"Fall Patch" announced

I don't think we're being all that unreasonable.

Reasonable has nothing to do with it mate. Fact of the matter is that unless a company deigns to talk to us then it's not going to happen and, for reasons entire beyond my comprehension, lots of people seem happy with this state of affairs.

Go figure.

Patiently awaiting a patch. I'm hoping when they say 'optimization' that they actually mean that. The rest of the patch looks good but more than anything else I'm really hoping that this comes through.

Are they going fix the into the renaissance scenario especialy the point system like madjinn said it in his lets play

Or is this for a other patch?

I think we are fine with delays and having Firaxis take their time. We just wish they would communicate with us better. Especially with a game like Civ where some people will play a single match for weeks. You don't want to just ambush players with a patch that makes their save file unplayable.

I don't think we're being all that unreasonable.

I, too, take weeks to play one game and after I'm done, then I'll upgrade. Simple as that. I don't HAVE to play the second it comes out. I'll just wait until I'm done with my game.

Which will lead to another series of post-release rants: steam automatically upgraded the game and broke my save. Here's a hint: if you are currently playing a game and want to finish it, put Steam in Off-Line mode. If you don't do that, please don't come in here and rant about Steam upgrading the game.

I am about to start a new standard game. While I play I keep steam offline. Usually I'll have it on only when I test a scenario or a mod from steam workshop. We could be waiting for this patch way into December. So, I feel there is more than enough time to play.

I equate losing my current save game to the new patch like I would someone plopping a plate of Cake and Ice cream on top of my old plate of just cake.

Yes I would have liked to have eaten that but hey this is much better.

Jeezsh! What's the big deal?

Basically you are saying if you warn me I will be happy to give up my game to play the new patch but if you don't then I am somehow going to be pissed?

COME ON! Be real... You are honestly going to not download the patch when it comes out so you can play for another week on your old save?

Yeah right. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree with that, being one of those players who take weeks to play.
It is my hope that we get a bit of notice when they have a good handle of when it is, even if they told us something like testing going well but the patch won't be ready for 2 to 6 weeks.
Kiwi John

Well it's just hard to know how the testing is going until you find a problem, right?

I would be very curious and probably would update my game. Unless the game I was playing was really good. It would have to be the best CiV game I ever played, good. Which is highly unlikely. Especially since, my available city locations on this map in my current game are horrid.

With such a quiet period after announcing said patch I am hoping they are adding more bug fixes, and features.

Doubtful.

yes. iirc, they mentioned not long ago that we could expect one or two surprises with the patch. Some people here are speculating that this could mean a new DLC, which will come anyways with the patch if you ask me.

Well I just had a shock - Star Wars Episode 7 is coming out in 2015 (And Episodes 8 and 9 will follow). Sometimes when the announcement comes its just a shock - maybe they are adding something we don't know about

Especially "half the draw calls as before".

I'm really aching for a good game of Civ5 but can't bear to play until this patch hits, which kind of sucks since it could be a while.

The 10% social policy reduction from Piety finisher is lame and pathetic - 25% would make it far more attractive. Likewise Christo Redemptor. +10% gold from temples for theocracy is also lame and pathetic considering these buildings have high upkeep anyway (2 gold per turn each). OTOH, the Rationalism tree is absolutely amazingly awesome with huge boosts to happiness and research.

And I've yet to see the AI make any use whatsoever of the vastly improved naval system.

I recentyly played a game with classical era start where the peity opening is avaialble from start and it suddenly becomes verry powerfull if you want a religion..

If they just make peity avaialbe at the start you can make use of the hammers bonus for shrines and then pick extra faith so you can get a religion early...

So that it is actualy possible at higher difficulties;

What quote concerning surprises?

Star Wars episode 7??? You`re kidding.

Yes if I've spent the last 4 or 5 weeks playing and enjoying y the game . No if I've just started or its become a grind and the end is not in sight.

Yes, but what will the storyline be? There is plenty of material out there. It depends where they want to start. From what I heard was that every book written. Had to be written in within the context of Lucas's storyline, no matter who the author was. Aside from that it will be up to Disney now. So, I am sure it will be something new and interesting. Which I feel should be the way they go about creating the new trilogy. They did the same thing with the walking dead, which worked out quite well. Use the books or graphc novels for reference, but make the story your own.

Will Johnny depp be in it? LOL!

Absolutely. My life doesn't revolve around Civ, even though it has been favorite game of all time; I even took a four months break from playing until recently. It wouldn't phase me if I don't play a new game with the game until after the holidays, but I do keep up with all of the comments for entertainment purposes.

But my comment was based on recent history here at CFC. Go back to June(?) when the Civ5 patch (just before G&K) broke people's saves and all of the screaming and hollering that went on. Some of us said then, and the same as the time before and the time before that etc. that setting Steam to off-line is the simple solution if you want to finish your current game. Like nokmirt, my current game is the best I have ever done on Immortal and I still have a ways to go.

I'm with you on pretty much everything you've said up to this point. Without understanding the complexity of implementing a fix, this seems like something that Steam should at least prompt the user on.

In terms of pretty much every other point, you're spot on. I think the worst thing in the world is exposing developers to direct (un-managed) user feedback. Every product I've ever released got significantly worse with poorly managed user feedback. Have a vision, listen to your users, but if what they want doesn't make sense with what you're delivering, don't bow to the pressure of the noise. At the end of the day, its your product, your vision, make sure you're happy with it first.

I want the patch when its ready. Not a minute before. Knowing its coming in the "fall" is good enough for me.
