Fantasy NES: Sekai

So, I send movement orders again for today? If so, move from M6 to L5.

Its up to you. You can be that specific, or you can just say you are going to the shapeshifter. Just be sure to tell me when you get to the shapeshifter.

Germanicus, I have added you, I just need to upload it. The delay is that I have made some new NPCs. :)

My armory entry.

Weapon Name: Used to be Prein. After the fight with Shiv, it is now called Vengeance
Character: Selot/Mythmonster2
Type: Two-handed Sword

Description: It is a large sword, some 5 feet long and about 3 inches wide. Heavy, too, but Selot is accustomed to it. It does, however, have a point, and the entire blade is shaped similar to a spear head or arrowhead. Another thing, it is steel on the outside, the cutting portion of the blade, yet in the middle of the blade, it is black. It is like no other metal. Also, some runes on it crafted in a gold-like metal give strength to its owner in times of need.

History: Vengeance has a long history, longer than most people have lived. It is Selot's family's treasure, passed down from father to son. It was made with ordinary steel, and a metal long forgotten. So long forgotten, in fact, noone even knows its name anymore. The runes were engraved many years ago, when its first owner, the person for whom Selot was named, held it. His name was Selot. He was a magnificent soldier and a cunning general, respected by friend and foe alike. Many times, he put himself at the front of an army, the white and black sword in hand. One night, an enemy attempted to steal it, but upon reaching the tent and grasping the sword, it became too heavy to lift, and Selot woke up. Grasping it easily, he revealed to the thief Vengeance was, in a way, alive. It could choose its owner. If someone who it did not choose attempted to wield it, it would be impossible to lift. Now the sword is in Selot's hands, and he will cut his own fate with it.

No problem, I have one more question that I realized after watching LoTR: Return of the King.

Can I have a 'character' in my army like Aragorn? He can be like real good general or something.....

This has been brought up before. Right now, there is no official system as to allowing realm's to have characters. However, you can definitely have him be a character that you can include in your stories and posts. We have just not yet figured out a balanced way to have him include stats.

It is best that for now, he is someone that has story purposes, that leads your armies and such, but does not have any stats or game mechanic contributions to your kingdom. After all, every realm needs characters, whether it be generals, politicians, and so on - so if I let each kingdom have characters, then there will be so many to choose from. I need to come up with a balanced system for kingdom characters.

And even when I do come up with that system, I still want kingdom/city-state players to have characters without stats that are central to their stories. For now, this is what you should do.

So essentially, all realms should technically have a variety of characters that should be posted about in your stories. For now, they have no effect on your stats, but I will eventually figure out a system for this.

DISCLAIMER: The last two stories may be a bit violent. This NES is rated PG13 or T for Teen.

And the map has been updated. Please welcome one new PC kingdom, Nohar, and two new NPC kingdoms.

There is Sykuta, an Orcish kingdom. And there is Tienming, which is a human kingdom (Asian). :) Sekai is not beyond having human ethnicities, and it will be cool to have in this fantasy environment a medieval Chinese setting in that area of Sekai. Tienming is a famous concept. "Mandate of Heaven", and I'm naming it that because this noble human kingdom will think that their king was indeed sent by the heavens, or perhaps their entire kingdom.

In case you guys haven't noticed, the shapeshifter(s) might be a bit difficult at this point in the game. Still, bestshot's dwarves can go there and try to spy on them and get word back to Du Farthen az Kurlan or Dorovel as to what is going on. Sending an army there might do more harm than good.

Kkmo, that last story bout the shapeshifters (that was the shapeshifters, right?) was super awesome, can't wait to see how my 2 dwarves are going to handle what 105 others couldn't.

And how did 10 fingers turn into 10 tenticles (they didn't multiply) and strangle them one by one?

EDIT: only 11! advert my eyes!

All we need is some goblin or gnome kingdom research gunpowder and have them blow up the shapshifters' mountian. Or we could just seal off all enterances and leave them alone. If they leave their mountain they probably can't sneak up on people to easily.

That's when we'll bring in the experimental Person Chucka a.k.a a modified catapault. I'll let you imagine what the next step is.

Profit!!!

He must have, like, 200 attack. Or else kkmo is a kind god, I meanm... nevermind.

EDIT: prehaps the undead god...

My theory is that the mountain itself is alive. It absorbed alot of magic from the previous wars between the gods. This somehow gave it the ability to think and act on its own. Now it either hates everyone for some reason, or it just hates anyone disturbing its peace or something.

Xalas's war could have awoken it along with the recent expansion of dwarves and goblins. It's clear that the shapshifter and all of those that appeared near him are somehow related to the mountain.

Just leave it to Grothmag and Norgoth, they'll take care of your shapeshifter problem for ya ;).

Please use the Person Chucka though. that'd be the best thing in this NES ever. All mighty shapeshifters being flung off of a mountain with a catapault.

Or you could just kill them or something. But that would be boring. Atleast hit them in the face with a fish before doing battle with them.

Unless their attack and defense stats add up to over 1,000, I wouldn't make any promises. ;)

Just remember that the shapeshifters have not left that cave. They haven't attacked any of you upfront. They have been in defense.

That is all.

Also, lets seriously try to keep OOC and other clutter out of the main game thread.

Just drag them out of the cave and see what happens. They're probably (like I said before) actual pieces of the mountain come to life. They probably just want to be left alone but can be grumpy when someone enters the mountain.

I should be a detective or something.

You guys should replace those OOC-esque posts in the other thread with a couple paragraphs of something interesting. Maybe how your troops are holding up amidst each other. I particularly have enjoyed a lot of your stories, Ninja Dude, involving hungry goblin battles and pet skeletons.

And wait. So you guys have a bunch of troops at J5. So where's the army heading towards Xal'Amul?

That is the army I'm sending to Xal'Amul. I'm just getting all my troops together at a safe location so I can manage everything a little easier. I don't know if you know this, but managing troop movements in this game is somewhat difficult. Especially with the different movement values and stuff.

I'm not doing to much in terms of action so I'm having trouble thinking of a story. Once I get to Xal' Amul I should be able to pump out a couple more stories. then again, I could always do another historical report on some battle like the one with the drunken goblins.;)

I don't really see how they are that difficult. If you want all your troops to stay together, use the lowest movement unit's movement value, and send them all that way.

Or you can be a smart tactician and just send all your cavalry to the borders of Xal'Amul, order them to camp in various places around the desert, serving as both scouts, and as the shock troops who take care of any scattered undead forces outside of Xal'Amul's border, and then your infantry will come in later with the archers. Tactically, this is why cavalry exist anyway, and to be fast on the actually battlefield, but in a fantasy world, they serve as great scouts and shock troops to take care of any unwanted nuisances and finding out anything about defenses, or other dangers, before the bulk of troops arrive. After that initial stage, they would be good at waiting for the infantry to do a head-on attack, and then come in on a flank as powerful battlefield units. Images of Gandalf riding down a hill with the Rohan Riders come to mind.

But if you don't want to do that, seriously, just using the military unit with the lowest movement stat as a standard seems pretty easy to me.

Here's this so far:

Spoiler Armory :

The Bloody Hand
Character: Grimfist
Type: Heavy spiked club
Description: A hardwood club that's very much larger (and almost as much heavier) on the hitting end, which has several protruding spikes of metal. It is mostly brown of varying shades with streaks of black, while the metal bits are predominantly dull gray with specks of rusty red. It looks very old and very worn out of use.
History: The cult of Yurtrus (which was just one of quite a few found in several orcish societies) was a very small one, not because of any orcish aversion to a god of death and disease but because of its grim rituals. In one of these, the Rites of Succession, the Hand of Yurtrus plays a central role.
The Rites of Succession is a simple ceremony, where the standing head of the cult is about to retire after exactly nine years of service. His chosen successor, usually his protégé, is to beat him to death until he is an unrecognizable mass of blood in the style of sacrificial offerings to Yurtrus.
Grimfist was the next in line before he left the cult, and was in fact its head for a year or so before leaving. He claimed that the cult has "become so obsessed with its rites and ceremonies that it has forgotten the true teachings of Yurtrus--to bring death and destruction to all." He had kept the ceremonial club since then, marking a symbolic and then literal disbanding of the cult.
The club, by means of careful appraisal, is standard orcish fare--or, ar least, was, for it is extremely antiquated in style. It might have been part of a weapons cache of an ancient army, then discovered and used by the founding members of the cult of Yurtrus which Grimfist was a member of.

Meatcleaver
Character: Gnash
Type: Greatsword
Description: A large greatsword in a rustic orcish style. Its metal blade is a stony gray, while its cloth-covered hilt and handle are black. It used to have orcish script running along the blade, perhaps at one time a magic ward or a smith's signatory mark, but now it is eroded away by time and repeated rough use. There are several chips and dents along its two sharp edges, which are kept up to shape despite frequent abuse. It has no scabbard.
History: Meatcleaver was a once-magical sword of a realtively peaceful orc tribe's office champion and defender, forged, reforged, and re-enchanted with every new generation of the tribe. One day, however, a group or roving raiders under Blackarm the Angry tore across the little village with ease, and the champion--despite being unbelievably strong and skilled--fell and his possessions looted. His special sword went to Blackarm, since he always received the lion's share of every raid.
Gnash was the eldest son of Blackarm the Angry. As such, he was to inherit his father's possessions, not the least of which was Meatcleaver and a top position in the orcish gang. That was not an arrangement that could sustain itself, given Gnash's propensity towards forgetfulness and oft-striking stupidity, and not long after Blackarm's death the bandits went on forming their own factions and soon led to the breakup of the band.

Stinger
Character: Skizzmo
Type: Dagger
Description: A simple, slender dagger. Small, thin, and light, it looks more like an over-sized needle than an actual dagger. It is a dull metallic black in its entirety. It is well-maintained.
History: Although Skizzmo has an assortment of knives, daggers, icepicks, and other sharp and pointed implements, Stinger has been with him since the high point of his career as a professional thief-for-hire. He found it in the possessions of an elven wizard, took it, named it Stinger, and found its style and shape just perfect for his needs.
The dagger has no magical properties, despite having been in a wizard's home. It was, however, the family heirloom of the said wizard, though the elf had so little to his name that trying to sell the dagger to rival families was an unprofitable venture.

The Darkroot Staff
Character: Ichthys
Type: Magical staff
Description: A gnarled wooden staff of pure black--indeed, it looks as though it radiates darkness, and might have been magically enchanted to do so. It has a simple blood-red orb at one end, inside of which darkness (lieterally and figuratively) swirls about. The orb held there by twisted, entangling wood, reminiscent of vines. It is as longer than Ichthys is tall.
History: During the chaos of the Second Age, Ichthys--or whatever his name was back then--was a dark elf wizard-for-hire who fought on several sides of the devastating series of wars. His staff has been by his side in all those occasions, both as a focus point of his magical energies and as a whacking stick when things got too close for comfort.
The staff was made purely through magic, from the roots of an ancient tree empowered with--surprise, surprise-the powers ancient forest-spirits. It wasn't exactly the nicest thing he could have done, but considering that the tree was cut down by orcs months later and that he's a mad wizard bent on escaping death, it's really that much of a big deal.
The staff had been broken several times, for many who had faced him in his prime as a lich thought it was his phylactery. He wasn't an idiot, of course, to have his phylactery within easy reach--the true vessel of his undeath is, in fact, several planes away, accessible only to him... as most liches do.

Thymus
Character: Odon
Type: Arming Sword (broken)
Description: A typical arming sword. The hilt has stylized thyme in gold running across the cross-guard while the pommel has a golden liturgical Elven inscription translated to “Given as a reward for a glorious deed/Worn to accomplish more.”
History: Given by the Grandmaster of the Order of the White Rose to Odon after Odon saved the Grandmaster’s life in a battle.

???
Character: Odon
Type: Mace
Description: The mace’s head is attached to an iron shaft. The head itself is fashioned to take on the appearance of a skull, with two rubies set in the eye holes. Red writing of an unknown (at least to Odon) language snakes down the shaft.
History: After Thymus broke in battle, Odon grabbed a mace off of a fallen foe to use. Odon was fighting undead at the time, and the fallen foe was a necromancer, which might explain the mace’s peculiar shape.

Infantryman's Axe
Character: Grothmag Silverhelm
Type: Double-headed axe.
Description: A standard-issue Dorovellian infantryman's axe. With two heads, it is a heavy yet capable weapon, perfect for any Dwarf. Nothing fancy, it is obvious it has seen some use. There is scaring all over the weapon, yet it is still in good condition.
History: Forged in the bowels of the Dorovellian armory, this weapon was issued to Grothmag Silverhelm upon joining the Dorovellian Militia.

Standard-Issue Bow
Character: Norgoth Ironbow
Type: Recurve (not long) bow.
Description: A simple bow, grown in the underground caves of Dorovel. Not a fancy weapon either, but still very practical. In the hands of a skilled archer, very deadly.
History: Made from the branches of the underground trees, this weapon was issued to Norgoth Ironbow upon joining the Dorovellian militia as an archer and scout.

Vengeance
Character: Selot
Type: Two-handed Sword
Description: It is a large sword, some 5 feet long and about 3 inches wide. Heavy, too, but Selot is accustomed to it. It does, however, have a point, and the entire blade is shaped similar to a spear head or arrowhead. Another thing, it is steel on the outside, the cutting portion of the blade, yet in the middle of the blade, it is black. It is like no other metal. Sekaians! NOTICE!

I will be gone all day tomorrow because I will be on a plane. I will be able to post a bit tomorrow night. From Wednesday to Sunday, I will NOT have Internet access! I will probably have it on Sunday night. From Sunday to July 14 I will have Internet access, though not necessarily all day as I have lately had. From Wednesday to Sunday, please do not do anything of much importance, because I won't be around to respond. Just use this time to have all your troops or characters move to a location or wait, train, come up with some sub-stories during this time and other such things. You don't need me around to write your own sub-stories, and these are always encouraged.

I feel that we have a fairly intimate group of players for this NES, and I also feel it has gone very well thus far. As such, I am confident that no problems will arise in that period from Wednesday to Sunday.

That is all.
