exactly what is there to be excited about

I for one am skeptical about how balanced the leader/civilization powers are. Some seem amazing, while others less so. I'm also concerned about the culture system, if any.

But I'm looking forward to it, as opposed to some.

You need to understand the difference between being skeptical and expressing a dissenting opinion. They are not the same thing. A true skeptic reserves final judgment without evidence.

Also, both are downright welcomed and useful if they use actual substance in the formulation of their opinions.

@modding: They've mentioned ad nauseam, that Civ5 will be the most moddable civ ever.
That the previews doen't have this code, is because they are preview versions. Point.

I'm reserving judgment until we know all the UU/UB stats. Otherwise it would be like judging Civ IV HC as being all right but not excellent based just on the fact that he has Industrious.

Okay i'll play, person who ignores my post!

Question: Why is it exciting?

Answer: lets ignore the graphics for the moment which are clearly superior, and concentrate on the gameplay, this game is radically different from previous civs, one unit per tile and hexes offer far greater strategy and tactics, and are certainly not an example of lazy development.

There's been lots of previews, both with text and video, the game looks amazing and the anticipation to get my hands on it is at a very high level right now, hence the excitement. If you can't feel the excitement after visiting this site, and previews it links to, then this is not the game for you.

I'll leave this forum if Moderators don't stop handing out cards to people who point out obvious trolls, while allowing single-digit post trolls to insult regular posters.

Heh, I've been coming to these forums for more than three years now; and this is the first time I've ever seen anyone act like they're from Gamefaqs. I pray that these forums never get that bad.

Civ5 has some very different game mechanics, which I personally am looking forward to.

However, Civ4 remains a wonderful game, and much like Civ3, I doubt it will die off, just because a sequel exists. If you don't like Civ5, and the demo doesn't make you want it... Keep playing Civ4.

It's crap isn't it? Next I'll be getting infractions for pointing out other blindingly obvious things.

"Oh look, he's a mod because he's got a mod badge." - Infraction
"Oh look, he's black." - Infraction
"Here's proof he's an Australian." - Infraction

Wait for the little red infraction badge on this post too. ;)

<---- Look over there. There's a report post button. Use it. It's how you report obvious trolls.

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

I don't think trolling falls under "harassment, fighting, or rude", so you might want to change that message for clarity.

Actually, trolling seems to fit all three of the categories "harassment, fighting, or rude". Whatever the case, you know now that trolling is definitely something you can (or rather 'should') report.

EDIT
And since calling someone a troll is itself considered trolling, it makes the "report post" button even more important.

Which is :):):):):):):):) of course. Do I get infracted for calling a black person black? Or a snail a snail? Or an Australian an Australian? Or a mod a mod? No, so why should calling a troll a troll? Stupid, that's what it is like most of the rules here.

I bet you'd infracted for calling a stupid person stupid, though.

I bet you'd infracted for calling a stupid person stupid, though.

Actually, it's more likely that you'd get infracted for saying that calling a rule stupid would get you infracted for saying the person enforcing the rule is stupid and similarly implying that that is the case (that the person enforcing the rule is stupid, that is). Because those are way, way different.

I should probably just drop that whole train of thought since snark doesn't translate well into online posts and I'm probably putting myself in danger of being misconstrued.

:nuke:

If it's used as an insult, yes.
Or a snail a snail?
Call a snail whatever you want.
Or an Australian an Australian?
If it's used as an insult, yes.
Or a mod a mod?
If it's used as an insult, yes.

Of course, it's not common for any of those labels to be insults when they are used. Calling someone a troll is a judgement of a behaviour, making it quite different to all the examples you listed.

One of the tasks of moderators is to deal with problematic behaviour. It's not simply about deciding who is and who isn't trolls, making a "naughty or nice" list. I've been infracted for trolling before but it does not make me a troll, and as such I would not appreciate it if every one of my posts was dismissed by someone labeling me a troll.

No, so why should calling a troll a troll? Stupid, that's what it is like most of the rules here.

If you have a problem with the rules, you should perhaps have a discussion with the administrators. However, I doubt they will be sympathetic to your desire to call people trolls.

Calling another poster stupid will probably get you infracted. I assume that does not come as a surprise.

I want to get excited about civ5 but really, I have no excitement about it currently. My reasons are thus...

-Screenshots...the graphics look semi-cartoony and not improved from civ4

I stopped reading here as you are, simply, and objectively speaking, wrong. Any person with eyes can tell you that you are incorrect.

So, we're allowed to call other people trolls as long as we don't mean it as an insult?

No. If someone is trolling, report their post, and enter "trolling" as the reason.
