February 2021 Update - Patch Notes Discussion

As mentioned in our stream, the fix for the tourism bug with Monopolies is coming. Turnaround for bugs in the wild can take a while—we have to hear about it, confirm it, test it, make sure everything is okay. In the meantime, keep in mind that the multiplier only gets compounded if you have multiple monopolies—industries and corporations alone have no effect.

I like the balance changes and the realignment of policy card slots to better reflect the use case of each government. I also like the AI changes, they should (hopefully) help it handle the late-game a bit better. Of course, with the AI making so many sub-optimal empire-building decisions along the way, most games are already decided before that point... I hope that aspect of the AI gets some attention in future patches.

Thanks for making an official statement. As long as it's noticed and being worked on, then I'm happy. :)

Carl said on the livestream that they have changed color on some of the policy cards. No information on that in the patch notes.

allows players to create 2 custom pools of leaders for their single and multiplayer games

¿Only two? :shake:

There go my hopes of creating era-based or continent-based pools to taylor a game. (For it to have a random civ of each continent/culture, or a random civ of a different era, in example)

Seafaring Clan, my kind of clan :)
Portuguese dominance at sea will be reestablished! Pax Lusitana!

Wow, that earth goddess nerf, RIP. Although honestly, it's still a fairly good pantheon. I like the government balance changes and natural wonder balances (although I play with terra mirabilis anyway, so I'm not sure they will effect me unless I play on Switch again... which I won't do until the hall of fame is fixed)

I didn't expect a moopoly tourism fix this quickly, but I was hoping for a "what would make this deal work?" button fix and the "people become friends anyway even though you reject them" fix. Hopefully next patch.

Bull Moose Teddy and the Preserve now exist: it makes sense that they would nerf Earth Goddess. For those who have the NFP, though. For those who don't, may they rest in peace.

Is anyone else going to talk about how tall play is being buffed with the Audience Chamber and Entertainment Complex Building Buffs?

Woodland Clan – Prefers to place their Outposts in or adjacent to woods and rainforests. They prefer greater numbers of ranged units than melee units and use them for both attack and defense.

Wood Elves.

Rover Clan – Require a nearby Horse resource and prefer to place their Outposts in open terrain away from woods. They prefer as many mounted units as possible, using both light and heavy cavalry for attack and defense.

Chariot Clan – Require a nearby Horse resource and prefer to place their Outposts in the desert. They prefer mounted vehicles and light cavalry in all roles, rarely using ranged units at all.

Should be useful to identify Horse resources in advance.

We're missing a Clan that spawns next to Iron, for the same purpose. I'm leaving this suggestion here for a modder. Chariot Clan could probably be removed.

What am I doing wrong? I am in my Steam account on my library "home" page, and I can find nothing. The update has not yet downloaded for me.

Could someone help?

I didn't watch the stream and so I didn't catch this address of the tourism bug, I think it would be fair to assume that I am in the majority of users in that respect. A tweet or some other announcement would be appreciated. Thanks for stating something on the matter here. I think you should expect to take some flak for this one though, for two reasons. First the Monopolies modifier doesn't seem like some corner case that could have only arisen when people started playing the game, so mentions of the turnaround time of bugs in the wild doesn't really wash. Second this is a mode that so many of us were hyped for and wish to keep active in all our games. Even if workarounds are available its disappointing to feel like you can't play the full realisation of the game mode.

Lastly it would be great to know what the vision for this mode is. You mention that "the multiplier only gets compounded if you have multiple monopolies—industries and corporations alone have no effect" and I'm not sure if you're saying that's a good thing or a bad thing

People must play on different settings to me, I found it really weak as was with so few tiles being breathtaking - honestly I thought it needed a bump not a nerf!

Thanks for posting! Is the upcoming fix also going to improve the AIs capacity/urge to improve luxuries?

Ehh, until population can more directly translate to science (or culture) like it did with Civ 5's libraries, it'll never really work. Civ 6 specialists are too weak and there's no proportional yield
