I just do not understand all this whinning. The game works fine.

Why are all these auto shops around? My car works fine.

It is a good game. There are a few thing which need tweaking, but that is is.

Some people can't evaluate the game because it doesn't run.

Let me help all of you for whom the game is running well - we bought the game to run on OUR computer, not yours. Whether or not it works for you isn't going to impact whether it works for US. Comprende? The fact that Firaxis has ACKNOWLEDGED these problems counters the ill-considered puerile commentary from the "works fine" crowd.

Ok you are having no prolem with the game. Good for you. You are lucky. But please don't belittle us for having problems and being a upset about it. Some of us are really upset including myself (can you tell). But making comments like that when you know there are people in this thread that are just exploading is just like throwing gas on a fire. "that ain't no fire, jr jr, go grab that five gallon jerry can of gas and bring it here..... Now thats a fire..".
I am very upset about this game and its mem leaks and graphic problems. Mostly because I am such a sid fan. And truthfully I expected more from him. While that game play that I have seen is just great. I love what I have been able to play. But that in itself makes it worse. I would rather to not be able to play the game at all. This is just teasing.
All I want is a patch. All I want is to be able to play a game, with out slow downs and ctd a nd graphic issues.
Its like buying the car of your dreams, only to find it has no gas tank, so you can not drive it. Its just sitting there in the driveway.

age of empire 3 has some bugs here and there, but at least is is not released at beta quality. Civ4 must be the most buggy game I have tried in recent history.

Have you ever tried the Starwar:Knights of the old republic? That piece educated me another great lesson on "how good it feels to see all the bugs killed by about 4 patches in about half an year" or "the joy of trying to be a programmer no matter you majored in college" or "patience training by insisting on a game even if you can only run the first hour of it before the bugs act"...

Enjoy:p

Yesss, of course : some petty & nasty people will always use forums to start fires or throw fuel on existing ones. Nothing new here : get over it, even if you are right.

I have experienced no problem whatsoever running Civ IV for the past two weeks. Considering that many gamers who possess equivalent (or better) systems than mine have reported being unable to run the game in a decent manner (if at all), I have concluded that my very positive experience was mostly due to a mysterious "luck". Period.

Just cuz you don't have problems, there are A LOT OF people who has problems.

Especially when you like playing huge epic maps.

53,000 views since Nov 4th is the key. This thread has almost caught up to the sticky's at the top.:crazyeye:

Does this mean that I (as someone who has no problem running the game even on rather minimal specs) should *not* view a thread which might contain patch information, because by simply viewing it I will be counted as "pissed off"? ;) I hope not, because even as a satisfied customer, I certainly am interested in patches.

I dont have any major issues except having to underclock my vid card to play, or the occasional crash mostly on the larger maps. So maybe we get a patch this week?

My aim was to show how many people are wanting to hear news of the patch. The only thread this one hasnt conquered in only a weeks time is the info center. But we caught up to 1/4 of the way. :goodjob:

You don't understand? Perhaps you should try reading the posts. Apparently, the game does NOT work fine for other people. For example, my Pentium 4 2.4 mHz 1gig machine with an NVidia Ge4 Ti 4200 does not work fine. I can only play with the graphics set to low, and that still yields lag, occasional crashes, choppy movies, etc.

Now, back on topic. Has anyone else noticed that with graphics set to low, helicopters are invisible when they are not the selected unit? Very annoying. I understand the animation is frozen, but couldn't they have picked a better cell than that one?

Boy, that just absolutely puzzles me.
I'm running on a 1.7Ghz (which is probably what you meant) Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM and a 64MB Nvidia card.
I cleaned my registry, defragged, and updated my drivers. The game went from running choppy to running pretty good on medium resolution. It actually seems to run even better if I zoom in a bit more. The main setting I turned off is zoom in during battle..

Back on topic, I personally expect the patch to come out tomorrow. Most of the time patches are released on a monday so they have all week to fix serious problems if they arise from a bug in the patch. If we don't get it tomorrow expect to wait another week.

I'm not sure, but are you thinking the patch is going to fix this?

Its possible.

Monday now and still no patch. I am betting on Wednesday someone will 'catch news' the patch is scheduled for 'next week' for the 3rd time. :p

:bump:

I have agree with a lot of people here that it is frustrating to go out and buy a game that you've been waiting for, and then when you finally install it on you computer to realize it doesn't work.

I have great computer with an AMD +4000 64bit Dual processor, 2GB of DDR400 Ram and the ATI Sapphire X850 Platinum and the game crashes with me as well. Even thought I don't really have the "black screens" and "choppy" video in the game it seems that at a certain time in the game it just "croaks" on me. I have played all of the map sizes and the only thing I can say is that the smaller the map the longer it takes my game to crash, playing a huge map makes my game crash after about 20 turns.

I hope that Firaxis comes out with a solution for this seemingly huge problem most of us are having. I have played all versions of Civilization :) .

after hours of frustration and anger, i finially got this working, sorta. had to uninstall my ATI drivers, which is a pain, and installed Omega 4.12 drivers. now i can finally at least play. After a while I start getting graphical artifacts showing up in movies, diplomacy, and map. I have the occasional game freeze, seems to happen when things get modern. So i have to save a lot, and when things start to go wierd, I quite and restart. seems to help some.

frustrating beyond belief. im enjoying it, but its bitter sweet. everytime i boot it up, i think "is it going to work this time?". I expect it to fail at some point. i expect it not to work. pretty dumb.

the music is awsome though.
