Does any one specific religion hold any advantage over another? Other than with regard to diplomacy, would it be advantageous to have any specific one for the purpose of wonders, etc.?

I have noticed many advantages with confucism, or however you spell it. You get expereince bonuses, 25% faster building rate, and more

Thank you. Sorry about the over-sight.

Sorry to tell you, but that goes for any religion, just depends on what religious civic you use.

Organized Religion: +25% build rate for buildings
Theocracy: +4(?) exp per unit
Passcifism: +100% GPP

That's for all cities with the state religion. Doesn't matter if your buddist, or Catholic, or Islam, you all get the same bonuses - +1 happy, +1 culture, +<enter thing here> for religion civic.

Sorry to tell you, but 'Catholic' is not in the game. 'Christianity' is, but the game does not differentiate between the different sects of Christianity. Perhaps some day Civilization will provide a civilization with Martin Luther as a great person, who can then invent Protestantism. But until then, there is only Christianity in the game, no Catholics, no Protestants, etc...

I favor Christianity, because it comes with Theocracy, so you don't get any other religion in your cities and you have an experience bonus.:goodjob:

geek knight,

Why is not getting any other religions in your cities a bonus?

The only downsides I guess are that;

(a.) Isabella or Montezuma or someone like that may 'come a knocking' and demand that you swap to their faith - which is possible if just one of your cities possesses that 'foreign' religion. This might mean you're under some pressure to switch out of a religion that is widespread in your empire and granting widespread beneifits, and forced to adopt a religion with limited spread and limited benefit.

(b.) That some other tribe is getting a view at your city garrisons and yielding some shrine gold.

Other than that, I would have thought that wide religious spread would overall be a good thing. Lots of Monasteries and Temples means more science and happiness respectively. Furthermore, with; Angkor Wat, Sistine Chapel and the Representation civic, running Priest Specialists made possible by religious buildings can be an effective approach.

Does culture value have any effect on spreading religion to other cities/empires, or is it all a matter of waiting a certain number of turns?

Eh, I went to a catholic school so the term was always used interchangably for years
That, and I forgot which was the religion that you could use ingame. It's rare that anyone in my games uses it at all. :undecide:

With culture, I don't believe it plays a role. All religions spread at a certain rate, and only thing that speeds it up is having the shrine for it or missionaries.

I guess if u get other religions in your cities iS NOT a bonuses because e.g if it NOT found by u then if u attack other cities your unhappiness will rise very fast
I wanna to join my motherland!

am I right?

No, that's just when you've taken other another civ's city and the people there wish to convert back to their founding Civ. Really, the only downside is that the AI or other players can see your city if the religion in your city is their state, but even then, it's not that big a deal if you play your cards right ;)

Not really. The vast majority of the time additional religions are beneficial. The only small penalties are :

1) AI may get 1gpt from the shrine for the religion being in your city

2)You may get a small unhappiness penalty for attacking a civ with that religion as a state religion

While in theory the AI could also see what is going on around your city with the state religion line of sight, in practice the AI is utterly incapable of doing anything with that information, so there is no real penalty here.
