I just watched a great animated film:
Les triplettes de belleville
(The triplets of Belleville)
It's a movie about a boy who, at a very young age discovers that he want's to become a bicycle racer. His grandmother gives him a bike as a present, and he starts to train for the Tour de France. When he finally races at the Tour de France he gets kidnapped by the French Mafia and shipped to Belleville (in the US). There he is used in a strange kind of (french bicycle/wine)-racket. His grandmother follows him across the Atlantic and, with the aid of their dog and the "triplettes de belleville", three old singers, she tries to rescue him.
It is drawn in a very distinct fashion, every character is very unique. The movie is almost without words, but an extremely good soundtrack and it has moments where you'll laugh your socks off (I just want to mention that the triplettes are on a frog diet, that is executed to the last detail of their meals).
I can't tell you how perfect this movie is, you've got to see it for yourself. There are countless details, from the type of training the bicycle racer gets, to dog's train neurosis.
The boy gets his bicycle.
Please go see this movie, it will be one of the best animated movies you have seen for a long time. It completely overthrows the usual cliches and has such a fine humour. I just can't believe this movie isn't getting all the press in the world.
