From Estonia
To Finland:
We agree. You can have my daughter as your wife

ORDERS:
Grow economy.
Expand towards the south.

Europe, 540, A.D.

Time goes on, and the action in Europe heats up. However, some places stay relatively tranquil. Norway for example, has yet to be involved in any great military conflicts. Amon Savag, now a very old man, orders further expansion, which goes along relatively easily with his newly recruited footmen.

Constantinople is doing well. A monument to the already finished expeditions is started, and the people are happy. In the Balkans however, the sound of marching feet is heard throughout the ancient land of Greece. The military is increased, the new 1000 men staying at Constantinople defending it, alongside 500 veterans. The rest of the men, all 2500 of them put on their armor and board the Byzantine navy. Unfortunatly, the Byzantine emperor forgot one minor detail; they don't have a navy. Instead, the Byzantines are forced to sacrifice an economy level to the merchants who only agree to carry them once they recieved their money. The weakly constructed ships carry the cramped Greek troops across Magna Grecia, to Southern Greece. They soon reach the ancient metropolis of Athens, which was by now reduced to nothing but a tiny village. After the fall of Rome, most of Greece fell into anarchy, a shadow of it's former glory. Athens is quickly conquered, but news of the Byzantine arrival spreads throughout the rest of Greece. The locals quickly attempt to unite and drive the invaders back. To complicate matters further, the merchants who carried them to Athens refuse to do any more. Justinian, now also an old man will have to quickly figure out what to do. And he shouldn't count on his researchers attempts to create a mounted warrior either. The "Cataphract" by now is merely a prototype and won't be completed for 3 turns.

In Britian, Northumberland continues constructing St. Alfried's abby. Encouraged trade results in a better economy, and new lands are gained in the South. 17-year-old Alfried III, proves to be exceptionally skilled at the art of war and beggs his father to let him join Northumberland's small army. Though his mother is worried for his safety, everyone else can't help but be impressed by the youth's wit. Meanwhile, the Anglo Saxons are still there, to the South, and are looking Northward for future expansion.

In Finland, nobles come together to come up with a cavalry that could dominate their enemies. Work on it is going slowly though. FInland has succesfully expanded around the area's many lakes. King Volum, marries the daughter of the neighboring Estonian king. King Volum is now also a fairly old man for the age. Hence the country is given a pleasent surprise when the royal couple have a child, prince Matti, who is now 4 years old.

Across the sea, the Estonian economy is increased and Estonia expands South. That same year, a messanger from the "Slavs" reaches Finmaster's castle.

In Andorra, Visigoth raids finally become a big problem. The economy is grown, which more than compensates anything lost to the Visigoths, who are dealt a crushing defeat within a few months. 2500 Andorran footmen marched down from Andorra La Vella, the pearl of the Pyrennaese, and met a loosely put together Visigoth army by King Almarich. The Visigoths are slaughtered, and Andorra gains many lands. To increase the happy mood even more, King Guillem, now has a heir, Guillem II.

In France, King Childebert starts on what would prove his most important work ever. He begins putting together the Salic Law, by way of studying ancient texts and how best to improve the rules abiding in French society. He thinks that it should take him about 30 years to finish. 1000 horsemen are recruited, and that's when the real fun begins.

Childebert poisons his "ally" of Sigmisund, and quickly takes complete control of his North Burgundian kingdom. What's more, the poisoning is framed on his brother Louis. The theory is completely accepted by the army and people's and would remain relatively unchallenged for hundreds of years. Godomar, rightful heir of Burgundy immediatly attacks Louis, and takes over much of his lands. Furthermore, he accepts the same position his brother Sigmisund had held only recently. The conflict is all but resolved. Charles quickly accepts exile and goes to Sardinia, establishing a small kingdom on the island. The only remaining part of Burgundy is half of Louis's kingdom and his castle to which he has retreated to.

Diplomacy

From Pope Felix
To the Byzantine Empire

We have tolerated your Eastern Orthodox faith for a long time now. However you're just begging for trouble by invading Greece. We won't take any military action, however if you continue advancing in Greece, know that we will look most sternly on any future expansions your people may undertake.

From King Alan of the Anglo-Saxons
To King Alfried II of Northumberland

One step farther South and you're soldiers will meet our spears.

From the Rus Slavs
To King Finmaster of Estonia

We seek to establish a kingdom ourselves. We hear there are nice lands farther East. Would you please help us reach them and create a homeland for ourselves? We would be most greatful in return.

From Charles of West Burgundy
To King Childebert of the Franks

Very well. I and those that stay loyal to me will go to exile. I swear upon my faith not to ever return to Burgundy or France.

From Godomar
To King Childebert of the Franks

I agree to your proposal. We must kill Louis, the filthy rat, and impose my control over Burgundy... right under yours of course.

New Rule

You can now build cities. They cost 2 economy levels, but help defend their area whenever an invader comes at them.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of an epic war
That started from this very land,
In this very city.
The king was a mighty ruling lord,
The knights brave and sure,
two thousand warriors set afoot that day
For a short, decisive war.

A short, decisive war.

Their enemies started getting ready,
The very ground shook.
If not for the courage of the fearless king,
All would be lost.

All would be lost.

The swords crashed on the skirts of this
great Roman city.
With Guillem, the lords too,
The warriors and their steeds,
A cowardly Goth and the rest.
All here in "Guillem's Battle"!

So this is the tale of the armies,
They're here for a bloody battle
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The king and his lords too,
Will do their very best,
To kill the other guys,
From their forward command.

No sleep! No rest! No refuge!
For the enemies of that King,
Like Ulysses, it's epic as can be.
So join me here as I recount a tale,
You're sure to learn a lesson,
From many brave warriors,
Here in "Guillem's Battle!"

;)

King Volum was happy now, he had a beatiful wife, a son that he was proud of and saw great things for. He was starting to get old and every day he was happy that he got to see the sun.
He had started a spesial group of knights to serve as the kings personal bodyguards. He was convinced that if wanted to come to heaven he had to build a great monument to God, he would build a great cathedral.

ORDERS:

Expand towards the next lake
Keep working on the royal knights project.
Start Wonder: The Great Cathedral of Helsinki, the largest cathedral the world has ever seen(Sould make the pope happy shouldnt it :D ) . + Culture

The grumblings in the court were barely loud enough to be heard. But the walls had ears. Those ears told Dietrick that the nobles in his court disliked his power. If only they knew that his power could help them too. The more German territory expanded the more territory the nobes got to keep for themselves. Knowing that to anger the nobles would be suicide, King Dietrick ordered that the kingdom be expanded and that the lands aquired be equally given to all nobles.

Orders: Grow army
Expand to east west and south

I'm sorry, I'll correct that. You now have 2000 horsemen. You do have Sigmisund's men. Since many of yours and Sigmisund's men died in the initial battle against Charles, it's now even. As for Charle's men, some followed their king into exile. The rest had no intention of serving the King that had just conquered them and went on to a simple farming life in the Burgundian countryside.

As for Godomar's yes, I'll add them in too... I won't say anything untill the next update but those troops will be the little bonus for you writing stories. They'll be a bit better than normal footmen, but I'm not saying anything else.

The marriage between the Kingdom of Northumberlands King and the Pictlands Princess Fionna meant that the Northumberland now had a claim to the throne of Pictland now that the Great Warcheif of the Picts had deid.
King Alfred now in his late 40's knew that he was getting old and as the 14 year old Prince Richard was being turtored in battle theroy the great King penned a letter to the Pictish royal court...

To the Pictish concill of Cheifs
From King Alfred II of Northumberland

Your Warcheif is dead and instead of a heir being at your throne you have but my wife to lead you. As her husband I take her claim to your throne and shall soon be sending men to assert that claim. I ask that you join me in Peace to bulid a Kingdom that by the glory of God we shall make mighty.

As the messenger left with this dispatch he passed the halfway completed Abby that was always a contest hive of activity for as long as he could live. This Abby it was known would stand for 2 thousand years as a shining example of God's work with man.

The army went to every market town and village and set up stalls where regular food and pay was offered in exchange for service made in the Royal Army. With this huge effort under way the Army would be bolstered ready for the Highland Campaign should the need arise.

Orders in short
Expand Army
Contunine St Alfreds Abby (3/4)

From Alfred II
To Anglo-Saxons

I ask you to allow me to keep my expasion going on in the Kingdom of Wales and when my navy is bulit I lay claim to the entire of Ireland if you must have southern England. Deal?

"Ah yes sire", said the advisor, "but we are having a lot of problems. We don't have a navy, and we aren't exactly expanding very fast by the Baltic shore..."
"Well, that shall change then!" yelled the old king furiously.

DIPLOMACY
From Estonia
To Rus Slavs:
We have nothing against you forming a nation in the east. Just don't try to expand near the Baltic Sea. Also, if you do form a nation, then we would gladly establish a friendship and perhaps even an alliance with you.
