As the title says.

For a long while, I've been obsessed with fastest domination win. However, I've more or less hit a ceiling, from where I don't seem to make any more progress. Tried uping to deity, however, what I get from faster tech pace I lose from ai having more units.

The discussion is for a fractal, random map, random leader, emperor to deity level(as wierd as it may sound, fastest win was actually on emperor). Goal would be to win as fast as possible(as in year, not as in highest score).

Obviously not all starts are equal; however, in the situation of a great start:

Even from looking only at demographics, the game is in the bag.

However:

Would it end faster if taking over the continent in a boring rifle war, or if letting the ai be and peacefully developing?

Assumptions:

- internet is a given(normally it allows me to skip rocketry/arti/flight/with some luck fission);
- any invasion can be repelled(duh... noone won while dying :p )
- probably sushi/mining is a given;

Pros of taking over the ai lands:

- err... more land :p
- probably way higher commerce/research per city due to corps;
- human micro management exists, ai micro management is nowhere to be found;

Cons:

- losing their bonus in research(which varies with level obviously, but I feel that the human better micro management is offset in a good proportion by their bonus);
- time it takes to develop your conquests;
- losing the ai gpp which, even as crappy as it's used, still provides them with something; same for overall having more GAs, or lower maintenance since the ai holds some land, and so on(remember, space race it's about mustering a certain number of beakers - even if you get, let's say, refrigeration or fusion for... dunno, robotics, or something as imbalanced as that, still, refrigeration or fusion obtained from trade are more or less "free beakers" as long as the guy doesn't use the mech infs on you);

I think the best idea would be to get a lot of land EARLY but then hold off any military action from 500 AD on (or earlier). This would get you a fast space win.

In your case, however, it really depends. I would advocate a rifle war. All the land you get will increase your tech rate in the end.

Pretty much what DMOC said, and after the renaissance era any conquests (industrial onwards) aren't going to speed up space race much. You should conquer Boudica if only to stop her from being a nuisance later on.

The earlier the better, and with this in mind your best bet is Darius/Huayna Capac for early rushes. Slower speeds help because you get your cities up and running sooner (less time spent settling/capturing cities).

Wait, is the fastest ever space win (I assume on Hall of Fame?) on Emperor?

no, just my personal best(ok, the random start was better then others I had, I'm still convinced I should get better on immortal - deity might be abit problematic if late game diplo doesn't work out)

Play settler, settle ridiculous land at virtually no expense with barbs off, and just go with that.

sounds like a plan :p Though I'd pass ;)

talking in general; take off 1-2 ais or not.

In this case, boudica would've been safe with military struggle and religion and so on though I couldn't help myself :p (budhism being the only thing on the continent). Same for gilly with religion and ob and yadayada, though... yeah, still couldn't :p

also had sistine, so the tiles were safe

There are very few bts space colony wins in hof... Since gm-38 is emperor and space that is probably going to be the fastest until it comes some faster condition for the gmajor/minor.

Are you talking about Vanilla or BTS? In BTS they delayed the space victory significantly, with several very expensive and useless techs in the end. The idea is to not blast ahead too quickly, because otherwise you won't have any oppertunities to trade, nothing to pull in from The Internet and no reductions from another discovered civ knowing the tech. The full cost of those techs are truly frightening.

Obviously at settler difficulty you will blast through the thing. I don't play anything below Noble personally, so to answer your question, I would try noble or deity, the former because you can acquire large tracts of land very soon, the latter because you will never need to research something that nobody has not done so already.

My personal rule is that you can do a good SS race with 8 cities ( of course that this probably is not optimal ).The way you get it is irrelevant :p , and the balance between the options you presented IMO is more a function of cost of settler+ cost of city maintenance + cost of development vs cost of army to capture and keep it than anything else.

:eek:Wow, I've beaten emperor with almost every leader, and immortal about 10 times and I think my earliest launch is 1890 something.

Current emperor record is a HoF submission of 1706 as per G major 38 on emperor. Emperor is a slow difficulty though. The player gets no tech benefits, and yet the AI still techs too slowly to have anything meaningful to trade that late in the game.

Other than the lowest of low difficulties, I'd guess deity or immortal would both have a faster theoretical best possible time than emp, just because the AIs will speed up global tech pace early.

I too, however, haven't really gone below the late 1890's ever. Then again, this is my least favorite victory condition other than time.

Dynamic has a settler win where he built Apollo in the BCs ;)

honestly, probably was a close to hof start(2 gems, but only one food), plus I reload on ocassions; however, it ticks me off it's been there for months - was one of the 1st games after I got bts(that's why I lowered to emp. in the 1st place) :p

So I started wondering if my policy to hog every tile for myself and kick everyone is actually best and hoped someone did abit more research on this(much like tmit, I don't like space).
