I'm not in 1 Canada Square, just the building next to it. And as we only transferred here last week, I've no idea about basements. Rather be here than Fleet Street as I was before, as that meant going through Liverpool Street and getting a 26 bus.

Sorry, I was thinking of the Citibank building. I'm sure they have the same in the other towers.

only when under pressure do you really get to know yourself and those around you

I'd argue that's not true. Under pressure you act without thinking, on pure instinct and emotion. There's no room for rationality to take over until the situation has passed. It's what the person does then that is the true test of character, IMO. It's why (American) criminal law makes such a distinction between crimes commented 'with malice aforethought' and those committed in the heat of the moment.

But I'll agree to disagree if you like; it's off the topic of the thread.

You were the one who said the most nonsense in that regard...

Hitro,

Right now, there is no evidence as to who done the attacks.

So calling my guess 'nonsense' is pretty useless.

And besides, I apologised for going off the cuff.

Ram, no problems in NYC, the morning rush wasnt affected as far as I know. That might not be the case later when people are leaving work.

Bull****! :lol:

I can very clearly recall the disdain you expressed towards everything outside the Western Europe/USA/Canada...
Wasn't that in a chatlog of a conversation between you and miccofl? :rolleyes:

NOW: LET"S GET BACK ON TOPIC!

Hey, his nickname is "Mr Fascist". Use the search to prove to yourself it's standard fare for him.

I'll take your word for it. But again, off-topic, so I'll be quiet.

I heard that security was ramped up in Germany and also over in the States. But this seems to have not been the case or at least noticeable (by the intrepid Inspector Bozo at least).

@all the upset people

There is a useful feature that generates this instead of displaying inflamatory posts:

Anyone else seen Ken Livingstone's speech? I thought it was excellent, about the solidarity of Londoners living side by side. Apart from the few nutcases who are already expressing mass-hate rhetoric, most Londoners are dealing with this tragedy properly.

Here is the Wiki link

CNN, the BBC and ITV News have confirmed 2 fatalities at Aldgate Station. At least 90 casualties have been reported from Aldgate Station alone. All major London hospitals have been placed on alert, and are currently not accepting non-emergency casualties. 95 casualties were taken by bus to the Royal London Hospital where they are being treated; 10 are in critical condition. Many others are being treated at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. Individuals who are wounded and walking are being treated at the scene. Paramedics have been sent down into the tube system to search for more casualties. St. John Ambulance "was called out to assist the London Ambulance Service". [4]. An eyewitness reported that they were "operating on injured people on the concourse at Liverpool Street station." [5]

Recent reports state that 190 casualties are being treated in hospital and 150 of those are in a serious condition.

Emergency services have told CNN that there are "double digit" fatalities still underground at King's Cross.

A Government spokesman is talking of 20 people dead. [6]

Confirmed current casualties:

* Aldgate East Station
o at least 2 killed, 90 injured
* King's Cross Station
o "double digit" fatalities
* Edgware Road Station
* Bus in Tavistock Square
o 1 killed

Rumour from BBC news:

I heard a report about an Islamic webpage, who claimed that they engineered the attacks.

This group also warn the Netherlands and Italy that they are next on the list.

Rumour at the moment, but experts on the box say that the criminal investigation is underway.

The webpages and communications used by the attackers may lead to arrests soon.

No but I saw the Home Secretary addressing Parliament (he only said there were 4 confirmed explosions :crazyeye: ) and then saw David Davis' reply. Don't go calling me a Tory or anything but his was far more inspiring and reassuring.

Ah , we're across the plaza from Citibank. Maybe if I ask nicely they'll let me share their basement ?

Im sure theres going to be a much larger than usual police presence in the subways for the afternoon rush. Could be delays at the tunnels and GWB too. It probably depends on what sort of intelligence they can generate regarding whoever did it, and what statements the bastards make on their various websites. If I had pressing business today after work, Id leave work a little early today.

Thats what someone from the Police said as well. Something to do with people coming out of several different exits.

Yes, he was truly inspiring.

May I recommend that those Londoners who live a long way from work call their local friends and do a bit of sofa / spare bed surfing? It doesn't look like the tube will operate at all today and buses, well. I hope you packed some walking shoes and have some local buddies to put you up, otherwise book a hotel or something.

@Ram - In Australia the PM issued a speech indicating solidarity and sympathy to UK ... it is nighttime 11pm ... it has interupted the cricket match which was being telecast UK vs Aust in London ... that is all except friends phoning and expressing disbelief and anger
