Erstwhile Startup Bug

Hello all,
I have enjoyed Civilization 4, bug free, for quite some time now on my Dell Inspiron 9300. What a great game! Since I enjoy it so much, of course I bought the expansion pack, Warlords.

Let me clarify again - Civ4 runs with no problems whatsoever.

However, occassionally on start-up, Civ4 Warlords freezes at the "loading.. [japanese]... laden..." splash screen with the picture of the Viking ship's prow. It hangs at that screen and then, about 2 minutes later, displays a Windows XP error reporting message.

This error occurs only occassionally, and the chance of it occurring is lessened (but still not zero) if I eject the CD-ROM and re-install it. Does that make any sense?

Has anyone else encountered and surmounted this problem?

Maybe your cd drive has sometimes trouble to get past the copy protection. There are legal and illegal ways to overcome this. As for legal, try searching if there's an update for your cd drive firmware.
