with everyone i think...

Pre-Turn - Got rid of entertainer in Coventry, 2 in Trondheim, 1 in Tsingtao.

960AD - Trade territory maps with the Celts. We declare war on Egypt. Capture a worker in Buto.
Our cossack takes out Buto. 1 Cossack takes Lischt. Capture a worker by Abydos. We take 4 Cossacks
to Abydos and it is ours. We capture another worker by Abydos. We lose 2 Cossack outside Abydos to
two of their Cossacks. We take Egypt's spice colony. We also took their wine colony. Hieraconpolis
is ours. We lost 2 cossacks going after El-somethin. We make a deal for Peace with the Ottos.
We just took Avaris. I moved happiness up to 10%

IT - They take Hieraconpolis back. We lose 8 Cossacks and they lose 3

970AD - We kill off their army and Cossack by Abydos. We take Hieranconpolis back. Our army is
fortifying there now. El-Amarna is captured - it cost us a Cossack though.

IT - Ottos and Egypt sign an embargo against me. Lose 5 Cossack and Sneeze riots

980AD - We take Elephantine and get a great leader in the process! Welcome Lenin!

IT - We lost El-Amarna to Egypt along with 4 Cossacks. We're rioting all over the place - went
to 20% on the slider.

990AD - We captured Byblos. Had to go to 40% to keep everyone from rioting. Rushed library
in Brighton. Changed Adana to Galleon then rushed it.

1000AD - not much happened here... I am fortifying quite a few of our troops - they should be ready
to go soon. Also built an army with Stalin.

IT - Greece demands Ivory - I decline - We're now at war with Greece.

1010AD - We take El-Amarna AGAIN.

IT - We lose 3 cossacks.

1020AD - Rush a library in Conventry. Rush a library in Canterbury. Rush a library in London.
Rush a Cossack in Buto - there is a greek city real close. Rush a Cossack in Riga.

IT - Celts and Egypt signed an embargo against us.

1030AD - We conquer Rhodes.

IT - The Celts form a military alliance against us with Greece and declare war. An egyptian
army captured Byblos! Elephantine flips! ACK! Hieraconpolis flips!

1040AD - We take Cataractonium from the Celts. We capture Pi-Ramesses.

IT - The Celts take back Cataractonium.

1050AD - Just railroading

I just remembered that I didn't check happiness before exiting.'

Good Luck!
