couldn´t resist to finish the next model, this time it´s a Jet. The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_F-104

used by various countries and even now still infamous, for example, the jet still has the nickname "widowmaker" in Germany (more than 300 jets lost with over 100 deaths, iirc)

the model has 993 vertices, 1152 triangles, 256 texture, 128 gloss, this time it is my first teamcolour texture. The texture is based on the german F104G version.

scale for picture was 0.48

uses jetfighter animation

removed old, outdated download

Looks fine:goodjob: - except from the Wiki-pics I gather the wings are just a wee bit short and forward and the wingtip rockets seem slightly oversized. (If it actually looked like that, I'm not surprised they were dropping like flies!);)

ohh my god!!!! nice work, continue!!!!

i used this as reference: http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/3vues/f104_1_3v.jpg

and Xenomorph is right, there are no wingtip rockets, those are fuel tanks. And he is again right that they are perhaps a little bit too fat and short. The AA missile is under the wing (small with red nose ;) )

considering the wings, with my reference it seemed ok, but i will look (later, after my holiday break) after it.

and i considered the F104 never als rocket, it was a dart with engine

the number of casulties was so high not because of the design, the plane should be good, but it was the first modern plane for most nation using the it and for example, Germany used it as fighter/bomber while it was developed as fighter.

It was developed as an interceptor, which clearly shows in the design. A huge engine to get it from the ground to altitude at a phenomenal rate, and wings to give it the lift it needs to keep from falling out of the sky. Oh, and a cockpit for the pilot.
Because of the aircrafts high performance, it suffered in the handling department, and was not a very forgiving bird to fly. It had a very landing and stall speed, and I can image the glide path having a very narrow margin for error. In some respects, it was like the F4U Corsair in that it had stellar performance, but it was not an aircraft for novices.

very very nice job, one of my fav cold war jets!!
I think that the best plane from that time late 50´s is the Saab 35 Draken it was quite high tech for its time but its look is not the best :crazyeye: but that F-104 might come in handy to give to friendly states :king:

finally had the time to make the necessary minor changes and reworked the wings and the wing tanks (but nothing else!), new nif is in the Database download. See pic for the change (left new, right old)

I'll look into it tomorrow, want to create new skins for Germany, Italy, Japan, Turkey, Netherlands, Denmark (or Norway), Greece, Spain, Canada and... BELGIUM :)

Belgium? Is there a Belgium Civ? :D
