The Hunter Biden Thread

Serious question. Can Hunter refuse the pardon? Can a presidential pardon be refused?

I was also surprised by reactions from non-English writings and countries. They generally agreed that Biden had to find some "balance" between being president and being father. I am not making this up.

Look at these bozos, that's the way you do it; you play the guitar on your Mtv saying that Biden had to give an 11-year pardon to his son just because the extreme Trump was about to be potus again. One wishes to hope the Usian public by and large sees beyond its nose and can understand that while Biden and Trump will be dust in a few years, such actions will stay forever and deliver one more wound to the US democracy.
In simpler terms, your politicians play the public like a fiddle, to get it to the unnatural position of endorsing the law not being equal for all.
The charade of a two-party system reminds me of that famous quote, "USA is also a one-party system, but being extravagant in all things it has two parties for it". Of course what was implied is that it's not extravagance, but a needed mechanism to end up sanctifying the destruction of checks and balances, using polarization the parties knowingly caused.

Ziggy you are right. Elections are just as anti-rule of law as pardoning your family.

I assume you'll be just as outraged when Trump tries to pardon himself?

I am not outraged. I am saying how messed up this road is. And yes, Trump pardoning himself would be even worse than Biden pardoning his son. And after that you will have everyone who matters in that clique be pardoned - and the teams can clap.
It is really damaging to act like this is just a moment to support the team, when it should be clear that those people are in all but name THE SAME TEAM. And they get their fans to allow the SINGLE team to be above the law, by selling it as a fake antagonism.

Ah yes, I remember your disgust when Trump pardoned his son-in-law's father.

And I am right.
I think it's wrong to elect a convicted criminal
I think it's wrong for a president to pardon anyone, family or not.

As I said, I'm just amused at the hypocritical clutching of pearls.

You may think you had an argument to speak of hypocrisy, but to me you come across as just "whatabout"ing about something not logically equivalent; elections are obviously part of a democracy, while pardoning your son is bananarepublic-esque. SPQR, the senile and the people of Rome :)

Could Biden at least announce that he is leaving the Democratic party because his actions no longer represent its values? At least then he can live out his last days in peace.

What values do you think the Democrats hold? What values do you think they mostly differ from Biden on? You may find there's a lot less divergence than you think.

(if folks are interpreting this as a negative, they would be correct!)

Well... in the context of this conversation, it means "tough guy", more specifically, a guy who has had serious encounters with being in law enforcement custody and lived to tell the tale... So have you even been arrested and gone to jail (local/overnight/weekend)? Been convicted and gone to prison (incarcerated/general population/ad-sec/solitary)?

If the answer to those is "No", then no... in the context of this inquiry... you are not a "capital M man".
Those factors are mostly about luck & stupidity.

And I don't think being institutionalized increases one's manliness. Maybe social skills in some ways (although I'm sure they deteriorate in others in such an environment).

It is about damn time he pardoned his son given the vengeance driven Trump is lining up his rogue gallery of criminals and haters. Biden's legacy will be fine.

Dunno about that, barely winning & then losing to Trump (well losing twice really, first you're losing then your affirmative action VP you chose lost to him) is a bit embarassing

Nope :nope: Arrests and/or incarceration are most certainly not "mostly about luck and stupidity" and that statement is probably the most privileged thing I've heard anyone say today.
And I don't think being institutionalized increases one's manliness.
That's an easy/self-serving thing to say for someone who has never been institutionalized. If you (the royal you) have never been in law enforcement custody, you have no anecdotal information to base such a position on. Your take seems alot more like wishful thinking, ie, you haven't been in custody and/or institutionalized and don't want to be, ever... so you don't like the notion that being arrested/institutionalized is some sort of requirement for manliness, because if it was, you couldn't meet it.

Just to be clear... I'm not arguing that being arrested/incarcerated is a requirement to be a "tough guy" was the phrase I used... I was just answering @amadeus question about whether he fit the "capital M man" status as I saw it being referenced by @Farm Boy about Hunter Biden. It could be that all my interpretations are off.

In any case, I'm not personally casting aspersions on your manliness Narz. I'm sure you're a perfectly manly man, with robust chest hair and/or other suitably manly traits that make womanly women swoon appropriately.

I don't get this. Acknowlegding luck ("there but for the grace of 'god' go I") is 'privileged'?

How is it self-serving?

I have, and I've visited my friend in Rikers, who was there because of bad luck & carelessness (it could've been be but he was both more reckless than me & unluckier)

You're off, I don't feel like oversharing but you got the 2nd part right, I absolutely never want to lose my freedom again.

I just find this idea that prison or war or suffering physical abuse makes someone more 'manly' repulsive.

It's a toxic fantasy that leads nowhere good.

Meh, some like, some don't, I'm in a relationship now so I don't have to worry about anyone swooning but her.
