Error preventing mod from loading

Hey,

After picking up BtS & getting into Age of Ice, I decided to check out the actual Fall from Heaven mod. I installed it today, but unfortunately I am unable to play it as an error keeps popping up every time I attempt to load it.

The error is the "initialize renderer failed" one that seems to have struck many Civ4 players in the past. I've discovered the "fix" to the issue listed elsewhere on this site, which seems to be to uninstall the entire game, mess around with my video drivers, and reinstall. However, unlike the case with most, I don't get this error when I launch vanilla Civ, BtS, or any other mods. The error only occurs when I attempt to load FfH.

Any ideas/suggestions? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I would check to make sure you are running FfH2 with your vanilla Civ4 CD (not your warlords or BtS CD) and that you are running Civ4 version 1.74. Outside of that it should work fine.

Are you running vsta by chance?

that would be vanilla 1.64 :p

I think he has made a typo and meant that once you install bts you have 1.74

Just checked. The correct disc is in, and I am running build v1.74.

And no, XP here.

So, you are using the vanilla disk with Fall from Heaven version 0.23 or the BTS disk with FfH 0.24 beta?

After carefully reading your 1st post, I noticed that it implies that you didn't try the fix you found, so, if you haven't try that and see if it works :)

Sorry to bump a year old thread, but I'm having the same problem. I get the "initialize renderer failed" message when loading FFH but BTS loads just fine. Interestingly enough, older versions of FFH (.30 and .31) also load just fine. But the current .34 ... :shake: Any suggestions would be appreciated ...

Resolved! I had to install monitor-specific drivers, rather than using the windows default drivers for a generic monitor.

Do you have the latest BtS patch (3.17) installed?

Thread Necro much? Nah, j/k

Anyway, in addition to making sure you are running the latest BtS version, make sure you download patch "a". I had the same problem but installing the patch worked.

Thanks for the replies!

:yup: Yes, I do. And just for good measure, I uninstalled BTS and then reinstalled and re-patched.

I've tried both "a" and "b" patches to no avail. I even tried re-downloading .34 from a different mirror, also to no avail.

Send a screenshot of your "..\Mods\Fall from Heaven 2 034" directory so I can see what might be going on.

Thanks, Kael! Tis attached ...

Install location looks good, it is a full install (not just a patch). You may want to update your directx version, but i would think if that was a problem it would also have problems with native BtS.

Can you link your "/Fall from Heaven 2 034/Assets/XML/Art/CIV4ArtDefines_Misc.xml" file?

Did you add .exe to the installer name? Know it didn't install properly for me until I did that.

Edit: Just tried patch "c" ... same problem.

You may want to update your directx version,
It looked like BTS did that when I reinstalled. Or at least it hit the firewall like it was updating it. :dunno: DxDiag reports version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904).

I added the .txt extension since XML wasn't a valid upload file type.
