I should probably add a poll to this but there have been so many famous feminists it's hard to know where to start. Personally I nominate Emma Watson.

I'd also rather this steer clear from a profeminist/antifeminist debate and just discuss which feminist you like the best.

My latest favorite one is Dr Keith Ablow:

Fox News and the Republican Party do far more to further women's rights than anybody.

In all seriousness, Ellen Pao is my favorite feminist.

Obama of course. I mean, he gave them the right to vote didnt he? He also made it so you didnt have to pay your car insurance, gave you your job, let minorities make white males their slaves, achieved peace in the middle east. Obama is god and clearly the best feminist ever.

Thanks Obama.

Please step outside and check your privilege.

But what about Sarkeesian? Her feminist ways have enlightened a path to a new era of feminism.

Don't you know? Sarkeesian is literally going to take your video games out of your childrens' mouths.

But I thought Hillary Clinton did that? Oh I know, MSNBC must have lied again.

To be fair, the video games should be where their place should be. In their hands. I believe that Sarkeesian is moving the video games to their proper place, which is something we all should strive towards.

A Redpill MRA homophobic programming professor and Rand Paul supporter was teaching a class on Adam, known gender criminal.

"Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Adam and accept that he was the most highly-evolved euphoric and rational being the world has ever known, even greater than Anita Sarkeesian!"

At this moment, a brave, liberal, pro-choice ACLU law professor who had won 1500 supreme court cases and understood the necessity of progressive taxation and fully supported all social welfare programs democratiically chosen by the electorate stood up and held up a Xbox controller.

"How many trigger buttons are on this controller, CIS scum?"

The arrogant professor smirked quite manly and testeronally replied, "Two you stupid feminist!"

"Wrong. Video games promote rape culture. It there were only two trigger buttons as you say...then pushing Start nine times shouldn't be triggering me."

The professor was stoically shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of The Selfish Gene. He stormed out of the room shaking those impotent libertarian fists.

The students applauded and all registered Green that day and accepted Anita Sarkeesian as a unfairly preyed upon figure. A horse named "Healthy at Every Size" galloped into the room, brayed his and or her's mighty but sensitive bray, and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance minus the phrase "under God" was read severla times, and Eve herself showed up and gave a lecture about the Bible's terrible treatment of women.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of overdosing on testosterone and steroids and was forced to take culture sensitivity classes for all eternity.

Don't say hurtful things to one another. p.s. medicaid for illegals

Feminism is a range of movements and ideologies that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve equal political, economic, cultural, personal, and social rights for women

I am a feminist.

As such, I am probably my favourite feminist, because to be honest I don't know much about many other feminists, and I know myself very very well. I know exactly what I stand for - and I stand for equality of the genders in all ways that make sense for intelligent creatures to be equal before the eyes of the law.

This is obviously an absurd position to take, because there have been likely many triumphant and courageous feminists in the past fighting for people to even consider women's rights and that the genders should actually be equal before the law. That women did not have the right to vote in most (all?) places so recently is still kind of mind-blowing to me. Those first pioneers who fought for women's rights when nobody was willing to listen - one of those women probably deserves the label of "my favourite feminist". I have nothing to lose by being a feminist - those women probably had a lot. I just don't know about them, because I haven't studied much about feminist history, so I don't know of any feminists from that era. But whoever was responsible, would probably inspire me.. what feminist could I pick except for the one who was brave enough to get the ball rolling and to stand up to society first?

And that's why I am my favourite feminist, even though I don't consider myself to be one at all. But .. well.. look at that definition wikipedia gives - it is incredibly broad.

How long have you identified as a female?

Joke related to Rachel Dolezal thread.

Excellent post.

One of the things that makes me upset about elections and voting is all the Canadian women who just shrug off their right to vote. It wasn't easy for women to get the right to vote in Canada, and it's dishonorable to act like that doesn't matter.

Here's an interesting overview of the history of feminism in Canada, and of course the first feminists most Canadian women hear about are the Famous Five.

The first article includes some interesting material regarding women and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the second article discusses, among other things, the movement to have women be granted legal personhood - something we didn't get until 1929.
