"Fall Patch" announced

This place is nowhere near where Bioware Forums are. The level of entitlement and whining on that forum is really incredible.

Two of the more responsive developers out there....Bioware and Firaxis. People can't appreciate what the DO have and instead focus primarily on what they DON'T have.

Nevermind that we have a really good game that has been improved drastically since its release. Nevermind that an excellent expansion pack was released and that we have a comprehensive patch coming out soon. Nevermind that the devs are responsive to the constructive feedback that they receive from the community. Nevermind that the community has been informed that a Fall patch is coming. Nevermind that the community has substantial details about the fixes and tweeks contained in the patch.

Rather than acknowledge the hard work and solid results being produced by the devs, instead of giving constructive feedback, instead of offering a substantive critique, instead of offering ideas on how to improve the gameplay, instead all they can do is whine and cry about frivilous and trivial matters.

"...there are those who sit in their swamp and thus speak from out of the reeds..." Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Best to ignore ranting trolls because they have nothing to contribute. They thrive on throwing mud and because they they make their home in the swamp, mud to throw exists in abundance. Best not to get dragged into their swamp.

I will wait and see what the patch does before i complain. I will say that i was and still fairly impressed with Gods and Kings. That said I can't shake the fealing that g&ks content should probably already been released with vanilla.

I read a post made before the release of Mass Effect 3 about how you they heard you can't holster your weapon like you can in ME1 and ME2, and they were very upset about this. Enraged even! I didn't even notice the option was gone, as it doesn't have the smallest effect on anything. Certainly not not a mass effect. :mischief:

Based on the facts regarding the development of this game and the financial hurdles it overcame to come into existence, facts which are now generally available, that feeling should be shaked and replaced with a feeling that reflects reality.

Fixes take time to Q&A. And in this case, there weren't even very many pressing problems that needs fixing.

That's besides the point though. People are complaining how long this patch is taking after they previewed it and being totally disingenous about it.

I'm pointing out the majority of this patch is new stuff or improvements of existing elements including a whole section simply called 'Polish'. That speaks volumes.

In that case, they don't owe the community any time table on new stuff, even a new national wonder, they are giving away for free.

If your point is that they should have had a small patch out much sooner that fixed the handful of graphical glitches like the scrolling map bug, or the one that keeps crashing certain computer setups in the late game *including my own*, then that's a fair argument, but not for this thread, and not in relation for them taking their time on this particular patch.

Hi, yes that was my point. I should add that none of the issues current in G&K are game breakers for myself. This patch is more a bonus to me than anything else and it certainly isn't stopping me from playing more and more CiV till it is released.

I think that folk feeling so strongly about a patch is quite positive (even the negative). It demonstrates some devotion to the franchise even after all the dumbing down controversy.

I hadn't read anything that said the Devs ran into finicial problems that effected game devolopment. If that is correct then that changes things. Compared though to things I've heard about civ IV or what I've seen in civ III, civ v seemed a little striped down. Now im really getting off topic though. Making this patch should be great and I am impressed that Firaxis is still making updates and DLCs 2 years after the main games launch.

Give it a rest. Isn't there anything else important to talk about than who complains or doesn't? :deadhorse: If there isn't this is a very sad thread and it should be closed. And here I thought everything was relevant.

He`s making a valid point. he shouldn`t shut up cos you know he`s right.

Making false assumptions and telling others is even worse than people whining, since all that will happen is people will get disappointed and whine even harder later. It`s exactly what happened when `someone` said the Patch was going to be released when Win8 was released, so every one was waiting for that- but it didn`t happen; someone created false expectations.

This has caused much of the angst.

That "someone" being an official 2k representative.

These are the articles I was able to find most quickly, but these aren't the articles I originally read to get the info. Anyways, the initial spin was that the cuts wouldn't affect development, but later it came out that the cuts did affect development.

I don't recall anyone claiming it would definitely be released when windows 8 came out. I thought what was said was that it "should" come out in time for windows 8 release. That's nowhere near a statement that conveys certainty.
False assumptions are not entirely the fault of those who share information, but also those who read into things incorrectly. If you don't want to make assumptions, then it's also your own responsibility to be careful with how you interpret these forum posts (I.e. Don't treat them immediately as gospel truth)

Thanks for the info and that does explain alot about the devolopment about the game in vanilla.

Ok,thanks for the link, but he`s talking about the INtel Ultra-book version of Civ5. This could be totally different from what we get on the Pc version delivered from Steam.

Is the Ultra-Book version Patch out?

However, I`ll grant you a star since someone of the Dev team did say that and the less discerning might miss this detail of it being for the Ultra book version of Civ5.

Take a look at the Patch Notes:
Add in a UI overlay that shows which AI is processing its turn.
Now take a look at the video. Look in the bottom center of the screen. There it is! That computer is playing the fall patch, or at that convention known as, the Ultrabook version. My guess is that some of the "Optimizations" he mentioned that are also mentioned in the patch notes are for the touchscreen interface. What are the odds that the Ultrabook version is being released with the fall patch before windows 8 and the PC version isn't?

Theres a different version for laptops? I though all windows machines could only play it through steam, hence one patch / version for all windows users.

Well, I noticed they were very specific about it being the Ultra-Book version and I wondered if perhaps this might mean a different build Patch version as with the Mac.
