Finalizing v1.11

Has anyone managed to complete the first Colombian goal on normal?

For some reason the original Colombian settler founds city Santo Tomas, and not Bogota. To add insult to injury that city is size 2, wheras all the new found cities from same era start as size 4!

Do you think I just invent things? :cooool:

No, but you can be wrong. The war between Argentina and Brazil ocurred betwen 1825 and 1828, Brazil independence was declared on 1822 and Argentina declared its independence in 1816, so there was no antecedent from 25 years before. Apart from that, the war was fought in what today is Uruguay, the provinces of Misiones and Rio Grande do Sul and the Rio de la Plata. No side of the war atacked "the core" of the other

You might want to read a bit more about Argentinian history...

I'm Argentinian, I think I know something abut my own history

The CNM shows Bogotá for that tile, and Santo Tomas cannot be found in the whole file. Do you have a save with the settler on that spot?

I have seen Santo Tomas as Colombia's capital as well several times instead of Bogota.

Derp, Santo Tomas is the first city name from their standard city list. The reason was that their language didn't change from Mayan to Spanish on respawn, should be fixed with the next commit.

I have also seen it, just that it was not founded by Colombia, it was pre-existent

Is there any intentional reason why Colombia discovers Mexico (on turn 2 in my case) with a big red WAR written next to her name? Whereas it starts at peace with Spain.

I was also wondering, is there any American Civil War mechanics in this mod?

No idea what triggered the war with Mexico.

I don't know American Civil War.

The American Civil War lasted like two turns on Normal speed. The CSA are duly represented as a dynamic name for America — funnily enough, with Abe Lincoln still running the house before FDR takes over. Perhaps a semi-random »Abolition of Slavery« event could be implemented in some fashion; but I wouldn't like New Orleans to flip to Mexico or the Independents for the sake of a pitiful puppet-show (Barbarian cavalry unit named Robert E. Lee pillages hill tile near Washington, dies to my Infantry the next turn, The End).

Edit: Actually, the abolition of slavery should mean a big deal to every slave-driving civ, not only America.

Leoreth thought that you were referring to a modcomp of some sort I think, whereas I think you were actually just asking whether there was anything scripted into the game to represent a civil war event during the 1800s for America.

Sorry Leoreth to bother you, but umm, have you already decided what will be the diplomusic for the new Civs?

You're right. There's nothing in particular to represent the ACW. It's not that important really.

Nope.

In game turns it lasts 1-2 turns (by the way, why 1 turn represented with 3 years in 1800s? I thought it has to be 2), and indeed not important from that perspective. But for USA it is very important: more Americans (from both sides including civilians) died during that war than during any war with America since 1775:eek:. Actually in all the other wars (including WW2) there were almost as many American deaths as during Civil War alone. It was also first "modern" war in the history of this planet in terms of arms used.

Imagine you play as Americans and at some point 35% of your cities and half of your units declare independence and war. True, now we know that war lasted "only" 4 years, but so did WW1. When the war began, many key questions were still unanswered. What if the slave states of Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, and Delaware had joined the Confederacy? What if Britain or France had come to the aid of the South? What if a few decisive early Confederate victories had turned Northern public opinion against the war? After the Revolution Civil War is the second most important event in USA's history, and as such deserves representation in some form. Perhaps as UHV (maintain X points of stability in 1865), or as scripted rebellion, or some stability hits south from Dixon-Mason lines encouraging rebellions there.

Sure it's important for American history. Just not that important overall.

I feel like the American Civil War wouldn't work for DoC's scope. Much like having a new China for every dynasty and representing its many civil wars and rebellions wouldn't work. It would be more approppriate for some kind of Rhye's and Fall of the United States or Rhye's and Fall of North-America or something.

Dunno Leoreth about this, but as I said before, best way to approach diplomusic would be with instrumental versions of the national anthems. Other option would be to use martial marching music (I don't know if that's how its called on English, sorry) which sounds really cool, but due to all the military coup d'etat that have occurred said music has lost affinity amongst the general population.

American Civil War at best should be a Random Event, it'd be kind of hard to represent effectively in-game. I mean, there aren't even that many Southern cities.

Good instrumental versions are not easy to come by, however. I'll look what the database has to offer.

Release is going to happen tomorrow if nothing gets in the way.
