Fantasy NES: Sekai

I agree with das... So bloated that they don't believe in heros anymore: only numbers: so lets get a +80 Adventurer and take them ON! WOOOOOOT!

(Also, I never realized how large we are. I am the Proportionate size of, say, teh swiss.)

I have been unexpectantly absent but finally I have been able to come back to this after RL events out of my control.

So when are the next orders due?

Welcome back Slavic.

I don't know what set of orders you were on. We are on Turn 4 now, so that's more orders "due" (to be posted in the other thread).

How many sets of orders did you post in the other thread as of yet? I don't know if I saw any. In which case Turn 4 would be your first turn.

By the way, my main army should be arriving just about now.

By the way, my main army should be arriving just about now.

Noted. I have to pack and all today, and then fly out later, though I might have Internet late tonight and then I'll be able to post some stories. I might also get some in this early afternoon.

All right, that is the only story I have time for today. I must pack and fly out. Sorry the story is sort of brief, but again, its all I had time for. I kind of wanted it to be vague, anyway, because the events of those skirmishes are supposed to be somewhat mysterious.

Behave yourselves. :D

A'ca has returned! :run:!

On a more serious note. A dwarf who lost his all his brothers, his father. All his sons. all his uncles and cousins and nephews begun to go mad and is making a automatic pick against the mountain. Tell me what happens?

Well-played, Mister Mod. ;)

I guess we did our best, though I am a bit confused about those barricades; did the undead attack the barricaded houses from within/below?

Also, what types of undead were there - just the animated skeletons, or also some classical ghouls and zombies and maybe a few more intricate anatomical constructions? And how massive is massive? Are we talking thousands or more?

Tell me what happens?

He throws a tantrum?

EDIT: kkmo, as you might have noticed if you looked in the Vacation thread, I will be gone for most of July. I hope there won't be any problems with NPCing the Malthen Kingdom; I intend to provide some reasonably extensive instructions, and possibly a detailed write up of the kingdom (politics, personalia, social structure, culture, etc. - I've been making them semi-intentionally confusing up until now) for your modding and story purposes.

A preface to this before I tell you. That story was meant to be vague, because your people did not get a good look at the situation before they had to retreat. But I'll explain it to you OOC.

The people within the barricades were demons. They did not know they were demons, so they barricaded themselves in, but little did they know their souls had already been devoured. So they morphed into their actual demon form and broke out of the barricades to attack the troops. Please note that Malthen knows nothing of this OOC - for all they know, something attacked the people within the homes. But the odd circumstances would lead some to believe otherwise. Malthen's troops are not idiots.

The monsters that emerged from the barricades are a special kind of creature that I made up. I am still thinking up more detailed anatomy, but basically it is a type of grotesque demon. There are various sub-species of this one type of creature, but the anatomical differences between the sub-species are somewhat minimal. Maybe, one type of the creature is very large and fat and blundering, but severely strong, while others are smaller but more agile.

I am actually in the works of creating several of my own types of creatures, this is just one of them. I will explain why, but this knowledge is all OOC.

Basically, a portal has been opened to somewhere. :D That is all the information I can give right now. The actual kingdom within your borders is rather safe at this point, so don't worry too much. You held your ground as much as possible amidst chaos. As for the amount of skeletons, you don't know for sure, but appearing in the town... maybe 500 or so? The are rather weak, though. Its the other monsters you should worry about, and there are maybe 100 of those.

The presence of the skeletons and the appearance of demons are, actually, contrary to what you all may think, quite unrelated. It is not a portal to "hell" (there is no hell in Sekai, first of all... maybe at most an underworld of sorts where necromancy originated [necromancy is, bringing the dead alive and discovering a way to cheat death - demons are unrelated to this practice], but things are not nearly as black and white in this world). Please note: If "hell" is ever mentioned in this NES, as in the line "What the hell?" or any reference to hell as a location, it simply means the Underworld. Hell is slang for Underworld, but Sekai's Underworld is far different than any typical Christian view of hell in our real world. And no I am not ripping off Diablo. What these "demons" are is much, much different. Sekai's underworld is not hell. Bad people do not go there when they die. Demons do not come from there. It is a magical region, so to speak, in which necromancy came to be and a few gods used as a playground. I have more information on this, but, like I said, it is completely unrelated to the demons or the matters at hand. So, I have gone way off-topic at this point. Oops.

Yes, and I will be gone half of July, more or less - but I'll have Internet access through a lot of this post-July 7. You leave the 3rd, your post said, and I leave today, so I guess we will chat again when you return from your trip (archaeological practice... sounds interesting Indy ;)). Feel free to PM me all of that stuff you just mentioned, or post it in this thread or the other thread (if its IC). Any of these options are fine. I will take good care of Malthen, and I mean that in the least sinister way possible.

maybe at most an underworld of sorts where necromancy originated

I think that necromancy would have to originate in the world itself; the underworld (if it is an underworld and not something else that is nonetheless connected with necromancy) is possibly what's needed to make it work, basically a power source.

Anyway, have those "demons" (is "soul-dispossessed persons" a suitable politically-correct term? :p Or is it about something else as well?) ever been mentioned/noticed before in our known history? By mortals, I mean. In any case, I assume that for now our troops just think it is yet another type of undead, though the general might possibly guess that it's something else (depends on whether or not it has been noticed before).

The demon has been seen in Sekai before, but not since long ago or in other very sparse situations that have been put into the dusty history books.

Well, you need electricity in order for power lines to exist, so one could argue the existence of an underworld is basis for necromancy. The god that brought the underworld/afterlife to Sekai/the real world was channeling it via necromancy. I guess the more appropriate term would be, "from which the basis of necromancy originated", as opposed to labeling an actual place in which the dark arts sprung up. Finding a precise location and time for the creation of something that has developed over thousands of years is near impossible, any way.

Wow. This Internet access is slow as all hell. I have been incredibly patient waiting for this whole page to load while I type this. Sheesh. Anyway, for the new players that have joined, from tomorrow to Sunday I will not around here at all.

Haseri, as for Larum's advantage, you choose an advantage by adding 1 to a military stat, or adding 2 and taking away one.
Some examples...

+1 Attack for Infantry
+1 Movement for Cavalry

etc. +1 Something to Some Type of Unit.

Or, you can say:

+2 Attack for Infantry
-1 Attack for Cavalry

etc. +2 Something to Some Type of Unit / +1 Something, +1 Something else, then -1 Something else.

I hope I made that as confusing for you as possible. :D I'm tired from flying all day. It was hellish. Very hellish. In any case, welcome back Haseri. I am glad to have a Gnome kingdom around these parts.

Everyone and everything else, please put on hold until Sunday. Use this time to move troops, characters, talk to other players about what you may do in the near future, etc. I will not be able to post responses to any stories until Sunday, so please be patient for those.

Feel free to post as much as you want while I'm gone, and I will respond to it all when I return! Build-up/extra stories while I am gone will get you bonuses, if they are good and genuinely interesting.

The forces heading to Xal'Amul, be patient. If you get there while I am gone, which you will, just set up a perimeter around Xal'Amul's southern border and wait until I return before you actually launch an attack. Or, launch the attack, post about it, and have patience for when I return.

You can attack stuff while I'm gone, but the down-side if you choose to do this is I won't be able to tell you what happened until I return.

Anyway, I'm tired. Talk to you all on Sunday.

Hi, just said I want my character to be set on a hiatus until I have more time for him. :) I have missed 1 update, as far as I'm concerned?

Not sure. We are on Turn 4 right now. That means 5 orders total including the prelims.

Take your time. Quality over quantity. That is what this NES is all about, really. While my updates are simply links to the stories going on right now, I shouldn't be expected ridiculous write-ups on each kingdom each update. That is what players are for, and that is why I am allowing players to continue to develop their realms and characters. Interacting with each other is important, and just telling me what you want, and then maybe not getting it, isn't as fun as you directing your kingdom and getting what you want if you put the time and the intelligence into it. The stories going on during Turns compromise the over-arching "update" concept. I write plenty for this NES in my various story responses, which, when added together each turn, compromise the overall text for an update.

So I suppose this "NES" might be rather unorthodox in this way. That and I didn't name it after myself. :p

human-slaughter, while I'm gone, feel free to start posting for your guild and making orders and such. You start on Turn 4 for your orders. If you need any assistance, PM me and I'll help you when I get back. Though, das (who is on vacation), flyingchicken, Ninja Dude, Charles, Strategos, all the other players are knowledgeable on the rules as well, even for guilds, so I'm sure they'd be happy to help you as well. You can start posting stories and such, and I can reply to your plot when I return.

I'm sorry I forgot that I have to reply for Afuria because the Afurian player is no longer around. Your reply is now up.

Ninja Dude, I am looking forward to seeing the weirdest weapons of Glotrith, by the way. Modern Marvels. :D

Considering the recent events since my last story, I think I've trashed the idea.

What recent events? I'm one to encourage the development of kingdoms and any specifics you might want to tell us about your kingdom. Bonuses will be obtained this way.

The more I thought about it I realised that a story devoted to just weird weapons would be rather strange to pull off.

However, one strange weapon is featured in my upcoming story.

I'm following Ninja's troops until this is done with!

Speaking of troop movements, kkmo, should I just move my troops in one big group? With you having limited access to the internet you may not be able to cover all the stuff going on if I have scouts moving around, hit and run attacks, stuff like that.
