European release date?

Are you saying that the different release date (June 22) only applies to retail copies? In other words, the Steam release will be June 19 worldwide?
Not perse, it's the publisher who decides what the release date is, both retail and Steam.
If the publisher wants the same date it'll be the same date, if the publisher wants seperate dates for retail and Steam it'll be seperate dates.

Some publishers choose to keep the retail and Steam date the same, because they don't want to undercut their retail partners, therefore even on Steam European users can be subject to the European distribution days. It happened when vanilla CiV came out, for instance.

But it appears 2K has chosen to change the release date for G&K to the 19th for European Steam users (which makes yours truly a happy panda ;) )
Edit: Grmbl... Or not? As said above, clicking on different languages says the 22nd. Only English language says the 19th, both US, UK and OZ (which I guess is Australia?). Maybe it's indeed just laziness and the're using the US picture for the UK/OZ as well?

They shouldn't use 19th for UK and OZ if it's NOT the actual date, they could get in serious legal issues, hell, I'd be annoyed, and I would definitely be complaining about misleading advertisement.

I'm italian and today Steam has corrected the realese day. Now appears 22 june _ _||

:( Ireland also says 22nd June.. Waaaah! Waaah!

You know, this really annoyed me :( why do I have to wait extra days for the game to be unlocked while America gets to play it early? Because it's a Friday? I never understood that? Because Paychecks are released on Fridays in Ireland/Europe? People have more time to play on weekends sure, but so do Americans? Why do American get it on Tuesday!

Ugh! This is so annoying. It really ruined my day for me!

You're reason! I hate this politicy with european gamers ._.
But I hadn't hope and I always think that the game will be unlocked friday.
Ah I see also another thing, Steam left "Gods and Kings" by library and they are in the DLC list of Civilization

I would guess that they keep digital releases pegged to retail releases because retailers might make life difficult for the publisher if they are undercut in some way.

Glad I didn't pre-order yet, gives me an opportunity to find a better price than the typically mad euro Steam prices.

The store page changed to the 22nd for me as well, but I also can't find the pre-order in my Steam library anymore. Has it "disappeared" for anyone else?

But look out, as quickly changing IP's (especially over different continents) might make Steam think you're sharing your account which could get your account banned.

Have you checked your DLC tab? ;)

Something very annoying with the release date is that it is midsummer in Sweden, and most game stores are closed Friday and Saturday. So if you want a retail version here, you have to wait until Sunday. Steam download is the only option for me now.

Maybe you can strike a deal with the local game shop to get it on thursday (if they already have it by then)?
And if not, get it from Steam anyway. But you can try :)

Thank you! :) I could've sworn that it had a separate pre-order entry in the library's main pane. I was also thrown off by the fact that the store would have let me buy it again without mentioning that I already had it (the cart normally does that).

Btw, as for changing the IP through a VPN, Valve is pretty touchy about that. The terms of use explicitly prohibit the use of VPNs/foreign IPs to make purchases, though I don't know how they'd feel about bypassing the release date,

Anyway, it's very last century to not have the same world-wide release date. It serves no purpose with a digital release and needlessly upsets a good portion of the people who are willing to pay money.

Great idea. I will ask them about it. Else I'll go with Steam.

:( I'm gutted, so I went ahead and begun operation Begging on Twitter to get Greg or 2kGames to unlock God and Kings in Europe on 19th :D

I am praying to thy gaming gods to let thy game "God and Kings" to be released on thy 19th June 2012 on Steam worldwide, and forget about retails.. we paid more on Steam anyways, the least they can is give us it earlier because we'll struggle with the download anyway D:

Kinda blows for people in Sweden, 22nd of June is midsummers eve. Quite a lot of people are away from home that weekend so you might just as well release it on the 25th.

And to add insult to injury, they've patched in some new bugs making my saves unplayable. I had 2 very interesting games going, which I can't get to load now without the game crashing.

GG Firaxis, you suck *ss.
