espionage

Since getting BTS I haven't really bothered to learn about using espionage in my games. I do use it on occasion to make a city revolt so I can attack it that turn without using my siege units and I try to put all my espionage points into the AI I plan on attacking next.

I never adjust the slider for espionage, is that normal? Are there any guides on here that explain ways to effectively use it? I'm currently playing on Monarch level and I'm wondering if I'm missing something by ignoring it. I usually don't see it talked about a lot.

How about stealing techs? I think I remember doing that in the old civs, maybe 1 or 2?
