Fallout mod.

Hi Thorgrimm,

I have made a couple of title screens for a Fallout mod.
Here is a preview of one of them.

I would like to make a sugestion for any fallout modder out there:
how about replacing SEA/OCEAN with Radiated Wastelands in order to reduce exploration and expansion in the early stages? (since there is little or no water contact in Fallout). Then create those 4-5 mobile units (buggy, hummer, apc, tank, nuke-apc) as maritime units (some of which transporters) along with a couple of on-foot explorers and wild beasts.
This would be ok, since wastelands were preety arid anyway.
Just a thought.

Glad (REALY) to see people preocupied with bringing back to life these great games. Love Fallout 2 (best RPG game E V E R ), played Fallout 1 and then also Played Tactics (which we all agree it was disapointing).

I have a request, if possible.
Please post the Fallout 2 defensive turret unit as full zip file. I would like to include it in my mod and, while I do have extracted the Tactics resources, I did not the same for Fallout 2 ones.
Thanks a lot.

About Tactics to Civ resize, I found that 70 percent is preety ok. What resize did you used so far?

This screen below I use now as replacement for standard C3C x_title.pcx. I have also replaced the menu1.mp3 with Luis Armstrong - A Kiss to Build a Dream On. Gets along quite nicely witn the caution comment there :))
I would have liked to put the minigun attack sound there too, but I remebered how close I came to a heart attack as I watched the Fallout2 intro :D

AlienKID, first off, welcome to CFC. :)

As for your idea for the oceans, it is a thought, but what i am doing is limiting naval vessels. The Enclave are the only ones who have any ships. 1 tanker, and 1 patrol boat. No more can be built, till the requisite tech is recovered.
If you look at the map shots in the screenies, you will notice that the map is covered by brown crap, that represents the aftermath of the war. As you can not use the terrain till you clean it up with workers. Which IMHO is what would occur. The terrain would once again be productive once the toxins and crap is cleaned up.
I like your civ splash screens, they are real ice. You think i might use them in FO:RoC ?
I have access to the Fallout and Fallout 2 files, but the units only have 6, instead of 8 directions. But on the good side, i can get the leaderheads and use honest to goodness Fallout talking heads! Attached is a GIF that i will be using for Aradesh, the leader of the NCR. Yes i know that Tandi is leader in FO2, but her dad, Aradesh, was in command at the end of Fallout. This is just the gif of him the background has to be added next.
I just use 175 x 175 pixels in Ulead. Look in my previous post for how i do it. :D
I have replaced all the ambient sounds with my made up Fallout ambient wavs. Haven't yet changed the music. :)

Hi Thorgrimm,

... no problem with using my screens.
here is the first one. I used jpg to upload so when transforming back to pcx decrease color depth with custom 254 (not 256, or image might get scrambled) colours.

I did not knew how to put it just as link here (since when deleting attachements to post it also deletes the same file in my personal attachements)
... so sorry for page loading problems. I will corect this in the future if someone is kind to tell me how to go around this problem.

Thanks.

AlienKID, thanks dude. As for page loading problems, i do not have any. :) My cable modem loads the page extremely fast. :D
I have a question for you? Can you make city gfx, by cut and pasting?

Cheers Thorgrimm

A few pointers from a Fallout fan (and definately not a Tactics fan. and not much of a FO2 fan):

Ghouls should be the scientists, make a ghoul version of the scientist unit from Conquests, make the Scientist citizen icon a ghoul, and make the ghoul Civ just 'Ghouls' and have them be a scientific/industrious Civ.

Brotherhood works as Militaristic/Scientific and remove Vault 0, that was just goofy.

Barbarians should be Raiders, pretty much.

I'll post here again when I think of more stuff.

Some more:

Tribals can work as a Civ, resource AND unit, spread them out.

Remake the goverments, the country is an Anarchy (everyone has their own 'groupings'), so instead make ideals that you can research in place of governments, such as one that believes in Slavery (probably replaces Despotism) (you can sell and buy Tribal Workers).

Good idea, but since i have no gfx talent, and can only use what has been made by somebody else, i can't make the new gfx
I suppose i could use Harold from FO2 as my sci advisor, but the sci leader is a no go. Unless somebody else makes it.
Yes that is what i had the Children of the Cathedral civ as scientific/industrious. :D
I like The Children of Set. So they are going to remain as that.

That is exactly what we had in mind. I had detailed that same idea a few posts back. ;)

Very good idea! Will implement it asap. :goodjob: Thanks for the ideas. If you come up with anything else feel free to suggest. As i am always on the lookout for new ideas. :)

Hate to be a killjoy, but i enjoyed FO:T. I think they screwed the pooch on the atmosphere, but i enjoyed it anyways. So the Empire of the Circuit remains.

Hi Thorgrimm,

About cut and paste :D. The way you put it, it cannot be that difficult :)
but I realy do not have the time now. (semester finish, exams, papers, a.s.o).
sorry.
maybe later this month, or maybe next month.

Now about your turret. Could you post that 1Mb file for me to download? thanks.
Anyway, I will try to contribute here and there, a little, with some of my own work and ideas.

Here is the other one. Same old same: back to pcx with custom palete of 254 colours.

AlienKid, np whenever you have time. :)
As i have about 50 more units to convert.
I suppose i could post one unit, as a teaser. So i will post the completed turret.

Turret is posted in the units forum.

Cheers Thorgrimm

Here is the invisible unit for the Empire of the Circuit, the Scurry Bot.
This unit has Default, Run, AttackA, AttackB, Death, Fidget, and Fortify.

A few comments, the fortify has the Scurry digging into the ground. After testing in game the last frame in the fortify anim is what is displayed till acitvated. So when fortified, if you are not careful when fighting the Empire you might run across one by mistake.
AttackA has the Scurry popping out of the ground.
AttackB has the Scurry actualy attacking. After in game testing it works as planned. AttackA only plays once then the rest of the attacks are just AttackB.

I read this on IGN a few days ago:

April 15, 2004 - In a public conference call with investors yesterday, Interplay CEO Herve Caen revealed plans for a new game in one of the most acclaimed PC RPG series ever.

"We're planning to publish Fallout 3," said Caen during the call's question and answer period. Caen clarified that the title is not being actively developed right now, but an official announcement is planned soon. Caen also said that development of the sequel would be handled by an external studio.

The fate of Fallout 3 has been in doubt since the closure of Black Isle Studios and the departure of lead developers such as J.E. Sawyer. While a Black Isle project code-named "Van Buren" was long rumored to be Fallout 3, the game was never revealed, and it is doubtful that the "Van Buren" work will be used in the Fallout 3 Caen mentioned yesterday.

Yay! :D

The shame is that the state of California has shut down Ineptplay till they resolve the employee back pay and insurance problems. Also Ineptplay has been booted out of their Irvine offices.
Even the owner of Ineptplay, Titus, has had their stock suspended from trading in France.
The only way Fallout 3 will see the light of day is for Ineptplay to sell the rights and someone else publishes it.

I hope they make #3. I love Fallout!!

If you give each tribe a unique "government" then how do you set it up in the editor? It seems the Ai always uses the most optimal government like in orginal civ3 every civ became communist which is so uncool. Is there a way to force civs to stick to one type?

UnscratchedFoot, We are going to be redoing the governments after the suggestion put forward a few posts ago. The minor civs, aka the tribals will not have many techs, and no govt techs. They will be forced to keep the govt, Tribalism. Also the only way they will be able to develop units with guns is for the major civs to trade the requisite techs to them. :) The other minors, the Raider clans will be forced to keep the government, Raider lifestyle.

Thanks for the turret unit you decided to upload.

Question :mischief: : could you please send me a units list (updated from time to time) you want to convert and also the ones you already converted, or even better, post it somewhere and update it on the forum as you advance?
I know you posted some, but I guess you advanced since then.

I might convert some units myself, as I get some free time, and to be of some help to you, I would need this list so that we do not overlap work.
Also, to keep consistency, I would need exact info about resizing, frame number, a.s.o.

George

I wonder if anyone has went out and bought these games because of this thread. I would have!

UnscratchedFoot, good question! :D
I have a none era tech that all the govts require and is non tradeable, that only the Major civs get.
