Figo didn't play well, but I was amazed he was substituted when Portugal was still down 0-1. If it would have stayed that way I think Scolari would have been lynched for that decision (as Advocaat was after the infamous Robben substitution in the Czech Rep match). As it turned out it was a very lucky decision of course.

I think you overestimate the consensus around Figo over here. There is nothing of that sort. In fact, it's been a long time that players such as Figo, Rui Costa or Couto have been more bashed than praised by the fans. My mother even says he should be benched, and she knows nothing about football.

If your mum says so, then undoubtfully that's the way it is . But still, does this make Scolari a wonderful coach with incredible insight or was it merely a lucky decision? Or can we expect your mother on the bench in 2006?
