EXIII Reborn - OCC CONQUEST Challenge

I got it. Will play tommorow because I'm busy tonight. May be busy tomorrow also so either I'll play the 10 turns in the morning or late at night.

1625 BC: Archer completed. Start up spearman to control the unhappiness.
1600 BC: We destroy Polynesian encampment. Get 25 gold.
1575: Palace improved.
1550: Another spearman completed. Fortified in the Delhi. We start Oracle. What else can we build? Push luxury slider down. Kill a barbarian and get 25 more gold.
1525: Destroy another encampment. More gold for us.
1500: Another lone barbarian killed. Its home found and ready to destroy. Our archer is promoted to veteran status.
1475: Another camp destroyed. More gold. Ok, we are on our own island. I've uncoverd the whole thing.
1450: Delhi about to go unhappy. Hire entertainer.
1425: Oh well, Delhi is dying of Flood Plain disease. We lose 1 pop. Going to connect up that iron. So much for getting those war elephants..

Hope I played right amount of turns. Lost track for a while. Once we get writing we can establish embassy with the Iroquois. They have horseback riding, but that is no use to us. I don't believe it is a required tech to go to the next era.

I'm up, I'll probably play tomorrow night, if not then, Tuesday night (all times EDT)

Or maybe I'll just play now...

umm guys....just a quick observation...if you are alone on this island....and your city isn't on the coast....just how do you plan to conquer the rest of the world?...You won't be able to build boats, period, ever..whats the plan?

Surrender Dorothy

Turn 0 -- 1425 BC
Uh...own Island? We better hope not, or this game is over. I send an Archer up to investigate (if there is a landbridge, I'm blocking it)
I veto Oracle. No point. I order up Granary so city can grow faster. Once Granary is done, we should go Soldier-Worker-Soldier-Worker for awhile.

Turn 1 -- 1400 BC
More Disease; I take production off Flood Plain and put it on Mined spot.

Turn 2 -- 1375 BC
We learn Writing, I order up Code of Laws.
The Iroquois have met the Japanese.

Turn 3 -- 1350 BC
Workers finish Road, begin Mine

Turn 4 -- 1325 BC
Delhi finishes Granary, begins Worker
I drop Science to 60%, Code of Laws in 30 turns, -3 gpt

Guys, we're on an island. I recommend starting again; if y'all want to keep playing, let me know and I'll finish this turn.

Or we can go for cultural win.

Conquest did seem a bit far off.

OUCH - could get very ugly if the AI finds a small island out there.

Well this was my quote after 3000BC.

One city Culture at warlord

My vote - FLUSH - We needed a coastal city, unless we want to build a settler, abandon our current city, and move to the coast - GAME IS OVER.

Ya, OCC at Deity is possible (Diplo) with a good start. OCC at Monarch is easy enough (Culture/Diplo/Space). OCC at Warlord? Easy peasy.

I think instead of focusing on airfields so much, we should be able to build a colony/port with the new expansion! Who's with me here?!? :)

well this just sucks...

Mmm... if you all wanna scrap the game, I don't mind. If you guys want, we can scrap the OCC and just go for a straight-up conquest. On warlord, we should be done by the next round.

Or we could abandon and re-settle as Lee suggested... I don't care, what do you guys want?

Starting over would not be a bad idea a coastal city on a river would be be the best bet for a conquest win. Ships are necessary to win!

Hotrod

I also vote to start over. I really like the OCC/conquest idea but I thought at the beginning that we'd be in trouble without the coastal city. Let's give it another try!

alright people, I shall try again tonight. I'm a bit busy, so I'll get this started by tonight, promise.

Alas, this the 4th restart/attempt at EXIII!

seriously, Firaxis needs to implement a little symbol or something that tells you whether you got a coastal/river city... someimtes you just can't tell.

right click the coastal water square -
1 food - that is ocean
2 food - inland lake.

It has a sea square so its probably an ocean.

nah, I know its a sea square, but does it count as being "on" a sea square? I remember building a capital on a spot liek that once and it couldn't build colossus/ships/etc. It seems sometimes its jsut random... do you want me to just go for it?

Move your worker first, probably one square south onto the bonus grassland. There is some water to your south, that is probably ocean but could be a river or a lake. If it's fresh water, you will want to found next to it, as well as next to the sea. If it's not, and it's more ocean, then you are on the coast right now, so go ahead and found your city where your settler stands, and your worker will be on the best square to improve first anyway.

If there is an coastal tile in your initial 1-tile radius that is not part of a freshwater lake, you can build a harbour. I've never seen an exception to this rule.

dude! i know its a sea tile!! I'm POSITIVE! I just wanna know whether it counts as "NEXT TO" the coast!! Civ3 is real picky on that, sometimes it may look like you're next to a coast/river tile, but you're not according to civ3.

Is that next to the coast or not? Can we build galleys, in THAT position?
