[BNW] Enjoyable Deity Games

Wow! You're a crazy good player! I have finished my playthrough and I'm exactly 100 turns slower than you were and will post my updates later, but in the mean time, would you mind posting the save file? any that you have, maybe 100, t150 or 200? I would love to learn from analysing your game.

OK, I upload some save files, and autosave files for T100 and T150

Damn that's some nice cheating man. It even brought me back from the dead just to comment about it. Well done though, you fooled the others though so I guess you good man.

My last 2 rounds of 50 turns for #150 below. I'm happy to have made a powerful empire in the end despite a major setback in turn 233 (see report). Unlike the Netherlands game, I didn't use any abuses/exploits and even AI manipulation was kept at a low.

a few conclusions and fun facts about my playthrough:

Spoiler :

major errors:
  • the fact that I founded a Religion late coupled with the fact that I started to grow the cities before the Religion had spread was a major mistake that heavily changed the strategy as I really wanted to buy cheap Pagodas and stayed in the Medieval Era with this objective, but I only got to buy 1 cheaply. The better way was to get a religion quicker using Faith and not Culture with the help of Kathmandu. An aggravating factor was that I took Ceremonial Burial instead of Tithe, which is very bad if you don't manage to spread. Well Tithe is always better but I really hoped happiness would protect me from Public Opinion and wanted to test.
  • I was first to Ideologies and should have chosen Order and put the policies into happiness for a comfortable game and possibly winning around t 275 instead of 300. I took Freedom and Civil Service and Capitalism instead.
  • Swords into Plowshares is weaker than Religious Community but I partly took it for fun since I based all game on high food. I think only by this change alone victory would come 10 turns earlier, yes RC is that good!
fun facts:
  • I researched all techs by myself, no tech was stolen. I didn't plan this, just that I had high Science and spies were low level from staying in mercantile CSs.
  • Russia, the only strong civ and the only one with a higher score, was afraid of me most of the time and ended the game with around 10% less literacy.
  • In turn 183 I was still in Medieval Era and in 300 the Spaceship was launching, without even using Hubble. This was not on purpose, it just happened.

turns 200-250:

Spoiler :

201 - I get loans and buy the last university. Building Oxford.
206 - I finished Electricity. Buy another Pagoda.
207 - Radio finished by oxford. Steel finished. Rationalism-Sovereignty because I am broke. Artist spawns.
208 - Gunpowder finished. I am first to ideologies and can choose anything. I choose Freedom and take Civil Society and Capitalism.
209 - Chemistry finished. An engineer spawns and I bulb for Eiffel Tower.
210 - Eiffel Tower done.
212 - One turn of unhappiness as all dealings come to end and must be renewed.
213 - Fertilizer finished.
214 - I propose International Games.
215 - Freedom-Universal Suffrage. Bulb Artist. Navigation finished. I buy one more pagoda.
218 - Discover Archeology.
220 - Russia is still AFRAID of me.
222 - Denmark is second to ideologies and they adopt Order. He has only 10 tourism and I have 22.
223 - Biology finished.
225 - Industrialization finished. Sweden is third to ideologies and takes Autocracy. I vote Russia to be the Host of WC.
226 - Russia is 4th to ideologies, they take Autocracy and they now give me Dissidents -20. Metallurgy finished. Another Pagoda.
227 - Russia denounces me and is no longer Afraid.
228 - Rifling finished.
229 - Russia citadel bombs me but steals only 2 workable tiles.
230 - I finish Louvre!
231 - Unhappiness occurs and I have to spend 54 for a lux to fix it.
232 - Russia steals Riga from me. Napoleon with the highest tourism entered Modern.

233 - Napoleon struck me hard with his Order ideology he chose and puts me at -42 Public Opinion and -18 unhappiness, despite us being 54/22 ratio of tourism. It is impossible to fix this situation because I am also completely broke at -64 gpt and I have no ways to find gold or happiness. Anarchy is the only viable option I see, as ugly as this is. My Empire is powerful enough to overcome the loss of 2 tenets, 1600 culture, 2000 science and the inability to build the Statue of Liberty. And Napoleon will pay, in time, for this disgrace. I can now only think about how much more powerful taking Order directly and focusing on happiness tenets would have been.

at the start of Anarchy:
Poland_Anarchy_233.jpg

241. - Until now preparations to win International Games have been made. Increasing production to maximum.
243. - I put 1243 production in the first round of I.G. Russia is AFRAID again. I pay Russia to DOW Denmark just because I am annoyed at Denmark who insults me and is Hostile.
244. Russia makes a fear based DOF proposal and I accept. I put 1823 in total in the second round of I.G
246. Plastics finished.
249. I win I.G with 2100 production. Refrigeration finished. Buy one more pagoda.
Poland_250.jpg

turns 250-300 and victory.

Spoiler :

(many non-optimised things happened in this session since I had lost my motivation after the loss of 2 tenets. I even finished without ever building Hubble as it can be seen in the final screenshot, but with a comfortable advantage of over 10% literacy over Russia)

256 - I am beaten to Broadway for 1 turn by Russia who already built Cristo Redentor. I am upset by these mistakes... I could have built this had I started earlier to work on it instead of non-essentials.
257 - Peniciling Finished.
259 - Military Science finished.
260 - Flight finished.
261 - Dynamite finished. Railroad finished. Bulb Kremlin.
262 - Electronics finished. Open Aesthetics
263 - I vote yes to World Fair. Aesthetics cultural centers.
264 - I put 1585 in the first round of World Fair. Order-Hero of the People.
266 - Win World Fair with 2200 production and put policy into Rationalism>Humanism. Austria proposes DOF, I accept.
Poland_worldfair266.jpg

270 - Russia Afraid again. I pay her to attack Denmark.
272 - Ecology finished. Telecommunications finished. I vote Sweden as the Host. Rationalism-Free Thought. Building CN Tower.
273 - Ballistics finished. Aesthetics-Fine Arts. Bulbed Sydney Opera House.
274 - Built Syndey Opera House. Aesthetics-Flourishing of the Arts.
275 - Radar finished. Pay 1000 to Samarkand for coal access to be able to build 2 more factories.
276 - Nuclear Fission finished.
278 - Rocketry finished. CN Tower built. Neutschwanstein castle built. Aestetics-Artistic Genius taken.

286 - Combined Arms finished. Started work on Spaceship Parts.
287 - Bulbed a writer for Rationalism finish. Took Particle Phisics free tech.
290 - Computers finished. Robotics finished.
293 - Order-Spaceflight Pioneers taken. I hurry production for an SS booster.

My EDGE#150 t250-300 report follows. Getting rolling, but will not finish before Clauswitz expires. First cap on the other continent, and working on the next. However, I am having significant difficulty with the terrain, mostly because I don’t want to trigger the “Move or DOW” demand. In hindsight, I should have done my sweep in a different order. I am still hopeful to wrap up before T350.

Very unusual for me to leading in score and several demographics. I am also settling late cities, which is something I hardly ever do.

Short turn-by-turn descriptions under the Spoiler. Thumbnail images this time, since there are three of them.
Spoiler :
  • T250 army swimming to Austria
  • T255 annex St. Petersburg, which I should ave done sooner, since it is a few turns into a Stock Exchange
  • T256 DOW Austria
  • T258 capture and raze Graz
  • T259 Warsaw pasuses Eiffel Tower to build a Settler
  • T260 RA and DOF expires w/ Gustavus
  • T261 capture and raze Innsbruck; adopt Young Pioneers

  • T264 Harald helping me with Vienna; all three arty now double-tap
  • T265 capture and puppet Vienna; Harald makes peace w/ Maria Theresa
  • T266 Harald wants to DOW Gustavus, I ask for the ten turns; annex Vladivostok when it starts on an Arsenal
  • T267 loose a WH; Electronic unlocked, start on Combustion; upgrade my two Frigates and Repair Fleet so assault on Salzburg can continue
  • T268 burn a GW to unlock Resettlement, since that seems to be a thing I am doing; found on coastal hill Betty Vienna and Hanoi, and send it a TR
  • T269 capture and puppet Salzburg, which I thought I would raze, but it has LToP; Harald scolds me for settling near him
  • T270 capture and raze Klagenfurt, killing off Maria Theresa
  • T271 decline DOF invite from Gustavus since I will be DOWing him as soon as my Carrier is up
  • T274 DOW Gustavus after selling lux to buy out his CS, also bribe int Napoleon to DOW Gustavus as well; take Bregenz; war spoils an RA
  • T275 Bregenz flips, so I loose a Privateer
  • T276 adopt Iron Curtain; recapture Brengenz
  • T277 Gustavus beats me to Cristo Rendentor by one turn
  • T279 dumb, almost lost my Carrier to a sub
  • T280 Lol, just notice that Russian Holy City was not in Moscow
  • T282 I am having trouble getting to Swedish territory
  • T283 capture and raze Espoo
  • T286 I am going to have to wipe out Sweden because I just cannot stand how the AI settles
  • T286 GA starts, so that will solve my money problems, as I have two GA waiting

  • T299 vote is up; Harald complains that I bought tiles, and I promise to stop; liberate Melbournes, so nwI have place to land in Swedish territory
  • T300 Embargo CS revoked, so now I can pick up trade quests; IG starts

I didn't know how to reply to you.
If you post these nonsense only because you don't know how to win fast
you can learn from elite players. for example here are the videos introducing the strategy I use in my game.

If you have any specific question about my game. I have kept all the autosave files of everyturns.
I can't upload all of them because it's too large. but I can provide autosave file of any turn in my game if you can post any specific question.

That's a game from 2018 and what does that prove? Nothing. We're talking about the game you posted on here. The save files indicates that you have been tampering with it. Why don't you provide a video from this game? I can clearly see that these save files are not legit. I think this the first time I have ever accused someone here of cheating so it's not like I'm a forum troll around here. I got myself got a youtube channel where I show the games from start to finish. If you prove me wrong than I of course will be ashamed of myself and apologize.

On another note which is just insane to say: Who hasn't used the Bomber unit? That is a unit that pretty much every warmonger has used. Insane to say such a statement. It would almost be to claim to never used Crossbows.

Also I once had a game where I took out a civilization turn 8. What does that prove? Nothing. I have no evidence so I wouldn't expected anyone to believe me which is fine, because that was just a dumb map and me getting a early ruin. You have provided claims and evidence that shows tampering. You can't be upset about me asking you about that.

I'll watch the match you posted though.

I believe the "save file tampering" claim you post is simply because I encountered the savefile bloating problem.
I don't have to tools to fix it myself. can anyone help me with that?

also, I never use bombers before because I always win the game before Modern era if I want a DomV, and I didn't not frequently play on Continent maps

@Nizef I see that you also encounter the bloating problem in your game, can you help me fix my save files.
I fail to install the mod to fix it myself. Thanks very much

EDGE#151: In the beginning there was... Salt (SV challenge)

This game is mainstream in the EDGE series. We play as Russia on a large sized Fractal map with standard speed and QC and QM are turned on as usual. This is a no fuzz game: the idea is to win through a SV and the only additional task is to take the neighbouring capital. To your aid you have a lot of land, albeit a little uninspiring, but still. And of course it helps to have a plains/river Salt start (YASS)! You and your neighbour start close to each other but the rest of the pack is further away behind some bad terrain. In the early game, I advice you to scout extra carefully when you find Tyre. All is not as it seems! In my opinion this mainstream task is interesting, not only for the task at hand but also for the map itself. It is back to basics in an enjoyable format. Have fun!

I played according to HoF rules and also submitted my win. There is a short recap of my game behind the spoiler.

Spoiler :

I settled one tile to the E on the river/hill. Met Sweden very early and had to rush to forward settle Gustav to get the river to the E. In hindsight I think it was the right decision on a strategic level, even if we all know what will follow in the short term... 4 city NC on t92 and Oracle before that. I was not pleased with the location of Rostov, but I needed the luxury. Strange start in the sense that, being a large map, I only met 3 AIs before NC: Babylon, Indonesia and Sweden. I seriously thought that we had spawned on smaller land mass until China appeared from nowhere. After trading embassies I understood that I had not scouted properly around Tyre. Hence I met Austria, Carthage and America soon after. Interesting start but the early game was a little slow due to me not meeting more than 3 AIs and around t100 I was 8 techs off the pace.

After universities I went for the midgame wonders but only got Sistine. The rest went very early. Indonesia and Carthage expanded a lot and I went for a fifth city all the way to the west coast. Gustav waited with his attack until he got Knights and Trebs, but I could easily fend him off with all that rough terrain between St. Petersburg and Stockholm. Coal was a dissappointment and thus I had to settle a sixth city to get even a tiny node with 3 Coal. Obviously I had no Aluminium either and that was the trigger to start to plan an attack on Gustav. Thankfully he didn´t expand much but still kept a good teching pace (the perfect neighbour!) for TRs. My culture was bad all game and I decided to go for Order. Carthage went Authocracy and Babylon took Freedom, but all other AIs went Order! Dido put Austria out of its misery but the rest of the pack stayed alive to the end.

I attacked Gustav with Artillery and Infantry and the resistance was pretty poor. I got all valuable tiles by taking only the capital and thus set myself up for a steady and unchallenged SV routine. It took me until t296 to launch but nobody else was close to a win in any shape, so I "next turned" a lot at the end, missing some optimization possibilities.

EDGE#152: First, when there is nothing but an ice cold blowing wind (a.k.a. The importance of throwing your Scouts in the water), (CV challenge)

This is a bonus game from the "Tilted Axis miniseries". Now we play as Songhai on a small map with quick speed and QC and QM are turned on as usual. The task is simple: find enough land, settle it and help yourself to a CV. As in the previous game with Russia, also here the importance of early scouting play an instrumental role, whether this will be an easy game or, if you will have to take the long route as I did. It took me until t218 to win, but here is room for improving a lot. I chose Morocco as an AI for this game, so they will appear (and they will appear very soon in fact). Here you have a very fun map at your disposal and I am sure you will make the best of it. Enjoy this fast and furious knight at the opera!

I played according to HoF rules and also submitted my win. There is a short recap of my game behind the spoiler.

Spoiler :

I settled on t2 on the river/hill next to the mountain 4 tiles to the S. That way I got a strong capital but I didn´t realize that I settled 5 tiles from Marrakech. Thus, my only direction for early expansions was to the N. I got two nice locations though, one with Salt and one near where the initial Settler spawned. I dashed for a fast religion with Desert Folklore and got 3rd religion with Tithe/Pagodas/Plowshares/Religious Texts. I met Babylon and Austria fairly soon and China somewhat later. However, Assyria was hiding well into the midgame. I postponed Optics a lot and thus Morocco found all those interesting places to the E of the mainland before I did. I think my game would have been much easier with a city or two on the islands.

After universities I went for the midgame wonders and got HS, Sistine, LToP, Machu Picchu, Uffizi and Louvre. Assyria and China had some inconclusive wars and Babylon had a go at Austria. All AIs maintained their capitals to the end though. Ideologies were shared evenly: I picked Freedom as did Austria, Babylon and Morocco took Authocracy, while Assyria and China went Order. At the end Assyria had a ideology penalty of -76 but managed to stay around zero all the time. Nice to have Coal, even if it was situated on the small island to the E. I had Aluminium as well but the Uranium I had to buy.

I chose to attack and annex Vancouver for the TR possibilities, even if the city itself was abysmal. I got Eiffel, Broadway and all the "necessary" wonders, but still Morocco, China and Austria had large culture output. Thus it took me to t218 to finally win and a better science game would have been a great help here. However: all is well when the end is well. Interesting map and rough early game, still I should have done better. I only got a few AS and thus I researched the entire Exploration tree to get access to the hidden AS. That helped as well.

I don't know why you said the save is useless. the hof rule request the save file immediately after victory and it is exactly what I provide.
but I will still provide you the savefile you want.
I'm also waiting for your apologize after wasting me so much time.

@cocis Thank you for providing save files to me. I notice that you have reloaded a couple of times. You probably did it for spy steals/wonders/cs coups ect. Other than those things I guess it looks kinda legit. I would still recommend you to record your games, because Electronics turn 175 is very strong. Not impossible of course, but it is very strong. You are such a strong player that you got me to accuse you of not being legit. I guess I owe you an apology. GGWP

My #151 videos
(I guess it might be kinda boring to watch. change speed at lower right)

Spoiler :

part1: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1wo4y197FA
T1 - T96 (Civil Service)
liberty early game. self found 8 cities and keep suppressing Sweden. steal a lot of workers in this game.

part2: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1q64y1X72P
T96 - T147 (Industrialization)
get one Sweden city from peace treaty, and DoW on Sweden again.
keep struggling for happiness. tech order is Civil Service - Medal Casting - Education - Banking - Industrialization.

part3: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1844y127nQ
T147 - T185 (Plastic)
in my first trial of this part. I try to capture Sweden capital with limited military investment but things did not going very well.
so I decide to "exploit" Nizef's additional task, taking Sweden capital only at the last turn of the game.
slow policy hurt a lot in this game. T170+ Secularism and T190+ Free Thought. Didn't finish world fair before plastic

part4: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1BM4y1K7sR
T185 - T208 (victory)
A careful order science victory planning after plastic.
Also build a few infantries and two rocket artilleries to capture Sweden capital in a few turns.

EDGE#153: What could possibly go wrong?

This game is not mainstream in this series, nor will it be. Firstly, and let us get that out of the way, we play on an standard sized Arborea map. This usually leads to a slightly rougher game just based on the map template itself. At least my experience is that the map is a little shy on resources and luxuries. To compensate for this, I picked a civ that will thrive in this habitat: the Celts. If you know how to settle a city, this will be enough to get a pantheon...

Secondly we play on Quick speed to make it more demanding. QC and QM are turned on as usual. Thirdly, this game has a rather interesting set of AIs. There are some culturally able civs and then there are some warmongers. Your neighbours are of the latter type, or what do you think about Assyria, Carthage and Mongolia! What could possibly go wrong in a neighbourhood like this? Fortunately they will also suffer in the early game and it will take a while for them to amass decent military forces. In this game you can go in any direction you want. I played the Celts to a late t213 CV, but any other VC is definitely on the board. It will be helpful, if you found/capture at least one coastal city for yourself. Have fun on this slightly different journey!

I played according to HoF rules and also submitted my win. There is a short recap of my game behind the spoiler.

Spoiler :

SIP. What else? First expand up N for coast/river and Pearls. Second down S for production and 3rd to the W on the Marble. Genghis was quite close and Dido was already coming with a settler for the coastal spot I claimed. First pantheon with God-King. I wanted to test it on quick speed and together with the Celts it worked out well. I got the 2nd religion with Tithe/Pagodas/RC/IP. I built Oracle after NC and also Hagia Sofia before turning my attention to the midgame wonders. I had met all but one civ at this point. The last one turned out to be Venice.

More or less decent midgame for a CV: I hard built Sistine and LToP, rushed Uffizi with a GE and then I also built Porcelain and Louvre. Only Globe escaped me with a few turns. China had a long war with France, a shorter one with Genghis and some skirmishing with Venice. Assyria wanted to test my troops but I diverted their attention to Genghis instead. Elizabeth just sat there complaining about life in general. My only friend in the game was, and I hope you are sitting down while reading, Dido! We had several DoFs, several RAs and they happily converted to our religion. Even with different ideologies that was the only negative modifier we had all game! This was a huge surprise to me but apparently it is possible to stay BFF with Dido.

My cities had slow growth and thus it took a while to get the desired techs. This was nothing unusual for my CV games. However, France had massive culture and unfortunately beat me to IG with less than 20 hammers. This slowed me down and it took me until t213 to finally win. For once I got a positive experience with Arborea. Of course this included picking a strong civ for the occasion. Interesting game and I had to really watch my steps with both Assyria and Mongolia right at my borders. Late game, I decided that Genghis had to go and joined the united front of Assyia and Carthage to put an end to the mongols.
