Final Fantasy Mod Progress Updates, Part II

Okay, then I'll MAKE a metal warmachine. If you have a problem with it, then tough! This mod isn't going to be 100% accurate (especially with stuff that even using the dodgy physics of the FF universe wouldn't stand a snoball's chance in Hell of working).

As for the Jeuno and Bastokers, I was just going by the strategy guide, since as I said before I don't have internet on either of the two computers that are good enough to run the game. That is the result of using wireless internet.... I can't figure out how to route it so that I can access the Wireless WAN device via my LAN. I'll just change that later on, no biggie. And you know what, I almost added the extra "I" to the Selbinans myself, but I didn't want you to get mad a me for messing it up

And as I'VE said before, look at a map of Port WIndhurst, either the official strategy guide one or the one they have on alakazham.com, and check area K, 15. If you have the strategy guide, there is a screenshot of Port Windhurst on Page 240, where you can see a line of boats, the breakwater, and further out is the lighthouse... And Yes, you're right about the Bastok Metalworks... I was going off memory when I added it... Speaking of which, since the odds of having BOTH coal AND iron in the city's radius are between slim and none, I'm going to make it like the Great FOrge in the Warhammer fantasy mod, and only require Iron in the city radius, and have it come with Steam Power (the Metalworks, that is, not the iron).

Well, If I ever heard of the friggin' ministries, I might use them... In all my research of all the games from III - X, I never even heard that mentioned once.... In that case, Dr. Gast's lab would make a good replacement for the Theory of Evolution (i.e. you gain two free techs, since it was Dr. Gast's research that Hojo based the entire SOLDIER program and other weapons research off of).

I like FF7 but its not one of my favorite games(its way overated, popular only because it was 3-d), FF4, FF6 and FF9 are my favorites...:)

Okay Falnax... I was just thinking about something.... You're right that most players don't seem to know about the Lighthouse in Windhurst. You see, I originally wanted to replace the Collossus with Neptune's Spire, but I could never find any pictures to work off of... On the other hand, there were a couple of screenshots of the Windhurst Lighthouse.

ALso, another thing that's been kind of bugging me.... Do you think the Temple of Artemis graphics will work for the Temple of the Goddess (from Jeuno) or should I replace them?

And about the red orcish warmachine, the pic is on Page 354 of the Brady Games Official F XI strategy guide (spring 2004 edition).... It could just as well be a Firebelcher or Flamethrower (variants of the orcish warmachine listed in the strat guide)

Im gone for 1 day and there is a novel of posts to read...jeez...

Hikaro, Im about to start playing FF7...not to help you, I just wanted to play...

so if you need any info from the game, let me know, so I can look out for it...
cant get screen shots tho, cause Im digging out the playstation

as far as the buildings go...Hikaro, did I make them for you to begin with?...

I still don't see why we can't make it Delkfutt's Tower...it's pretty much exactly the same thing as the lighthouse except everyone's heard of it...

Anyway, that's just an Orcish Warmachine that someone's casting Fire on...although what I meant by "GM Orcish Warmachine" is that GMs are people S-E hires to maintain FFXI and prevent players from screwing it up too much...they don't work, though. Most GMs are required to wear this armor, which is red, somewhat silly looking, and metal, hence the reference:

Spacer: Yes, you made the buildings for me, and most of them have been implemented already (I still need to set up the stuff for the Wind Turbines)....

Falnax: The reason for not making Delfutt's tower the replacement for the Collossus is that I REALLY don't think that a crumbling tower that's crawling with fiends and beastmen would increase trade by any stretch of the imagination... If I were to add Delfutt's tower, and keep it close to what the game is, I'd have to make it DECREASE the trade in all city tiles (because of the orcs and fiends chasing all the merchants away).....

Neptune's Spire on the other hand, is a symbol of Jeuno's prosperity, and a major tourist attraction (not to mention it's also where the Tenshodo martial artists are based), so it would make more sense to replace the Collossus, don't you think? If you send some pics, I could whip up the graphics in no time. Also, you never did answer me about the Temple of the Goddess....

Quinzy: I'm liking your line of thinking there. :D

so will you do it then? :mischief:
im only joking, i know your taking a break from unit making. but maybe in the future... :D

This probably comes as a disappointment to you, but here's the Neptune's Spire:
http://img332.imageshack.us/img332/5075/sspire6kx.png

About the Cathedral of the Goddess, the closest thing in Civ 3 is probably J.S. Bach's Cathedral:
http://img332.imageshack.us/img332/2320/cathedral3hd.png

Anyway, the point about Delkfutt's Tower is not what it is now, but what it probably once was. After all, FFXI is set in the Middle Ages, where it may have gone obsolete (I do realize it doesn't go obsolete until the Modern Ages, but FFXI and Civ III probably develop differently.).

By the way, is there credits in a mod? Because I uncovered a piece of music a few days ago that would be great for credits...

Yeah.... after seeing that pic of Neptune's "Spire", I aggree.... I'll just change it to Delkfutt's tower... Although I'd say that the tech level of Vana'diel is more along the lines of late-Rennaisance or early Industrial, especially Bastok... I could see Karst's Science advisor saying, "Mr. President, we've discovered the secrets of Steam Power, what should our alchemists research next?"

Uhmmm.... I think that the game credits are hard-coded, but I will put everyone's credits in the Scenario description, or at least in the scenario readme.txt... BTW, check the city list of San d'Oria ;)

Oh, and are you SURE that's a picture of the Temple of the Goddess in Jeuno, and not a pic of the Grand Cathedral in San d'Oria? I just want to confirm before changing the graphics (If it is the Temple of the Goddess, then I'll just use the graphics from JS Bach's cathedral, since I replaced that with Aeris' Church).

Oh, and about what we were talking about earlier.... Here's a pic of a few different Ork Gargants... as you can see, they look roughly like the warmachine, only bigger, more heavily armed, and with treads or legs for mobility... I was thinking of using the same basic Warmachine shape, only adding, as an Orc would say, "More Dakka," and a set of tank treads.....

Hikaro, you do realise what that "big gun" looks like... Ya might wanna skip that one, Reverend :)

HEY! Who said I was gonna put the big shootas THERE?!?!? I was going to put Big shootas in the arms, and have big ripper clawz arount the ends of the barrels (so that if the enemy got too close, they could retract the gun barrels and just start tearing away), as well as a big-shoota/burna combo in the mouth......

I like the Orcish Gargants, but I think it would look better if you used that brassy brownish color instead of red, that way it would look recognizable from a distance...

You're right, saying the Middle Ages was a bit of an oversight; Bastok is clearly in the Industrial Age. The other civilizations appear to be in the Middle Ages, I always thought of it in Civ terms as Bastok never took any of the techs not required for Age advancement, seeing as they don't have the rich culture the others have...

Silly me, I never noticed that little Easter Egg...I guess I was too busy looking at things as a whole and forgot about the details...

But, yes, that is the Cathedral of the Goddess in Jeuno. Here's the one in San d'Oria:

Even if the credits are hard coded, I recall the music being alterable just like every other music in the game. Even if it's the same credits, it might be a fun easter egg if the credits music was Pray, by Risa Okhi, which is based off of the credits music from every Final Fantasy game:

http://www.ihud.com/file.php?file=150106/1137363693/10-Pray.mp3

The lyrics don't make much sense, but they're in Japanese so it's not that big of an issue. Here's an English transcript, though...

From far and silent starry skies
Echoes a song full of life
Crossing a darkness of thousands of light years
It finally arrives at a single earth

With eyes closed just so
Like a faraway prayer

So that one day
Our dreams will come true

Time is so long
These tiny palms can barely hold it
At the end of a million-mile voyage
We can still run across smiling faces

Now, wet with tears
As though deep in prayer

So that one day
Sadness, too, will end

From far and silent starry skies
A song full of life can be heard

Another question about the music is which version of the Prelude is going to be used...if it's from FFI-VI, it'll sound inconsistent with the sound of the rest of the game, and I don't recall VII or IX even having the Prelude...plus VIII's is buried deep inside a 13 minute long medley, and X's is a crazy disco remix...

Even though San d'Oria and Alfitaria are both Neutral, they should probably both have a special flavor that make them hate the Orcs and vice versa, seeing as both of those civilizations combat the Orcs in their respective games...

Okay, I'll see if I can find where the credits music goes.....

ANd I was planning on a kind of rusty metal texture for the warmachine/gargant.... Once I start the model, that is. Too busy playing the Warhammer Fantasy mod right now :D

Also will change the graphics for the temple of the goddess, and set Alfitira and San d'Oria to good flavor....

As for the Prelude, I'm using the one from IX (which sounds the same as the one from VII) and was only played during the credits if you lost...

The credits music goes as "Credits Music mix" in, of all places...Civ3PTW/sounds...also, the credits can be altered. There's a .txt file titled "Credits" that can be altered to your heart's delight.

I asked about the Prelude because I've got a nifty version of that from the same CD...it's the original Prelude with ambient vocals. It might be a good choice because it's a bit longer than the FFIX Prelude, it's a tad more optimistic, and it's much more recognizable as the Prelude:

http://www.ihud.com/file.php?file=160106/1137384421/01-Prelude.mp3

So maybe I'm obsessed with Risa Ohki...what can I say? She's fluent in Japanese, English, French, and Portuguese...

On to the subject of the FFI civilizations, the Light Warriors should probably be called the Crystal Warriors, seeing as that's the correct name, Light Warriors was merely a mistranslation - it's probably best to maintain some semblance of a reference to the original game...perhaps the leaderhead could even be 8-bit, seeing as it would be a funny joke, and very easy to make...perhaps it should lift up its arms for a happy animation and take out a dagger for its angry animation...

Also, could you spell out all of the unique units and which units they replace? Sorry to make you go through so much work, but I need them for the civilopedia articles, and it takes quite a bit of deduction to decipher it from the game file...

Also a nice addition would be the "FF Victory Song" every time an unit wins experience. :)

I worked on a spinning Moogle animation for the credits sequence. The background is just plain black, but the Moogle should hold the audience's attention, so a fancy background might prove unneccesary...the only problem is I can't figure out how to convert it so it's compatible with Civ III...I got the idea for it when I was watching the credits and at the end it said YUMBO!, so in this mod it should instead say KUPO!

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4961/image12zx.gif

EDIT: I feel stupid...it's impossible to make animated PCX files...I tried making a replacement, "The Many Moods of Mog", but it turned out gayer than expected...

I like Pillullis's idea...*attaches perfect sound file for it*

I've been thinking about how you would do the Monster Civ Hikaro.

In FF5, the main Villain, X-Death, wanted to build a world populated by monsters only. Since you brought back some of the villains like Rufus and evil Edea, why not him?

Make him at war with everyone else, except maybe that Orcish Civ. And maybe some of the other evil civs, Shinra Inc. might ally with him.

I'd help with monster units if you decide to.
