Firaxis: Patch coming next week

I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a keyboard and write your own dam patch. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

I've just read through this entire thread.

Do I win something?

For the record, I've logged about 30 hours on Civ4 so far, and other than occasional skipping of the Wonder toons, haven't experienced any serious issues. I have installed it on 2 different systems, one with the ATI 9800XT, the other with the ATI 9600.

There have been a couple of instances of the game minimizing itself to the desktop, but these have all coincided with another application starting up.
 
Hi Guys,

I have an Athon XP 2500+, 512 RAM, GeForce 4 MX 64 MB. The graphics seem to be OK at first, but the explored terrain will be black out again soon as my units move out of it. Basically, I can only see my land and the quares surrounding my units. Is that the behavior of Civ 4, or it is another big bug?

Before I go any further, no, I haven't read all the posts in this thread! :p I seem to have a problem where after a few hours in the game (and this is fater tweaking graphic settings, restarting on smaller maps, bigger maps, more AI opponents, fewer AI opponents) the game begins to slow down dramatically to a near crawl..

Windows XP HE
2.66 ghz processor
512 RAM
256 RAM GeForce 5200 (I think) video card
200 gig HD (not anywhere near full)
run virus scan, spyware scan, defrag on a regular basis

Not really complaining mind you, from what I've seen the game is sweet regardless (could use more civics then just what was provided, but thats only opinion), I just thought I'd toss my two cents in ;) Thanks for listening. :)
 
hey i was just reading through and wondering... this patch everyones waiting on... is it gunna "fix" the movies or is it gunna fix the cheshire cat black screen or is it gunna fix sumthing else??
 
When is the patch actually coming out?i read yesterday that it was supost to come last night,this game is so buged that it creeps me out,i cant play it cause the sound disepears in the intro movie,and then its just gone...and,when i go back to the deskopt i cant even play winamp and i have to restart the machine to get the sound back,but i tried to play tje game without sound,then after 30 min it freezes:mad:

Its just lying here,looking at me:P i want to play it!! some minor bugs i can live with,but the worst?its been out a while now,they should at least give out a patch for some of the bugs,so its playable..

Its kinda frustraiting,and i know theres a lot of people with worse problems but god dam it...:mad: :mad:

I would have to agree with the Mods on this one...too many patch threads.....
 
Aye, I feel your pain, as I seem to be in a similar situation.

How well this patch runs will be THE decider for whether or not I'll take up this game on a long-tem basis, or simply send it back and stick with World of Warcraft.
 
i know...but in these patch threads there is no one actually Ansering the quiestion...im just wondering..:) so i just want an awnser
 
i agree...i want to take it back,but ive had it for one day now and the probably think ive burnd it or something,so i dont think theyll take it back..and ive heard well have to wait untill the end of the month with the patch also..and i think that sux..we bye a game,it doesnt work.its plain stupid...and btw WoW rox=)
 
I wrote 2k games and they were only aware of ATI graphics problems and not aware of any other problems ..so in other words write to Firaxis games support services and send a Dxdiag with a brief description of what is wrong with your game. Like one poster stated this is not a Civ4 tech site but everyone helps out each other quite nicely.
 
Nobody knows yet. My guess is there will be a first patch tomorrow, but that one won't fix all issues. (I hope nobody expects that in this current day and age) But hopefully it will at least allow more people to play, even if still with some problems. (note that most people can already play the game without or with few problems) We'll probably see another one before X-mas.

But its just guessing ;)
 
Yes there was an answer. End of November!

Well sir, I have a gig and a half installed and I can't play on a map larger than standard without the system crawling down a rathole. Do I care? You bet I do? Do I let that stop me from playing? H E (double toothpicks) NO!

Yea, I can see where you guys are bummed. It's gotta be some compatibility thing, I've played a LAN game for hours on my two machines at home and we had a grand total of 1 issue, a CTD and the autosave was just a turn earlier.
So I'd say I've played

Multiplayer: 6 hours, one CDT.
Single Player: 50 hours, with 1 CDT while zooming.
