Hi guys!

I'm a little annoyed at Hamachi's (lack of a) chat function right now. Essentially you have to be a paying user to enter a chat with everyone in whatever network you're currently in. That's a little silly. I know setting up games works on the forums as well, but I just believe in real-time chat and in seeing who is there and available, so I went ahead and made an irc chat for us.

It's #FallFromHeaven on irc.ubermutant.net

If you haven't used IRC before, you can either download a client (the standard for windows is mIRC, which has an evaluation time but will only nag you after those 30 days) or connect to the webchat at the following url:

http://webchat.ubermutant.net

Once you're connected (either by type /server irc.ubermutant.net in mIRC or just following the above link to the webchat) type /nick <yournick> and then /join #FallFromHeaven. And that's it. I'm either Daniel or bringa in there. I haven't registered the channel yet but I don't think that's entirely necessary seeing as it's my server and I can just gline impostors ;)

I propose that anyone looking to start a game of FFH simply comes to this channel and says so. Other people interested in playing a game can just hang around there and wait to see if anything's going on.

You can chat with anyone in the same network (or networks) as you, in hamachi. Right click on the name, and choose chat (or copy ip address if they are going to host a hamachi-assisted direct-ip game). This avoids gamespy-related problems.

However, you can only chat with people who are there (white letters, not grey).

I'll check out the IRC Channel, nonetheless.

Yeah but as I pointed out that's a one on one thing. So if there's seven people you have to say the same thing seven times and then tell everyone what everyone else has been saying. Plus there's at least four different FFH networks now, so you'd have to be on all of them and keep track of new ones being founded. One central IRC channel is a lot easier.

C'mon people, where are you? I don't even play multiplayer and I'm in the channel :p

Great idea, I just had such plans in the making and it's nice to see such idea pops up at the same mome,t! :goodjob:

I'll stop bumping this... soon :p

I'd just like to mention that I see some questions around here on how to mod different things. I'm often around on IRC and I know how to do most things (except anything about art or sound). So why don't you come ask me on #erebus on irc.irc-chat.net? (same server the CFC channel is on, you can use the "chat" link on this page ^^.) Or you can come to the channel Bringa mentioned in the first post, I'm there too.
