FfH2 Bug Thread

I hope this is the right place to post this question, but here goes:
I have been trying to play internet games with some friends but I seem to be unable to see their game or any game at all in the Gamespy lobby. I have BTS and FFH2 upgraded with the latest patches. I can see lobby games when I load up BTS no problem. Direct IP does not work either as we get the timed out error. I checked around the forums for some answers but what little I came up with was either unanswered, from 2009, and/or suggestions to use Hamachi. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue or is Hamachi still the only solution? Thank you for any aid.

FFH2 is rather wonky for me in multiplayer, as well. The only solution we have found is: if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

First, make sure every player has the same version of FFH installed.
Second, have everyone exit Civ and start again.
Third, have everyone reboot their computers, then try again.
Repeat "second" and/or "third" until it works

Usually the second option works for us, though sometimes it takes 2-3 tries. For the record, we have tried Hamachi on 2 different occasions and have had the same problem as going through Gamespy, so we just stick with the "beat your head against the brick wall until it cracks" method, described above. 5-10 minutes of beating is about average for us, much more than 15 minutes of trying we give up and play BUG or something else.

Happy gaming!

You can't play FFH2 multiplayer. Sooner or later you get massive OOS problems, making it impossible to continue. Sadly enough we don't play FFH2 any more.

I've got a couple of little bugs I found.

First, there's a CtD when trying to play the scenario "The Black Tower" - note this is after completing Barbarian Assault, which says it lowers the barbarian amounts on other scenarios.

And second, when you meet (most) victory conditions, you have to wait until the next turn for it to show up. If you have a unit with the Crazed promotion under your control, which can strike at an enemy unit on the next turn, it will go ahead and make the attack - thus causing the dialog announcing your victory not to show up.
This second I've found can be worked around by saving and reloading, although after reloading while the dialog and interface appear, the main view and all units etc on it, don't.

Hi,

When I'm playing the game keeps crashing as soon as I do the following from this save point.

Move, Press Enter, Start Revolution, Move

The game will crash every time, with no error.

Can someone look and see what is going wrong? All technologies go to 1-turn research right before the crash, so seems like something is going wrong around that time.

EDIT: Actually I tried different things but it still crashes at that second move.

Unfortunately, the Black Tower bug doesn't have a fix. Some peopel though get it to work by loading the scenario map directly, instead of using the scenario play screen. That is, go to the folder holding the scenario maps, and load it up.

Best wishes,

When you go into anarchy, it always says that techs cost 1 - it isn't a bug per se (well, it is probably wrong but it has done that since time immemorial).

I loaded your save. I don't get a crash, which is probably a good thing. I played 10 turns.

So let me know EXACTLY what you did. Did you explore Brandeline's Well?

In the meantime, I've attached a (what is for me ) a working game one turn later, after adopting agrarianism.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! It crashes when I am moving to the right and move to that hill right above the wheat.

When I moved down past the well, it did not crash.

EDIT: It seems to happen every time I enter that barbarian territory to the right of my archers.

I waited a bunch of turns and then entered, and now it seems fine. Very weird problem!

Well, it still doesn't crash for me when I try doing what you did. The only thing I can think of now is that one of us has some mod installed that is changing the result.

But I'm glad you have it working in any case!

Best wishes,

sounds like these crashes are memory allocation failures (MAFs). A friend of mine also got them when he tried to select a building. There are a couple threads on this forum that discuss the problem.

Breunor, why don't you play the whole game for me and give me the results? ;) :p

Just doing a quick search it says it could be due to RAM? My system is pretty high-end and I run Civ IV at max settings no problem.

Do you have 32bit or 64bit OS? It maybe also depends on the amount of Cache your CPU has or the RAM of your graphic card. Unfortunatly there isn't a universal answer.

FFH has way more content than vanilla CIV IV BTS has. Just compare the amount of units for example.

I didn't expect to get six well-trained and completely overpowered firemages when I used For the Horde  I hope it's a bug.

Sons of the inferno are not supposed to be able to be captured by any method, as I recall. However, they can be snagged by one of a number of methods. Seems you've found one of them, enjoy!

Sure you can, just revert to patch g. Works perfectly fine, it only got wonky after that.

Hi
I've run in to a small problem, playing as Clan of Embers on a huge Erebus. Avatar of Wrath has just entered the game and the game has stopped on the "waiting for other civilizations". It has't crashed but it's been over half an hour already. Is this normal? And should I just give it more time? My pc is quite high powered and doesn't have any issues (Touch wood) normally with playing FfH. Thanks for any advice, Melian

Two pages back on this same thread:

Although it does not happen every time, it is quite common for the appearance of the Avatar of Wrath to cause an endless turn or a crash. It can be very difficult to try to figure out exactly which unit(s) are responsible, so if that does happen the best thing you can do (imo) is reload from a save from several turns before and replay in the hope that you will get a better result (ie not a crash or endless turn).
